    Hi jammers!

I'm looking for some Rush and DT boot CDs. Some guys told me to try
"alt.music.rush or bootlegs or WHATEVER", but when I type it on my browser
ADDRESS field I get a "Host not found." message.

QUESTION: How do I access those addresses? Do I need to install any special
    program?

    Thanks in advance,

    Alex

    Guilty Secret #56

I like/love prog, and the more complex the better, but on occasional a high
decibel barrage of pure ear candy can be oh so sweet.

A friend of mine loaned me his Quake II CD a few weeks back (good game, got
completely lost, didn't finish it, oh well) The game was cool, but the
*music* was *ON*. Pure Instrumental Rock-Hard Riff Candy played at just the
right tempo and oh so moshable. (who wrote/produced those tunes btw?
Anyone? Anyone?). Long after I'd given up on finishing the game, I'd pop
the CD in the stereo and blast it just for the hell of it.

Are there any groups out there past/present who produce the same sort of
material? DT is good, but every so often you just have to digress. And
    this works.

I think Phil Collins is an excellent drummer, not to mention prodigy for his music writing abilities or the fact that he plays just about every instrument on earth as good as he plays the drums and is an awesome singer. It's all in a person's taste, but I think it's wrong to insult a drummer because he's in a band where the music is "commercial"ly successful (makes lots of money and appeals to the majority of people)! What if Mike Portnoy wound up being in a band like Pearl Jam. I mean the drumming might have been a little more impressive, but if he took it too far it just wouldn't sound right, ya know? Would that mean that Mike Portnoy sucks? I hardly think so!! It just means they play two completely different kinds of music, but then not so completely different, being that an influencial artist to Portnoy and others in the band were Phil Collins/Genesis. Or how about John Bonham, he certainly wasn't what you would consider a "progressive" drummer, but he was one of the most influential drummers of all time. And Ginger Baker, Neil Peart (maybe a bad example since he was progressive, but certainly plays alot simpler than Portnoy), even Ringo Starr was very influencial for a lot of drummers. The Beatles couldn't have had a better drummer to fit the music at that time. Anyway, I'm done flappin' now. Peace!

These are names of newsgroups. Newsgroups aren't websites. You'll have to use a newsreader (unless your browser understand NNTP -- at least, Netscape understands) and the address of a news server (contact your Internet provider if they have a newsserver and what it's address is).

After you've set up everything on your end, just go to:

    news://alt.music.rush news://alt.music.bootlegs news://alt.music.dream-theater

Among other groups, to see if some people are looking for some trades...

BTW, I have some DT boots and we might arrange some trades. I have a CD-R drive, which means that I can copy CDs. And I'm also planning on transferring some tapes with very (DT) rare jams to CDs when I have some free time (after my finals are over).

YEAH! I finally got my share of Black Light Syndrome & Age Of Impact (Thanks Jaco :)

OK, OK, no complaints please - I know I'm a little late, but hey, lemme see you here find this stuff! :(

BLS: Wow, this is one great piece of music! Steve Stevens surprises with his inventions ability! More or less, the biggest burden is on his back. While, of course Terry and Tony does an excellent job too! Now I realize what those jammers were saying about Terry playing notes/music and not just simple drums. :) Very weird style. So, I guess that's a good drummer - while on BLS he shows all his creativity, on AOI he plays straight rhythm as a background, without showing too much!

BTW, what is the role of Gail Zappa, mentioned in the liner notes? If I recall correctly, she's the daughter of Frank Zappa right? Also, can someone tell on which songs/video clips from Billy Idol and Michael Jackson guitarist is Steve?

BLS is a must have for all open-minded enough folks! :) --

    Hello everyone,

Just a few comments on these two extraordinary shows.

