Ok, so Chuck (also known as mr. Ecksthrey) is somewhat crazy. Icequeen
is a gay nimphomaniac male (first time I see THAT) who I think might
be the alter ego of Jon Parmet (he=B4s awful quiet of late). Dan
McCormack is out eating in the fields of grass. Lonewolf is frustrated
cuz he=B4s still a virgin. Chris Ptacek isn=B4t reading this because he
went home to practice and hasn=B4t gotten out or showered in a few
months. Itchy and Lisa are... busy. Skadz still wants you believe he=B4s

Mosh, he=B4s probably listening to Diana Ross and crying right now.
Ah, the Ytsejam. One big dysfunctional family :)

Oh yeah, Itchy never answered my Marill10n question. What=B4s Radiat10n

~Killmary is happy right now... don=B4t ask why.

    ***********SOME SPOILERS*************SOME SPOILERS***************SOME
    SPOILERS*****************

Weeeeelllllll....... Partha Mukhopadhyay and I saw Mr. Joe Satriani at
    Detroit's State Theater last night.
We were seated towards the front of the balcony, but actually had a
    surprisingly good view.

Y'know, it's funny how things work out. I was all pissed about my
friend dicking me over on the concert, and I end up going with Partha,
whom I'd much rather go with anyway since he's a fellow progger (who
actually appreciates good music) and all (and a really nice guy, BTW).

Anyways, here's the skinny (I'll keep this fairly brief): Satriani
played approximately a three hour set, with a 15 minute intermission.

Stu Hamm: I don't think much needs to be said about him. You guys all
know him........ he rocks. His solo is fantastic BTW. My only gripe:
We couldn't hear the guy most of the time. Fortunately they seemed to
turn him up for the last half dozen songs or so.

Jeff Campitelli: Yes, I realize he's no Zonder or Portnoy. But I do
think he's very "competent" (Partha's description.... which I agree
with), and fits Joe's music well. I think the comment somebody made
about Satch just using a drum machine instead was silly.

Joe Satriani: Well, once again I don't think I need to say too much,
the guy kicked everyone's asses last night. Gripe: At certain points,
Joe guitar was mixed WAY too loud, although he was reasonable on other
    points.

    Highlights:

"Friends", "Summer Song", "Cool #9", "Satch Boogie", "Tears in the
Rain", "Always With Me, Always With You", "Rubina" (the one from Not of
this Earth..... not the one from Extremist), "Ice Nine" (I THINK he
played this one....), also, I forget the name but he played that one
cool blues song from the s/t disc where Joe sings with that distorted
old style blues vocals. He either played "Luminous Flesh Giants", or
"S.M.F." (I get those two's names confused). I think he also played
"Surfing With the Alien", "Circles", "Flying in a Blue Dream", and "I
Believe" (not sure though). There's a bunch of others that I'm not sure
the name of (I'm kinda bad with names when it comes to instrumentals,
not to mention I'm missing a few of his discs, so.......)

    More highlights:

    TWO encores!
    Stu's bass solo.
During the first encore, Joe did a crowd interaction thing where he'd
play a simple lick, then the crowd would repeat it. We exchanged about
six times or so...... then he just played some incredibly fast,
complicated, long thing that nobody could possibly follow. :)

When they came back from the intermission, they played a brief acoustic
mini-set (15-20 minutes perhaps) which was really great, and definitely
    one of the high points.

    THE VERDICT:
Overall, a really good, enjoyable concert! Hell, how could you go wrong
    with THREE hours of Joe?

Partha's verdict: Well, you guys are gonna have to wait for Partha's
words on this one...... but....... I'm willing to bet that he just may
be picking up some more Satch albums in the near future. ;-)

    Enough for now,

I noticed something odd. Now that I'm totally into APSoG, the song doesn't even seem long to me anymore! I mean, I listen to this piece of brilliance - and it seems like it's over in 5 minutes! I'm like "wow... it's done already?" I have the same experience with ACoS..... it kicks so much ass it actually seems too short! No, it's a different keyboards, Igor Khoroshyev (sp?), but he has no trouble covering Wakeman's parts. Quite excellent.

