    Hey,

Just been to the new OIALT Elektra site and I must say I like
the cover art very much, I also liked the audio clips except for the
fact that some donkey thought it would be good to talk all over it! And
that they managed to get all the names wrong.

            Record companys eh...?!

ok, that was one of those sarcastic opposite posts, right? vai: listen to
For The Love Of God on passion and warfare. malmsteen: he IS one of the
fastest. and he doesn't express emotion. he plays scales and arpeggios. or
at least, if that's an emotion he's expressing, he's been expressing the
same emotion for 10 years :) i like yngwie but i really don't think you can
honestly say he plays with much emotion at all. well, unless you count the
    pride and ego. :) moo.

In case you were wondering, they do make a car CD player that holds 100 discs.
In fact, they have them now that hold 200...geez...talk about overkill. Makes
ya want to take a loooooooong road trip just so you can listen to all the
    music.

What I'm waiting for (and I won't have to wait long, fortunately) is a good
car MP3 player with a LOT of disk space...now that'd be cool. The advent of
the new airwave modems that are coming soon will revolutionize the MP3
industry. Imagine driving down the street and downloading a new MP3 to your
    car...wow.

melissa, I understand what you mean about ticketmaster. I bought two
tickets and paid 10 dollars in additional charges. I think I will buy
from the outlet on campus from now on, because it will only cost an extra
    dollar per ticket.

On another, more DT related note, I introduced a friend of mine, who plays
trumpet, to Dream Theater. He is mostly into Jazz, but when we took a
midi file of A Change of Seasons and analyzed it using Cakewalk, he was
blown away by the time signature changes, number of chords, and the chord
progression. He didn't believe that any musician was able to accomplish
this. He didn't even think that 17/16 time was possible until he saw the
two brief portions of ACOS that are in 17/16 time. I didn't even fully
appreciate the song, even though I already loved it, until I saw it broken
down into individual tracks and I saw the staffs for the music. It was
    quite an awesome experience.

2 things I gotta get off my chest and outta my spleen:

    1) The onceinalivetime site is not working properly beyond the main page.
    2) I wish the band would go back to their original I&W and AWAKE logo. As a designer, and dr. pepper imbiber, and insane but spiritually rich neverbeenabusdriver kinda guy, I do like that logo BY FAR the best. Same with Fates logo on PS and P.
    3) Between Rush, FW and DT this month, I think I'm gonna become a monk. Atleast one who goes on a prog-music fast for a month or two. Geez....

Oops... sorry... I lied. That was *3* things. Gah. Math used to be a strong subject. Now the only subject that is strong is Aldo Nova's great second CD.

Really? I've heard many people say it, and I'm one of them. The best

wasn't mentioned specifically in the list, this belongs to the etc. group.
We've had nothing but flames and dismay over Yngwie vs. the world on the

rational and non-personal at least? And sensibly, if your name's not Steve
Vai or Yngwie Malmsteen, please don't post in their defense. :)

Quick albums reviews for the day:
    Shadow Gallery's "Tyranny":
Although some people thought this CD should come with a gift certificate for
Hickory Farms, I can't say the same. Although it contains lots of soaring,
well-blended vocals, I don't think any of it's cheesy at all. It IS one of
those albums that I might have to listen to a couple of times to really
enjoy (because there's so much involved), but I have good feelings about
this disc being hailed as a top acheiver for '98. Surprise of the album:
    Chris Ingles' new look.

    Bruce Dickinson's "A Chemical Wedding."
This one reminds me of taking a trip to the dentist without feeling the
pain. It massages the gums, has jagged, broken teeth, performs extractions,
rows you down a root canal, and ends with a nice refreshing flouride
treatment with all the slobber involved. Maybe not as great as "Accident of
Birth" but is an excellent follow up. And to answer an unasked question...
Yes, Adrian is playing on thie CD as well.

    Fare thee well, little ones!

Q:Is there something in the world worth listening to, in the lines of progressive metal? JO: Not a whole lot. I like Pink Floyd. Dream Theater, perhaps. ******

I remember reading a few years ago in the 'jam about what was written on Kevin Moore's keyboard. Does anyone know what it says?

Come on, guys. Do you really think that Steve Vai OR Yngwie could have gotten where they are today, without 110% dedication, and 110% heart and soul devotion to their music and their instruments? Just because someone has technical mastery of their instrument dosent mean they have no soul. It means they practice more , and they are more dedicated then the average schmuck who wants to be a "soulfull" notalent wannabe. That shit is just an excuse and everyone on this list knows it. Facing the Animal is a great album , Fire Garden is a great album. And both have tons of soul. Listen to "For the Love of God" and tell me Vai dosnet have soul, or listen to "Id Die Without You" , and then tell me Yngwie wasnt inspired when he wrote that tune.
