Max listened to too much Sepultura and vomited:
    > And does ANYBODY know how to find EXTREMELY rare CDs?!?!?!?!
    >
I find them extremely bloody. I prefer them medium well. It also
    prevents E-coli.

Seeriously though, if anyone could find them, they wouldn't be
EXTREMELY rare now would they? :)

Please explain Dream Theater's fixation with playing during the festive
    season.

In this neck of the woods, the time between Christmas and New Year is spent
watching TV and consolidating the expansion of your stomach due to excess
mince pies and turkey. The few days after New Year are spent recovering
from alcohol poisoning, wondering to whom you gave all of the business
cards you had in your wallet, and being a smug bastard because you got more
    snogs than your flatmates.

I cannot imagine why any musician would consider struggling out of his/her
warm comfortable home in the midst of The Bleak Midwinter to perform Heavy
Metal in front of a bunch of insane lunatics who will *not* be satisfied
with the tunes you really *want* to play (like Rudolph the Red-Nosed
Reindeer, Hark The Herald Angels Sing, and that Slade song).

The two gay guys in the DT video are Liv Tyler and her dad.

    Graham

YES! I LOVE being at the end of the jam! :)

maX wonders if he will win "King Of The Jam" for November...

Graham Boyle <CyberDuke> informes the ytsejam of his recent encounters with Mr. Bean naked on a pogo stick:

    >>>I read an interview with Labrie (I'm sure you did too) where he says that if he might do a solo album, but little later in his carrier. BUT, as he says, it won't be prog stuff, but more melodic and soft music (like George Michael etc.) Which is reasonable, afterall he IS a singer - he would do stuff concentrating on vocals. I don't think James listens much prog music. So if he does a solo album don't expect TTT stuff in there! :)<<<

Oh good. No more "BWEEEEAAAAHHH YAAAAHHHH!!!"

But he really IS a great singer. You just can't lay OIALT to DT virgins, tho.

Amanda Rosenblum bows down and worships the almighty Ambassador maX:

    >>>I think I would fall down and devote my life to God if she listened to anything as relatively un-annoying as Alanis,<<<

SoCaller here. And you're right. Alanis bites (tho I love The Cranberries and Natalie Imbruglia)... and I hope she changes her music for the very reason that I'll hold you to this. Even though a lot of Christians and Christian music SUX, the truth is that God can change everything for you, and give meaning to what happens after you die. And you will NOT like what happens if you choose to walk away.

I can prove to you that God exists. E-mail me in private and I'll be glad to have drawn out discussions on the issue. Don't want to take up Ytsejam space for it. Please write to me, ANYONE who thinks I'm talking a bunch of crap. I care about people, and I get hurt by the idea of people just walking away from God. The consequences are not worth the gamble. And like I said, I'll prove him to you...

Now everybody knows that maX is a Christian. OK?! He goes to Calvary Chapel n/d church...

    >>>which is pretty bad cus Im an atheist. However, if it comes to pass in the future that she has as "accident", you can move in with me. ;P<<<

Write 2 me. What if the accident is you? It CAN happen... then what? Dunno? I do.

maX will stop spewing Jesus freaky crap all over the jam now. Just don't make a THREAD over it! You know how I am...

AnalogGal persuades the Dream Theater fans to be just that, while some object because they think she is the Ice Queen, even though the Ice Queen may in fact be none other than KorgX3 himself:

    >Hey everyone! > >Just wanted to encourage all of you to vote in the 13th Annual Metal Edge >Magazine Reader's Poll. Last year, Derek took THIRD PLACE in the Keyboardist >category, and I think we can make him NUMBER ONE this year!!! Visit their >site and vote for EVERYONE in Dream Theater!

Graham Boyle posts the first objection, as he's surely aware of the late night escapades between maX Verran, KorgX3, and Derek Sherinian:

    <That was a JOKE!!!>

    >>>I am sorry, but what makes you think everyone on this list, myself included that we are gonna vote for DT in every catagory ? I certainly wouldn't vote for Derek, specially when I think Jens Johansson is much better.<<<

    Hehe. ;)

    I voted all DT...