Well 2112 easily, but for me, more recently such a description would fit album's like Marillion's "Brave" and Royal Hunt's "Paradox." and Shadow Gallery's "Tyranny." Also "Mindcrime", and the two original beasts, "Yes: Tales from the Topographic Oceans" and "Genesis: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway". All of these songs/albums put me in another state of mind completely.

    Ain't music grand? Andrew

LOL! Trying to get a serious question past anyone on here is like Pee Wee Herman anal raping Jambi with a cattle prod.

A real answer: My friend just bought a ProGen P2-233 notebook that's all suped up (for a notebook) for around $1700. I read in the Computer Shopper that Notebook prices are expected to keep dropping during the holiday season, so unless it's a dire necessity I wouldn't jump into one just yet as you might save yourself a few $$$ by waiting. :) It's not a bad notebook either. I dunno about used, tho. I rarely trust anyone to buy used stuff.

Hey, I don't know all the answers, so I make most of them up. :P -- KorgX3 says today's secret word is "Ptacek." If someone says the secret word today you have to scream real loud, OK?

Yeah, I noticed that too! Well, there has been mention before of Raven wearing a "Dead Winter DEad" Savatage T-shirt...and several people have been spotted waving "Portnoy Rules" or the Majesty symbol in the crowd... That was probably me. :) Glad I got at least one convert. Let me know if you ever want to trade. Bootlegging is in the grey area of legality/morality in the first place, but selling boots (a "bootscalper") is definitely across that line. Making pure monetary profit off of someone else's work.

As for the Rotterdam Fan Club gig. One of the old-timers on the Jam (can't remember who) said when Ryan Whitaker first announced he'd be selling this boot, "I remember when things like this would have been tree'd..." And that YtseGeezer was 100% right. A "tape tree," for those who don't know, is just a bunch of people getting organized (with the traders diagrammed into a "tree" type of form) and trading a single show. It's an _excellent_ way to spread shows that SHOULD be spread, like the Fan Club show (and the Rudess Dream Theater show, which Scarred will also be scalping soon). The Tree method is cheap, further builds a community of people interested in the same type of music, and allows people who ordinarily wouldn't hear this kind of thing to do so because you don't have to have anything to trade in the first place to be on the tree.

Scarred, on the other hand, will, by current pricing, sell the 2CD set for about $40 including (worthless) artwork on the liner and on the CD, which I (and many other experienced traders I have talked to) think is simply ludicrous - especially for a FAN CLUB gig that all fans should have access to. I've talked with Ryan before and he seemed like a really nice guy, but something I saw on his webpage prompted me to single Scarred Records (NOT Ryan himself) out at the Ytsescalper of the Month. They've always had excellent service/delivery times from what I've heard, but apparently they've been having some problems in this area recently. Understandable, but this is the first thing to appear when you load up Scarred Record's web page:

"Don't email me intending for me to reply unless you have a serious emergency... Your order is in safe hands... over a thousand customers (??) can testify... There's been some delay recently, but that doesn't mean you won't get your discs."

This sounds frighteningly like the start of another Ytsehack (ex)bootlegger who will remain nameless. I 'spose we'll do what we've always done with this kind of thing. Get a good group of traders together (20-25), buy one copy of this and CD-R it for everyone. We'd only do this if Scarred's sound quality was far above other sources, which I highly doubt. Both the Fan Club show and the Rudess show are already fairly easily available (both are on CD boots already with excellent quality).

This is NOT meant as a flame against Ryan himself, as he's proven himself to be a good guy, but against his business. I think it's very important to recognize the difference... It just bothers me. Selling boots is detestable enough, but getting the Prism Syndrome is totally unacceptable and should be dealt with as such. I hope Scarred doesn't come to that.

    Take care all...
