Well then, you must know that his 2 Schon/Hammer albums have been re-released on a single disc? There's some really good songs on there, some not so good. The synth sounds from back then sound a little dated now. Schon is at his best when someone else writes the basic song, and he adds his tasty leads and shreds on top. Sometimes he isn't quite as good when he writes the whole song and sings (as he did on the Schon and Hammer recordings). But it works sometimes.

That was interesting to note though that he's never, to my recollection, used a double bass riff or steady riding pattern of double bass in any of their songs. He's only used it in fills as far as I know, and obviously in his solos. That reminds me, I think he is probably the best, or most creative soloist on drums that I've heard.

Hey Jim,
No, Steve Perry is not with Journey anymore. The have a new frontman now and his name is Steve Augerri. He has been in 2 previous bands, Tyketto and Tall Stories. I have the Tall Stories CD and I will say as a major fan of Perry's vox, this guys has the chops and at times is a dead ringer for him. I recommend the Tall Stories CD to anyone who is a fan of Journey.
Yes, Neal Schon is still with Journey, but alas however, Steve Smith is not. Steve has been replaced with Deen Castronovo who is drumming monster in his own right. It will be interesting to see what Deen adds. Journey is playing here in San Jose on January 8th and I will be asking Santa Claus for tickets and a baby sitter for that night.
I had a friend who saw the new line up for Journey and he said that Steve Augerri is a dead ringer vocally and that the show was good.
Just my $.04 cents (inflation dontcha know)

That part may be falsetto...but James does sing a high G on The Killing Hand on LatM. That was a few years ago and judging by James's latest performances I doubt he could still do it...but who really cares anyway? High vocals aren't that great if they don't sound good. Andre Matos sings a high A on Make Believe on Holy Land and that guy from Nitro sings double high D's or some crazy shit like that. Nobody will ever top that freak.

I hope you know that almost every single Ibanez guitar is bassword. All the RG's, all the JEM's except one, JS series, etc. I really doubt Ibanez would make all their guitars that way if basswood is really too soft to support a Floyd Rose. Maybe if you take your whammy bar and attach it to one of those paint-can shakers. You'd probably get some cool vibrato but I don't think that's what guitar companies had in mind when designing the Floyd Rose. As long as one takes good care of their guitar, they shouldn't have any problems with a Floyd Rose in a bassword guitar.

Really, This question again? Hmmm. Its not even a fair comparison. ALDER by a mile, bytheway. So, they, FW, may have been more 'metal' but fortunately there is more to life than being stuck in such a limiting genre as just to be called 'metal'. And I would hardly call Ray a 'Tate clone' either. Where as, being a huge QR fan, Alder is aging a tad bit more gracefully than mr. Tate, unfortunately. Similiar in vocal prowess and range, agreed. Not similiar in the vocal inflections and nuances that provide the foundation forr a 'style'. But don't get me wrong, Arch is still good, as is Dominici, but honestly, neither DT or FW would be where they are today without having 'moved on' in the vocal department and acquired singers who fit into the band as well as Ray and James do now. What a mouthful. Here cmes a thread...

I think its cause of the same reason JP doesnt use strictly 7 strings. In the AOL LTE chat a while back, someone asked that same question, and Petrucci said its because he thinks differently on the two different instruments.