SUPERIOR, La Locomotive, Paris, France, 24.11.98. I really enjoyed their latest album "younique" and expected a lot from the show. What I didn't expect is how many people would show up. Believe it or not, but only around 100 fans were present. The reason for such poor attendance remains unknown. A part from that :) the show was very good. The mix, sound, and lights seemed to be perfect. The new material went very well live, they even did "free minded" and "think" with two ladies, Andrea and Maria, on backing vocals. The highlight of the show was Metallica's "sad but true" played in the middle of "dial 9-11". I look forward to hearing these guys again in January when they'll open for Angra and Stratovarius. The play list goes like this:

    1. stop [intro] 2. not with me 3. amok 4. total void 5. god's funeral 6. nothing 7. hades 8. free minded 9. the truth ain't kind 10. escape from reality 11. think 12. why - Encore - 13. dial 9-11 / sad but true / dial 9-11 14. until the end

BRUCE DICKINSON. Elysee-Monmartre, Paris, France, 25.11.98.

Just a few words about the opening act, Pink Cream 69. I don't know how many of you like this German band but I personally found their performance amazingly good. There was a time when PC 69 went into grunge / alternative stuff but after releasing one studio and one live album which didn't receive much appreciation the guys decided to go back to their roots. Those of you who like powerful, melodic hard rock should definitely check out their latest album "electrified". The set was heavily based on the new material and included songs like "shame", "electrified", "stranger in time" among others. And of course some classic tunes like "twisted" and "signs of danger" (which David sings much better than Andi Deris). The crowd seemed to be very pleased with the PC's performance.

But nothing goes in comparison with Bruce's show. I think those of you who had a chance to see him already in Europe would agree that he hasn't been so enthusiastic since his glory Maiden days. As you may see below the set list included 7 out of 10 songs from the "Chemical Wedding" album. First 6 songs were put as a concept show with special William Blake introductions to each one. The only sad point was the absence of Roy Z who had to stay in Los Angeles due to some family problems. Replacement guitarist was "The Guru", guitar technician on the "CW" album. I would expect Adrian Smith to play all solos but no way, half of them were played by that weird guy with the weird name. I wish he didn't!.... All other band members were great! Obviously everyone's attention was gathered around Bruce and Adrian Smith who, btw, did the note-to-note solo on "powerslave". That one was a killer; it almost took me back to 1985, to the World Slavery Tour. "2 minutes to midnight" Bruce sang better than he did in Maiden after the Seventh tour. Once again, Mr. Dickinson proved to be the best singer on today's metal scene. There aren't too many dates left but if you have a chance to see him GO!, you won't regret.

Anyway, here's what the band played that night:

    1. trumpets of jericho 2. king crimson 3. chemical wedding 4. gates of urizen 5. killing floor 6. book of thel 7. tears of the dragon 8. laughing in the hiding bush 9. accident of birth 10. the tower 11. the darkside of acquarius 12. powerslave - Encore 1 - 13. tattooed millionaire 14. 2 minutes to midnight - Encore 2 - 15. road to hell 16. flight of icarus

    Take care all.

    Volodya.

Hello everyone, I don't know if this has been mentioned here, but the Mike Portnoy Drum Clinic on Tuesday, Dec. 1, is not going to be at the Long Island Drum Center (like it says on UACM) but at Alegante Caterers at 1031 North Broadway in North Massapequa. It starts at 7. You can get to Alegante from exit 30 N of the Southern State Parkway and the place is five or six blocks north of the parkway.

Not really an answer to your question but putting the new Anthax in the drive instead of the Quake II cd also produces great results while playing quake II :)

Go into Outlook express, or netscape. at the address box if you are using a web browser, type news://news.server.com/alt.music.whatever. This tells you web browser to query your news server. You must know what your news server is and fill it in after the two slashes in the news thingie. If you have outlook express running, and you filled in your news server information, you can use that to find the newsgroups you are looking for. You can also go to deja news website and do that there. I am not a newsgroup junkie so I can't help you much there. At 05:17 AM 11/27/1998 -0800, you wrote: Hi jammers!
