I've created a no-frills* web page for t-shirt orders at
    http://www.crl.com/~vanyel/t-shirts.html

Quick recap: t-shirts will be $23 postpaid, longsleeves will be $28
postpaid, both are two-sided. The artwork is on the Superior official
site (maintained by Bernd, he da man) whose url I FORGET. (aack)
These are available in size XL only, but Bernd assures me this will
accomodate almost anyone except the really small or the reallly large
    (like, maybe me :)).

We'll probably handle these transAtlantic in batches of 10 or 20,
    depending on demand.

Well, i have heard 95% of Rush albums, and i don=B4t hear any double bass drumming on any album.......can somebody tell me on which songs Peart does a noticeable double bass drumming? plus, Peart=B4s forte is up there.....not down there....at least, that=B4s what he shows more often.

Hey, how's it goin'? First off, on the high notes anyway, I believe James ISN'T using his chest voice (what people talk in), OR his falsetto (what one generally uses to scream or jokingly imitate a girl). He's using his HEAD voice. The head voice, in short, is a kind of a "mix" between the chest voice and falsetto that allows a singer to go from their chest voice up into their falsetto range without cracking. Or in other words, it allows one to sing up in some or all of their falsetto range, using what SOUNDS like their chest voice. To some singers who don't know any better, it may even feel like their chest voice, but it is not (necesarily). Chest voice only goes so high (how high varies from person to person). There are DT songs that can be done in chest, but they won't have as much endurance. Some people, especially women, have a head voice naturally. But generally speaking, it can take years of development in a male voice. Some others who sing in head voice are Geoff Tate and Steve Perry. Second, if you're not sure how James hits his high notes, and/or don't want to listen to some person you don't even know ramble a bunch of voice crap (me), then let's ask him. Mention it in the next chat. Or maybe M. Portnoy, who reads the jam, could please mention to James that people are interested learning a bit about his singing technique. And finally, who cares? He may have his bad nights as has been mentioned, but all in all, I think he's got an amazing voice. When he hits those high notes, they're just so focused and powerful sounding...He can sing all those songs pretty damn well, so he must be doing something right. Rock on.

Well, to my knowledge, he uses his double bass in fills and breaks, rather than riding on them as continuous 16th notes. As far as songs goes, I can't remember any specific fills or beats, and I don't have any CDs with me for a few days. Anyone out there?

Jerry Bruckheimer (and the spirit of Don Simpson, R.I.P.) produced all three of those movies. He also worked on Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Bad Boys, and Crimson Tide.

For those of you who don't recognize the name, Bruckheimer makes movies for GUYS. And before Margaret Pluta gets on my ass for saying that, let me EXPLAIN. Jerry Bruckheimer's movies feature lots of vehicles - fast vehicles, vehicles of war, incredibly sweet cars which sometimes get destroyed, incredibly complex chase scenes, heavy vehicles such as garbage trucks, etc. His movies usually have bigtime smoking, bigtime guns, and gratuitous scenes filled with voluptuous women (if you've seen "Armageddon" you may remember the *extremely* useful and productive strip-club scene that sort of roared into the movie theater without warning and shocked every parent in attendance). His movies also feature loud, pulsating music, in genres such as guitar-driven metal, country jams, or mad crazy dope fly wicked diesel hip-hop. Oh, and everything explodes.

There's also one or two shots per movie where the sky is sepia-toned and everything looks surreal (yes, even in "Bad Boys" starring Will Smith this shot can be found). I think that's his personal stamp or something. SO, along with music by Trevor Rabin, it's a safe bet that "Enemy Of The State" will contain at least one dark-sky shot, a scene filled with voluptuous women that will shock all parents in attendance, some damn fast or damn heavy vehicles that wreck several miles of stuff, and some loudass guitar-driven music. Oh, and a few explosions.

Take Motley Crue. The Wall Of Marshalls was a Motley Crue trademark. I'm not sure if they still do it on stage, or how many of them are/were actually on, but there's no way in hell Mick Mars could be playing through that many cabs without some serious feedback. When Crue played on the MTV video awards... not that I, uh... not that I WATCH that channel or anything... um... but when they played the MTV video awards Arsenio Hall (the host) looked back at the stage as he was introducing them and said in amazement, "...lookit all those MARSHALLS!!"

Okay, I am responding to several jams at once, so I will not quite or use any of my maXimisms this time around...

    First order of business...

I'm curious to hear more from the progmetal scene than what I already know.

I've heard Ayreon and Angra mentioned several times here, and I'll also ckeck out Shadow Gallery and VAST (tho I'd like more info on VAST), and I know Eternity X, QR, Fates (and do Rush & Kansas count as progmetal? Nah...), but that's about it.

Can anyone give me some insight on what I ABSOLUTELY must hear (and not only faves...)? For instance, Fates APSOG is a must. But I don't think Savatage or King anything are all that great. But I know SOME stuff is.

I do not like Tool, for all you freaks that do to know...

Also I'm curious whether most people think Fates "got good" on No Exit, or Perfect Symmetry. Input?

Also, I have the APSOG video. I thought it was a live recording, with video over it, but is it really the studio version?

    Thanks in advance.

    Second order of business:

I can not get MP3 files right, so I'm screwed when it comes to the Ytsejam on kb. What can I do? There is a LOT of MP3 crap out there now, and I just get stupid writing...

    Thanx in advance again.

OK, I think the name 'Raise The Knife' sounds like a Majesty demo ...

Um, I think Darek's playing kicks ass, but I keep hearing $#!+ about him in the name of Kevin uhh... Moore. What gives?

And I thought we were through with the 12th note nonesense. But I keep seeing it. It's not funny anymore. I'm not using the pitch value system either. I'm going to sing a "Q splattered green". That's the note name, You figure it out. See? It's stupid!

Last thing. Somebody mentioned that they do not hear Rush on the radio very often. I live in So. CA, the most prog-hating area of the world, and I hear Rush all the time. But never anything new. But I hear them a lot.

Oh yeah (sorry), when I bought the 5YIALT video at Best Buy, I had to wait a few days for them to get ONE copy in. When I checked paid for it, the checker said they were selling a LOT of those. And they barely GET any in. They just sell very quickly.

Maybe DT would sell more if stupid stores would STOCK enough...

    My ramblings for the day.

    -maX VEHR-un

Now I will continue my list, adding the new one to the top...

Does anyone know where to find some mp3s of any of his recent projects, like perhaps Vital Tech Tones or something. I think that's the name I remember hearing. Wasn't there another name of a band that was real similar to that to that was recently discussed here? If so, can anyone help me out with an mp3 or two by that band?

He's the best "frontman" drummer I've ever seen. How 'bout what he did in the middle of his solo on 5yialt (I think that was the one) where he got out from behind the set and let the crowd play on one of the toms off the small set with the Majesty symbol on it? Or was that another show I have on tape? I can't remember. Anyway, I have to agree he's one of the most original drummers I've seen in a long time.

To me it still kinda sounds like his sound was cutting out. I didn't like his voice, well actually not his voice but his accent/diction when I first heard DT, but I've grown to love it. I do think that he tries a little too hard sometimes live though, but for the most part I think he kicks ass. He definitely should think of some diferent things to say in between songs besides "Come on!" :)
