Lets see, there are quite a few Italian prog bands, mostly good, some bad:

Time Machine: These guys were my fave Italian rockers until I heard the
    mighty Rhapsody
worth checking out is 'Act II Galaleo', classic prog. They have a new album
    out later this month
called 'Eternity Ends', which should be interesting.

Epica: the closest thing to DT soundwise, though they sing in Italian, the
    'Confini' cd is well worth
a listen, good production and musicianship.

Eldritch: A more popular band, there first 2 albums are quite good, if not
    a bit patchy.

Labyrinth: There first album featured now Rhapsody/Athena vocalist Fabio
Lione, it was quite good, but
there new album 'Return To Heaven Denied' is killer power/prog metal, one
    of the years best.

Athena: Featuring the above mentioned Fabio Lione, there second album 'A
New Religion ?' has some great
moments but is let down with a couple of below average songs.

Rhapsody: These guys are unbeleivable, there debut album 'Legendary Tales'
is a classic, featuring epic songs,
sweeping lanscapes of sounds, choirs, orchestra's and the extraordinary
talents of vocalist Fabio Lione (hi Neil)
There second album 'Symphony Of Enchanted Lands' I don't have yet, but I am
told is even better than the first.

Drakkar: These guys are definately the worst Italian band I have ever
wasted $35 for a CD on. Don't let the cool looking cover
fool you, they are desperate Angra wannabee's, poor production, terrible
    arrangements and even worse vocals.

Mike Portnoy throws a drumstick at Korg, lobotomizing him.

    Hehe, you rock.

Thanx, but I still think "Fucking bananaheads" gets the prize. I'm not

Look I know I am not suppose to do this but I am desperte as of now. A
while back, months ago, I met some one through this mailing list who has come
to mean a great deal to me.
We began talking more and more as time went by, and he helped me through
some difficult times. Unfortunately I lost him, his address was on my other
Sn Angellaa and Vanessajmz. These two Sn's were unfortunately deleted before
I had a chance to write down his mailing address.
I am asking anyone who knows a Kevin Kreps to let him know my new Sn or to
let me know his mailing address. Thanks a bunch everyone, and I am sorry to
post something of no relavance but this is my only hope.

Okay, now you got me started. SOEL is TREMENDOUS!!
    Instruments used:

    Drums
    Guitars
    Bass
    Vocals
    Keyboards
    1 Male Russian Kosak Choir
    1 German Church Choir
    Female Baroque Singer
    Marching Drums
    Oboe
    Lute
    Harpsichord
    Violin
    Viola Da Gamba
    1 String Ensemble (11 musicians!)
    Acoustic Guitars
    Mandolin
    Balalaika

The story told on this disk is sorta like a sequel of Legendary Tales, but
i'm not gonna tell you guys much of this....

The music is excellent... Very bombastis, very heavy, lots of
classical/baroque interludes and arrangements, sorta like a more extreme
Angra-sound, i.e. heavier and more classical instruments.

The baroque arrangements sound very natural, they don't sound very
sought-for at all, it just fits in nicely... Also, it's clear that there
is a great deal of fantastic musicianship involved, because the music is
    very complex yet greatly balanced....

My favourite tracks: The Dark Tower Of Abyss: this one has a great
Vivaldi-like intro (that's what Rhapsody say themselves anyway, but
they're right, I gotta admit), a really complex song structure and some
    very moody Choirs.

Beyond The Gates Of Infinity: Great classical interludes and
    accompaniment here...

Symphony Of Enchanted Lands: 13-min 'little' magnum opus of the album...
It consists of four parts, has a really beautiful part with female
vocals, strings and piano in it, and much, much more to discover...

This is sympho-metal at its best...

