I don't want to turn this theme in this Jam into a big one, but being an
Yngwie fan as well as a Vai and a Petrucci fan at the same time, I can't
just "read" these lines.
First of all I think you absolutely can't say that Vai has no feeling! Are
you that good to judge?! I think it's a little bit of different to the
feeling Yngwie expresses with/in his playing, so I think it's not really
"comparable" and you have to start with a different point of view to
understand...
In my opinion the feeling of Yngwie is likely to understand in the "bluesy
way" of feeling. He is sometimes not really accurate when he's playing the
faster stuff, but that's him and it's part of his style and it's good as it
is. It seems to me that he develops his phrases more from the
"above-the-phrase-point-of-view" and it doesn't matter if one or two notes
are a little bit blurred or swallowed sometimes (you could say they have to
be like that). Guitarists like Vai or Petrucci seem to approach their lines
more from the "technical-point-of-view" (not everything they are playing,
just to part the two styles literally a bit wider). Every note has to be
clear and accurate, no difference at what speed the whole thing's happening.
But what comes out, IS a feeling like the one described above, different,
but not "no feeling" (hey, be fair), (where would we get if every feeling is
the SAME!). In my opinion Joe Satriani is a good example for a guitar player
who managed to let both influence and combine the two "approaches" in his
outcoming playing. So, if you take a step back and look at the whole
picture, out come their individual "style" and their individual "feeling"
and playing, maybe just with a slightly different approach in the detail,
but the picture that is painted is FEELING. Who wants to say Vai or Petrucci
have no feeling or their feeling is "better" or more "profound" than
Yngwies, I beg your pardon, anyone? (You may like the one better like the
other, but that's on a different sheet here; maybe you just haven't
"understood" the other feeling right?).

If they will never play ACOS in it's entirety again, which I hope they
will change their mind, I hope they'll play Carpe Diem.
I wonder if Erotomania was played live as well, being that theres no
singing in it. Can't leave out James. :) But this song is so great.

Well, seriously no intention to flame ANYONE. Just saying that I kinda
agree with O! Yngwie definitely has some AWESOME songs, but he's really
boring many times. You can't listen him for more than 1 hour! :)
I'll always respect him though. That "Trilogy Suite Op.5" is ONE OF THE
MOST ROCKIN' 'N WILD GUITARS I ever heard!!!! Woooooooohooooo! ;)))

NOOOOOOOOOOO! Don't do that man!
Being only MACEDONIAN here I must defend! And yes, publically, so that
everyone should know the big deal of this.
FYROM is just kinda temporary name under which we were recognized in UN
or something. And the reason for this STUPIDITY is because Greece
doesn't accept our name "Macedonia". Yeah, there is also an area in
Greece called Macedonia but it doesn't matter because anyway north
Greece is full of Macedonians. They deny it but it's true! I can speak
more about Balkan history but believe me, you don't wanna read 30KB!
And I kinda doubt Greece are really very serious, it's just some stupid
political stuff.
BTW, I don't hate Greeks, ... I have few Greek friends etc. I hate this
stupid politics and what kind of stupid conflicts happen because of
this. We were always called Macedonia, and we were one of the 6
republics in former Yugoslavia (yep, the one where Bosnia was too, and
Kosovo) The only thing is tha we were doomed that always someone
occupied us!
So, I, CyberDuke or Dushko, whatever, am from Macedonia!
And Asmodel, please don't post things you're not sure off! Don't believe
everything you read over there. The material you read that had to be
printed with FYROM because they don't want conflicts with Greece, NONE
other reason. Huh, who asks us? But you have a lot of Greeks there and
they're popular and they're giving you the wrong info. (And no, I'm not
pissed off at you :)
P.S. If Macedonia doesn't exist, why we have American embassy here and
my mom is working in it?

Just to add my 2p (pounds Sterling only for us British please):
Check out Steve Vai's BLUE POWDER (on Passion and Warfare). I first heard this
about ten years ago on a sound page (remember them?) I think in Guitar Player
magazine. It was the first time I ever heard his playing and that did it for
me. Pure emotion.
Also FOR THE LOVE OF GOD is pretty good (same album)
I think I would put Johnny P first in the orgasmic guitar list, though Stevie
is a very close second ;-)

also plays part of Platt Opus, so I guess we are BOTH right. Hope this

I agree, JP and Vai are both incredibly emotional players. I saw them both
last year (G3 ant Touring Into Infinity). I must say the Vai's show on the G3
is absolutely amazing!!!! If he's not emotional then I don't know what is?
Besides the fact that he's a showoff =) he IS a very emotional player.

spoken word album "Think Tank" and it is awsome. I highly suggest getting
this. Not only is Mr. Rollins a very intellegent speaker but he is funny
as shit. A True Masterpiece. Hey W. Tuggmutton, thanks for getting me

Now on to something completely different. I was curious if there was ever
an interview with Kevin Moore where he stated his own reasons for leaving.