    >>>BEST NEW BAND = N/A<<<

    Umm... LTE?

    >Or should we all just vote for DT for the hell of it ? >I think not :P

Um, no. Not for the Hell of it. To promote the band with the best chance of actually getting somewhere. Got your point though. But this IS a war.

Korg Eksthrey returns after a long break to lead the DT Anti Corporate Enterprise Cult to VICTORY!!!:

    >>>It's not really a point fo who you like and who you wish to vote for. It's who you like who is also going to get a decent quantity of votes. I mean Jens is a great keyboardist, but I don't think he's going to receive even a small percentage of votes that fuckin' Marilyn Manson chop is going to get.<<<

I find it odd but, really cool, that NOBODY here ever supports or votes for Marilyn Manson (Faggotus Fruitcakeous) on this list.

    >>>My votes didn't stray far from DT anyway, except I voted Geddy for bassist and Ray Alder for vocalist.<<<

    They might get noticed...

    >>>And even though it will probably be grounds to them to discard my submissions altogether, Loreena McKennit gets best female performer in my book. ;) There are only two women who's voices I have absolutely fallen in love with: Loreena's and Lisa Glasgow's (Regeancy Singers and Orchestra). Their voices make my potty thing tingle. Makes you feel kind of guilty when one is a Christian singer, wot?<<<

Never heard Glasgow. But I think Dolores O'Riordan (Cranberries), Donora Alberti (KMFDM backup), and Natalie Imbruglia are VERY sexy (by voice AND looks), and are really good singers. Loreena is too soft (Like Enya), and gets really old fast. Check 'em out...

But if you're into that style, I'll HIGHLY recommend Nikki Brooks. DT fan and everything. E-mail me and I'll make you a copy somehow, though it may take a while (Damned tape recorders!)

    >>>Pardon me, was I rambling? Of course, I'm a rambling man!<<<

"...proud to be a blue-collar man..." -Styx

Hi all (special greetings to Graham too - he knows why)

    Two words - Black Jester.

Phil Collins: since when has this jumped-up little prat been a good drummer? The stuff he did with Genesis was solid but not impressive, all of his solo shit is aimed at the same market as Chris Rea (bleagh), Simply Red (double bleagh) and Michael Bolton (an infinite number of bleaghs), and it was the other guys in the band who made Brand X good. So when did he do the good stuff?

Is anybody organizing a poll this year? If not, I'll volunteer to do it myself.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse "Jiggling titties, who would have thunk it?" - Bill Hicks

I finally bit the bullet and made a nice big order from CD-NOW. I grabbed the following Angra - Angels Cry/Holy Land double Death - The Sound of Perserverance Trans-Siberian Orchestra - The Christmas Attic Fates Warning - APSOG video DT's live video

NOTE: The rest of this letter contains OPINIONS. If you are offended by opinions then please skip to the next letter.

Anyhow the video's kick ass. Death is a little redundant (Spiritual Healing is by far their best album) Trans-Siberian Orchestra is fucking unbelievable. The only problem I really have with is are the instrumental parts get a little redundant...they almost sound slow and droning after a while but the songs with vocals in them are just great! Angra...I bought this after hearing about a billion posts on this band...I'm having some serious Helloween flashbacks (which is a good thing). The only thing I really don't like about them is the singer. He is good like 99.9% of the time but then there are simply parts where he tries to hit a note and his voice seems to give out. It make me cringe becuase it sound like that note was actually causing him pain to hit. Or maybe he was hitting it and someone slammed a hammer on his foot causing him to screech the last part. Anyhow I'd like to know if anyone knows what happened to old singer from Helloween? (not Kai but the one from the Keeper of the Seven Keys albums) Hell, I'd LOVE to know what happened to Yohan Lanquist (sp) from the first Candlemass album or Messiah from the next 4 (5 if you include the live album).

Hmmm... I saw it getting ripped to pieces by a Swedish reviewer (female one, BTW) some four or five weeks ago. I dunno why, but I seem to rely on her opinion - usually her words make perfect sense. Just a fucking FYI.