Rhapsody - Symphony Of Enchanted Lands, released at Limb Music Products,
    cat. no.: LMP 9810-007 CD

hey there! for all the questionning about ibanez' official JPM signature model series: why not check out http://www.ibanez.com btw, yes there are (up to now) 5 models available: the limited jpm100b (the one with the blue, green, red, yellow painting) (i wonder if its really limited... still my favourite axe... but its at service right now, ill get it back on monday, hell for me, two days!!!! :() than the 'gold' jpm100p2 (the one he uses in the another day vid) the black and white (jpm100p3) the 'military' (jpm100p4) and the jpm90HAM (hoshino anniversary model, ibanez is a company of hoshino) - a wonderful guitar (if only i could..) in a fantastic blue translucent finish. so there are no 7strings available in the custom graphic design (yet). john uses guitars the ibanez custom shop usa builds for him, not the ones we can buy in the shop, but they are very close to the originals i guess. but ibanez now offers a rather affordable 7string RG 7620 (blue and black too soon), which makes perfect match if you have a jpm already (hehe) and doesnt cost as much. ytsegreetings

Both Rhapsody and Time Machine are bands from the 2nd Generation of Power Metal (together with Blind Guardian and Angra, for instance), which added a bit of complexity to the usual Power Metal sound, with orchestration (in the case of Rhapsody, for example).

    > Never heard of this Premiata thing... you have some more info?

Premiata Forneria Marconi is the most important Progressive band from Italy. They have a very distinct sound which sometimes reminds me of Yes mixed with Camel (the flute parts definitely remind me of Camel).

Their first albums were written with lyrics in Italian, but later the lyric writer for King Crimson, Peter Sinfeld, translated them to English in order to make the albums appealing to a larger audience. Some people say that this ruined the albums and that the translated versions don't even touch the level of the originals.

If you want to have a taste of what they sound like, please do yourself a favour and get their "Live in the USA", a.k.a. "Cook", which is very good, IMO. It has some funny improvisations (including bits of "The World Became the World" and of "Willian Tell Overture"). Recommended.

    Hope this helps, Roger...

P.S.: Could anyone please help me getting an MP3 or two by Magma? After reading some reviews of their albums, I must say that I'm highly interested in their stuff, since it's "weird" (sic). :-) Thank you very much for any help. -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Rogerio Brito - rbrito@ime.usp.br - http://www.ime.usp.br/~rbrito Undergraduate Computer Science Student - "Windows? Hate to inject my opinion, well actually I love to inject my opinion so here goes:

Journey was great throughout their career. Their so called 'wimpy' stuff was some of the best hard rock and pop music of the 80's/90's. And TRIAL BY FIRE is definately one of their best CD's. Very under-rated. Additionally, they knew how to write a catchy song just oozing with, yeah melody and emotion. Now, to me, if you took Journey and added three parts Rush, one part Maiden, a dab of Priest, and other odds and ends, there you have FATES WARNING. VOILA. It's magic.

I have heard that this tour really goes back to the olden (meaning good) days of Journey....not all the sappy crap, but lots of rockin'!! I'll be seeing them in L.A. on Dec 12, so I'll be posting my review! :-)

Well this exciting for me: My first post!!!!

Anyways, I have noticed a lot of talk about James LaBrie. I think he's a great singer, but it's his stage show that makes me laugh. Like on LiT, during Too Live Forever, when he yells "ALright John!!" he does that running thing, and then he does that McHammer looking dance right behind John P. I loose it everytime. But other than that. I still remember the show at St. Andrews a year ago and he had a sore throat or something and he toned everything down and same everything lower and it was great to hear how he could change all the melody lines and still sound awesome!!

Plus, does anyone know what Amps John P. used for ACOS. Did he just use his road rig? I know he did for the live part, just wondering about the studio track.

also there is a link for John P. at the lexicon site if you guys didn't know: http://www.lexicon.com/artists/john-p.html

Well, at least I think these are relatively new to Metal Blade Records. Thanks to Tracy for sending me some of these CDs!

The Quiet Room - "Introspect" Very cool album. Sounds like No Exit era Fates Warning, maybe a little heavier and with definate prog-metal leanings. The singer sounds like a cross between Ray Alder and Geoff Tate. You can check them out at: http://www.thequietroom.com

Dream Child - "Reaching The Golden Gates" A power metal album very much in the vein of Angra. I beleive these guys are from France and have a couple of albums out already.

Hades - "$avior $elf" death metal or something, but it is kind of semi-speed/thrash style with a good singer, pretty cool overall.

I wasn't able to locate any info on the last two bands, so if anyone has heard of them please comment...
