I was just wondering if anyone else wonders what JLB sings in "To Live Forever" in the part where the lyrics are supposedly "My heart never once led me astray" because that's not what I hear, not even really close. I hear something like "My hunger......me to sleep" or something. Are the "led me astray" thing official lyrics?
Maybe this has been discussed before, but I didn't read about it and I'm just curious. Again I'd like to ask if anyone out there has some sound file of RTK with lyrics, and if anyone has been able to hear the ytsejam classical piano version. I downloaded it twice, and it always sounds all garbled; it might be my winamp
configuration but I can't find anything wrong with it. Some advice would be cool. THanks.

And I had to add, though these are not prog albums...anyone who loves metal with lots of melody...check out Children of Bodom's album Something Wild. Incredible. Lots of gret keys and fast, melodic guitar work. I'd describe them as black power metal, cause of the keys, double bass, and the fact that although the vocals are
black metal style, and there's the occasional blast beat, the riffs are more reminiscent of melodic old metal than anything else. Another death metal band that has always had its prog elements is Death. Their new album, Sound of Perseverance, is awesome. Think Symbolic, but more proggish...and you should hear their cover of
Priest's Painkiller. Oh yeah last thing, any Priest fans, I'm interviewing Ripper next week so anyone with some questions email me privately and I'll ask. Sorry for the NDTC. Later.

I agree 100%! We are talking about 2 different styles withing the genre.
Yngwie = Faster, more technically straightforward, slightly heavier
Vai = more emotional, leaning toward a more progressive style

("These opinions, which I have here, and are mine, are my own opinions,
Ehhhheeem! EEEhhheeem!" - Monty Python skit)

They both have "soul" with their individual styles. Listen to "Touching
Tongues" or "For the Love of God" by Vai and then listen to "Black Star" or
"Deja Vu" back to back and you will hear the two distinct styles. This, "My
dad can beat up your dad", crap is getting old... Thaink yo!

about macedonia.....i thought there were two of 'em, just like Erie, PA and Erie, NY, both of which claim to be the home of the canal and damn near went to war over it on six separate occasions this century.....or that could be the chloral hydrate talking, this girl in my lab was trying to anesthetize an animal when it jumped, making her jump, syringe in hand, and I happened to be standing beside her at the time....no, i didn't get poked, just a tiny little squirt hit me....and I'm assured it doesn't have any effects through skin, but then again, I am feeling a little woozy.....of course, that could be the beer talking, we had two people in this lab defend PhD dissertations this week, meaning the boss brought the booze (AND COOKIES!)(those of you who were on irc recently may recall my tale), of which a few bottles still remain, of which I imbibed recently (Hey, it's getting pretty damn cold out there, and I gotta walk a mile and a half home right after i finish scribbling this e-mail....hmmmm, maybe i should take another nip for the road).......

anyway......OiaL....we are the ytsejam, we reserve the right to criticize any damn thing we please.....and as a member of such an august (and eveything after) body, I will admit this: I ain't gonna be buying that package any time soon. 1) I am at this time poor 2) My DT fandom is ebbing, to the point where Rush is a clear #1 fave band, (but Dt remains a solid #2) and C) any time soon means not in the next twenty days, I'll see you in the record store october 27th.....

almost had you (all three of you who actually bother reading my posts) going, didn't I?

So where do we begin, and what else can I say about Still LIfe being one HELL of a set, and something that I seriously doubt that OiaL will even be able to come anywhere near? Waiting for the Rush set, and then the war for #1 album released in 1998 will begin, the current contenders being The Wake of Magellan, Left of Cool, Younique and Still Life.....note to self, get ascension to eternity, or whatever Blevins and the boys ended up calling their second disc.....

Images and Words may have competition up at the top of my all-time favorite album list (it's tied with the joshua tree right now).....there is this little album called "UNFOLDED LIKE STAIRCASE" which has been storming up my personal charts since i received it last March, a 1997 release from the band DISCIPLINE (nothing to do with King Crimson/Fripp's DGM) (other than the fact that they play prog and are influenced by Belew and company) (and are damn damn good)......found me a comparison for the vocalist, Matthew Parmenter's voice....Peter Hamill from Van Der Graaf Generator.....if you don't know that band, they're decent as well, picked up a couple of VDGG on vinyl.....

well, it's a long long way to tipperary, and if I don't stop myself, I could go on forever, or until I fall asleep whichever comes first......

    g'nite! partha

It was very different than the album version and became a "cult classic" among DT fans at the time. Yes, it's the original version of A Change of Seasons, taken from the Limelight show. If you want further information, point your browser to <http://www.ime.usp.br/~rbrito/setlists> and look for the file called thedanceofeternity.html. It's the setlist of that show and some comments of mine about the show.

    Just FYI,

Anyone looking for Prism Records' "Mosaic" or "Darkest of Winters" for a low price should check www.ebay.com. They are on auction (as well as a couple of other DT items) there...Mosaic is at $5 and TDoW is at $7 right now......

Just go to that link, and put "Dream Theater" in the search box, and you should find it no problem. There's also a free registration thing that you have to do in order to bid, but it's no big deal.....

    just passing some info. along...
