Well, when I moved about a year ago, I just dropped Neil Elliot an e-mail
notifying him of the change. He also emailed me back confirming that he got
it, and I have no had any problems since. The e-mail addy is:

Hope this helps! Oh, and yeah, the new Opeth is GREAT. Thanks to Mr. Brito,
I have really learned to love these dudes.... I have MAYH on tape, Morningrise
on CD, and I still need to check out Orchid. Very kewl stuph!

In a message dated 98-11-13 07:52:42 EST, you write:

<< The instrumental parts are awesome, but I really miss James' clear excellent studio singing from Images and Words and A Change of Seasons. I guess he's just a studio singer. The thing is: I really don't remember his singing being bad when I saw them live. What pisses me off the most is how he ruined some of my favorite songs such as Scarred and Take the Time. James completely sucks in these songs. >> GOOD LORD!! Bitch, piss and moan! I'm not sure if you've ever listened to a live album before, but the production and the performance (usually) aren't as technically perfect as a studio album. If they were, there would be no reason to blow tens of thousands of dollars to record in a studio for months, instead of recording a whole album- or in this case, a double album, in one night. As for James sucking: The singer's job is the hardest on the road because they have to take care of their voice. When making an album, there's a lot more "down time" to take care of your voice. But on the road, when your singing 2-3 hours for 5-6 days a week, in sometimes poor conditions (cold weather, cig smoke, lack of rest) it's much harder to sing well consistently. Now I think James did an excellent job, and as for his particular style of pronounciation, that's what makes him James La Brie. Take it or leave it. If you're gonna bitch about pronounciation, listen to some fucking rap music, there's much more shit to rip on there. Anyways, when DT decides to record another live album, give them a call so that you can sing the songs for them "correctly". JK

There are 2 ways I can think of off of the top of my head.

    1. Email Neil (images_and_words@compuserve.com) with your old and new address. This way he can make the changes on the DTIFC database.

    2. When you send your *new* subscription to me, make sure to let me know that this is a new address. This way I can make sure that Neil is looking out for it.

Alright... well as I see it, yes James is not at his best on OiaLT, and he has sounded better in other live recordings, however, as everyone has said he is a VOCALIST. A sore muscle after playing all night will probly heal by morning or at least by the next day, a sore throat takes almost a week to heal. It's clear that James tries his best and after a long hard tour he's not going to sound very good. My personal bitch, and yes I do realize it's petty, is the way he adds "ah" in front of everything. "Ah Voices protecting meeee!" Personally I think it sounds really stupid... but hey I can live with it.

Is that the big guy with the Dallas Stars jersey on?

While we're on the subject....... could anybody give some of us ignorant folks something of a "watching guide" to the other artists who have "cameos" on 5YiaL? It would be much appreciated, since I personally don't recognize much of anybody.

Phil Carter wrote: > Yes, it does. Now I'd like to see a concept album based on the Dragonlance > chronicles. That would kick. The closest I've seen is Rhapsody's "Legendary > Tales" which uses the font the Dragonlance books do on their covers. :)

Phil man...... you're SICK. ;) That would kick so much ass....... It'd have to be at least a 2 CD set though, if they were going to cover the whole Chronicles trilogy. I'd probably buy this damn thing even if it was put out by Hanson. Well.... maybe not.

OK.... here's a hypothetical question for you Dragonlance/ progmetal fans: Who would YOU choose to do a Dragonlance concept album? Blind Guardian? Savatage? Dream Theater? Fates Warning? WHO? I'd have to give it some thought, but off the cuff my pick would be Savatage.

The only thing that would rule more than a Dragonlance concept album would be one based on some of Michael Moorcock's books. They would fit perfectly because most of Moorcock's work is almost like the "prog" of speculative science fiction/ fantasy - it's complicated, convoluted and deals with alot of ambiguous subjects. The Elric saga (even though it's more "straightforward" than the rest of his stuff), would make an absolutely unbelievable concept album, due to the melancholy mood of the stories (mixed with lots o' savage demonic action, too). Who could we have do this one though? I'd perhaps go with Fates Warning.

Oh, a quick P.S. Before anybody corrects me and tells me that Moorcock's stuff has already been done...... YES, I am familiar with Hawkwind. I want more though. :)

Here are some DT bootlegs I'd like to get rid of. All the prices listed are minimum prices. I will accept the best offer that I get. The definition of best offer is somewhat vague, for example if two people offer the same price for a CD, but one person is in USA and other person outside USA, I will more than likely award to the USA person. Also, if two people want the same disc and one of the people only wants one disc and the other wants more than one, I will probably award the disc to the person wanting more than one, even if they offer a couple of dollars less.