This CD is hands down THE BEST of 1998 (haven't gotten Superior's new one
yet). I never thought I would say this, but they BLEW AWAY their last CD
"Carved in Stone".
For those you LOVE prog rock/metal with a great concept album as I do, then
BUY TYRANNY!!!!!!!!!
This CD rocks at times better than most anything I have heard since Awake.
Further, there are a couple great ballads which I also like a lot. This
whole CD is SUPER and demands our attention. The concept is similar to
Operation: Mindcrime in my first few impressions.

<<I am not a fan of the "newer" Dream Theater cover art. I dunno I think the
older style art (Change of Seasons and before) said "Dream Theater" a
little more. For example I would condsider the old font that the band name
used to be written in to be a lot more "Dream Theateresque" then the bubble
letters on FII or the OIALT style lettering on the site and on the cover.>>
This might be due to the fact that before, as I've heard, they would come up
with what they would want the cover to look like, then tell a design company,
or whoever did their covers what they wanted and they'd do it. But, the guy
who's done the covers for FII and OiaLT happens to be the same guy who's
done every cover for every Floyd album (minus The Wall and The Final Cut),
and some Zeppelin too (Houses of the Holy, Presence, In Through...) as well
as a bunch of other bands that I cant really think of right now. This would be
Storm Thorgerson. I know the way he comes up with the art for the cover and
the rest of the album is not to get any initial input from the band, but instead,
listen to the album and come up with a cover concept, or a variety of concepts
and present them to the band. And, basically, the band picks whatever they
like the best. Maybe its just cause the band I was really into the most when I
got into DT for the first time was Floyd, but I really love Storms work, especially
the covers for Animals and The Division Bell. I'm pretty sure it was his idea to
change the fonts, so you can blame him for that too ;-)

Hey, This is probably one of those forbidden threads, but I'll speak my mind regardless:
>Ticketmaster are not thieves; they are businessmen > If one doesn't like Ticketmaster's service >charges, don't buy tickets from them. No one forces you. >So, go to the service-charge-free venue, buy tickets there, and >boycott Ticketmaster.
The above are excerpts that I feel give the gist of what I'll be replying to. While these facts are quite sound, there is a great deal behind the TM business that is IMHO monopolistic and not in the realm of fair play. The costs to get into this type of business are outrageous, and several companies folded because in the early 90s, TM had the funds in reserve to undercut their competitors. How? Does anyone know who has a big stake in TM's ownership? This should be an easy one... When all the other ticket companies went under or downsized severely (Ticketron, etc.), TM jacked their prices up. Case in point: I bought tickets for a show at Brendan Byrne arena my sophomore year at college and the service charge was $2.50 per ticket. For the same show at that very same arena five years later, the charges were $5.50 per ticket PLUS a handling charge for the whole order! On top of that, TM often requires you to have the tickets sent FedEx for proof of receipt and makes you pay for that (as I had to with my Ozzfest tix). In addition, many venues do not hold hours where you can easily buy tickets. Some clubs aren't even open during the day, so try getting a ticket on your lunchbreak. And don't even get me started on those F**KING bracelets. I got burned bad on plenty o' tix because the phone reps don't have to say that stores are handing out bracelets. My solace comes in the fact that many venues now refuse to use TM at all, especially here in Western Mass. Smaller venues have realized that the return from selling through TM is not worth the hassle. They sell at the door and through "mom and pop" ticket companies. In fact there is one such company in Northampton, MA that is actually run by a group of venues that were fed up with TM. There service charges are beyond low. So while TM may be run by businessmen, that by no stretch means they're allowing market competition. I commend Pearl Jam for their efforts in fighting the beast, but it will take action on the part of venues and smaller ticketing companies to cause any real change. Just keep in mind, the government doesn't give a hoot about a monopoly unless they can make heaps of cash out of fines and licensing.