    > EVERYBODY disregard this post... he listens to > Sepultura...

Yeah, it says it all doesn't it? :-)

All these "best solos" things... Where is Pat Metheny among them? Shame, people, shame... you'll get that for homework. Metheny. Speak up, kids. "METH-E-NY." Right. Well done.

maX (look, I made it!) wrote: > And am I wrong to assume you listen to Dream Theater? > Anyone with enough sense to be a Dream Theater fan has > decent taste in music.

I don't know what the subject was there, but anyway - that's not necessarily true. A friend of mine (drummer-boy, BTW) listens to DT for Mike Portnoy, EXCLUSIVELY. He doesn't know crap about music in general, but he's a phantom drummer and a big Portnoy fan. On a party the other day (my band played & we kicked ass, I guess :-), he sat on a chair, stomping the floor and tapping his knees in different patterns, and after each pattern he said: "Mike Portnoy does that!", and we were just like, "Yeah...". He's a fucking skateboard-freak. Listens to Offspring, No fun at all and Millencollin, I guess. Is that a "decent taste in music"? Nah. Neither is Sepultura.

Sorry if anyone's offended here - in that case, read the top line once again.

Well, whenever one of my friends gets bored with current prog, I play Braindance for them. Seems to renew the faith a bit. :) Check them out and see what you think. The only thing that I don't like about them is the overuse of samples. They're funny and cool at first, but they get in the way after a few listens. Luckily, they're placed in interludes mostly. Oh, God. Not this again. Why don't we just get the "How do you pronounce Ytsejam thing out of the way while we're at it?" Mind you people newbie type people. We actually got in an overly long discussion on how to pronounce these two. Very drawn out and stupid which, of course, turned into another "My guitarist is better than your guitarist" thread. And we don't want that.

Yngwie = (eeng-vay) Ytsejam = (yit-say jam or yit-see jam) depending on how drunk you are.

Yes, Vinnie Colauita and Terry Bozzio played with Zappa! AND Chad Wackerman did also!!!! Don't forget him! You see, all fo9lks who played with the genius Mr. Zappa have succesful carriers now! :) You name it: Terry, Vinnie, Chad, Steve Vai, Jean-Luc Ponty, ...

Zappa have influence on all their music, especially Vai's. Flex-able is just another Zappa album! And what do you think, where Terry and Vinnie learned all those odd time sigs, weird rhtyhms, breaks... - it's Zappa trademark dude!

Musically, Zappa surfed through all posibble styles and adding his weird stuff also. That's why some folks really hate him - he can't be understood easy! :)

But about his lyrics, they're really bad!!!

Heck, I knew I forgot him! :) Guys, if you don't know him check him out for sure! Forget metal, forget prog, forget rock - this guy kicks serious butt!

On the Skopje Jazz Festival John McLaughlin was here with him and with the keys monster Joe DiFrancesco! Dennis Chambers did a 15 minutes drum solo. I tell ya, it wat first time in the long history of Jazz Festival that the audience was clapping that long! We went totally wild! He was playing fast paraddidles

In the m,iddle of playing he was throwing drum sticks in the audience and with eyes closed you could never guessed he did anything else than drumming! :) Also drinking water while playing etc.

I have Bob Berg / Mike Stern Group CD thast also geatures Dennis Chambers on drums! The first song is 28 minutes long. After you hear this song you becoma a jazz adict! ;) I never heard such storng, rockin' drumming as in this song!

    Dennis IS the DRUM-MAN!

    > Fear him. If John McLaughlin comes to your town, go to > the show as Dennis is playing with him.

The music itself might not be good for everyone, but the drumming will ! :) --

I've got one of his vid's called "Dennis Chambers - Serious Moves." It has him jamming with John Scofield and a bassist (can't remeber the name).

I don't agree (Hi Mike! I too would like Starclassic Kit for Christmas!). Dennis is good but I think there are lots better out there. Carter Beauford for example imho.