If making an offer, please respond in email to jkruger@ee.net Other responses may not be seen. When making an offer, please advise me of the following:

    1. the price you are offering. 2. the country of your shipping address. 3. whether you wish to be informed of higher offers. 4. your email address.

Winning bidders will be notified by 12/1/1998. Extremely generous bids from people that I know may be awarded prior to this deadline.

Anyone not liking my poorly defined and somewhat unusual rules is advised not to bid.

    CDs and Minimum Prices: ----------------------- Christmas CD 1996 - $25 Majesty Demos - $25 Instrumental Demos - $25 Instrumental II - $25 Instrumental III - No Sleep Since Brooklyn - $25 Subconscious - $25 Acoustic Dreams - $25 When Dream and Today Unite - $25 Antiquities - $25 Scenes From A Memory - $25 Precious Things (CDR *) - $25 The Darkest of Winters (CDR *) - $25 Majestic Harmonies - $25 The Dance of Eternity - (double) $40 A Kick Into A Dream - (double) $40 Wake Up - (double) $40 Uncovered (CDR copy) - (double) $40

    * - only released in CDR format (much to my surprise after receiving them without notice of that fact)

All non-CDR titles are original silvers with original packaging from the bootleg company. The Christmas CD is NOT a bootleg - it is a legitimate limited edition fan club CD.

Track Listings and Other Information available upon request. Flames will be ignored.

This is a tough one. I really don't know if a Dragon Lance album would be DT's sorta thing. I think any of these bands though, could probably do it very well, though I wouldn't rule out Angra as a choice either. It's good to see people open to the DL chronicles.. I believe I once heard someone say on another list "I'm surprised people who like Dragonlance can even understand Tolkien" this was while discussing Tolkien's novels of course. It seems that Tolkien is able to cross th bounds of fantasy and strike a chord with many people, while most still look at other fantasy series such as the Dragonlance saga as "cheesy." I would like to see The Wheel of Time done as a concept album as well.. that would rock.

Alright, so everyone and their mother (except Jason, at least since the last digest) has posted something about BG. Deal with it. My roommate has to :)

    >Is the band worth looking into, or would it really be a waste of my time? Worth it? Absofuckinglutely. Great stuff. Everything I would say would be an echo of what the others who've posted have said.. These guys have POWER in their music. And Nightfall *is* different from their other stuff. It was the one I started out with, and for that as well as other reasons I recommend it first for anyone else too :) Imaginations from the Other Side kicks total ass though - much more straight-ahead metal, and talk about an energy charge!!!

Somebody else said: >people have problems with Hansi's voice, but then again some people >go absolutely nuts about it. I'm in the latter category.

Put me there too. It's not "clean" like I usually like vocal styles, but he is amazing, notwithstanding. Or maybe because. Whatever. He totally blows me away on "the Eldar."

    >And yes, I could've sent this private, but why should Jason take >all the burden of advertising this awesome band ;) Absolutely! Sharing is caring!

To whoever posted about his 7 string, I think its pretty much just an Ibanez RG 7 string with his design on it. It has the same black and white design as one of his 6 strings, except the headstock and sides of the guitar body are white instead of black. The pickups are regular Dimarzio Blaze 7 strings NOT 7 string models of his pickups (Steves Special and Air Norton). The reason for this is because a 7 string pickup needs to be wound a different way to get all that low end from the low B in there. It even says on a Dimarzio catalog "John Petrucci: Air Norton, Steves Special, and Blaze 7 string."

Has anyone else noticed that the footage from Metropolis, is not entirely of one show, on the taped intro, when the cam is behind portnoy, hes waving his beer and then takes the camera himself and shows the crowd, then he returns the camera, and we get to see his EUROPEAN drum set, with the green paint on the edges, and we see white trim on black tank top, but instantly as if to intend its the same show they start playing the song where the whole band kicks in, we see mp's drums with the US purple paint on them, and no white trim on mp's shirt!!! But then the rest of the performance is the same :)

So I went to buy tickets to the Black Sabbath/Pantera concert in Minneapolis, MN last Saturday...three hours after tickets went on sale, and the whole floor and first level were already sold out. Suck.

Anyway, I was thinking..wouldn't it be cool if LTE went on tour, and in concert they just jammed out like they did on the last track of the album? Well yeah, they'd play the real songs too, but that kind of spontaneity would be a pretty cool experience in concert.

    Just a thought...
