Hey guys. Just wanted to share in the praise of Tool. This is one band
that I cannot live without. I heard "Sober" on the radio about 3 years
back, and proceeded to hunt down the band which made this awesome work
of art. I guess some people would consider them to be progressive
metal, since a lot of their songs are in odd meter and have more to them
than just "intro, chorus, 2nd verse, bridge, outro" etc. You gotta love
a band who says "Fuck L. Ron Hubbard" in a song. BTW, the recipe on
track 10 or whatever it is, "Die Eier Von Satan", is a recipe for the
Eggs of Satan, a cookie with a bit of hashish in it for an extra kick.

it was Hitler or something. Nope!

Just wanted to tell you about the Mike Portnoy sighting at the King's
X/Galactic Cowboys show at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY on Saturday night.
He ran out onstage and surprised the hell out of the crowd - many of whom were
wearing Dream Theater T-shirts - and sang along with GC for a few seconds
before running off again.
Looks like Mike has found something to do between DT tours..... Singing back-
up for Galactic Cowboys!!

Hey Mark - Great new look on UACM...
I'm a professional web developer and I know how much of a pain in the
ass it is to hand-code every line of HTML (esp. in Notepad, for the love
of God), but for a kick ass site like yours it's worth it!
Also, I'm under the impression that the majority of Jammers here don't
like the new font - I think it's very cool - it's good for a band to
evolve and refine their image through cover art and fonts, etc...
Just my two cents...

Guitar Magazine Jon Finn, a brilliant guitar player and Berklee prof. has
an instructional column. In it he says that on his new album "Wicked"

different people get different discounts. i for example got a $50 discount,
and was able to get OiaL, 5YiaL, and a Death CD all for $6 including FedEx

yeah but this font sucks :) i like the I&W DT logo but i don't mind them changing it, i think most people just don't like the font they chose. i don't either, it looks really, hmm, i can't find a word for it, cheap seems to pop into my head. Moo.

ive got a lot of nationality. i look and sound Korean. cept, that's only partly. One thing that irks me is that once i tell them that ive got Korean in me..they look all stupid and say " so youre really Chinese ? " are you people stupid, or just have selective hearing ?
I could care less whether Myung is Chinese, Korean, Mongolian or whatever. he's who he is. who cares about what color skin he has. he's zitless, that's one thing that makes him cool. among others, he's a good musician. so no one should care who's Greek, French,Scandinavian or what such nonsense this is.

Its called "musical integrity." Get used to it, cause they do a lot of it. (ie. Metropolis part 2 is 25 minutes long). Not just Dream Theater, though, this goes for most all progresive bands.
Stamina would refer to a song like Caught in a Web, for example (although I really cant give this since you didnt get Awake). Anyway, besides the fact that Portnoy is hammering on the double bass like a monster for the entire middle section of the song, Petrucci does that 16th note chromatics line for a good 10 or so bars (not just in 4/4, I think theres a 3/4 and 2/4 in there) then without stopping, goes into his own solo which starts out as 16th notes (I think the time sig's are something like 4/4, 5/4, 3/4, 4/4) then goes even faster at 16th note triplets without stopping, and does that for a good 5 measures. THAT is stamina, and the song is only around 5 1/2 minutes. the length of the song doesnt always refer to how much stamina it takes. It takes a lot more stamina to do a song like Voices (the "thought disorder...." part, guitar-wise again) than it takes to do Pink Floyd's Echoes (which is over twice the length of Voices - 20 someodd minutes). Mostly cause the entire middle section is just squeals and pings and stuff ;-). Hope that clears up the difference between stamina and just long songs.

Has anyone else noticed how Out of Nowhere (track 3) on Tyranny begins with the same riff and same style solo as the outro to Cliffhager (track 1) from Carved In Stone? Also the liner at the end of Cliffhanger also states (To be continued...) Perhaps Tyranny explains how the gentleman in Cliffhanger came to be running from some authorities and ended up "Three fingers clinging to an icy cliff." Cliffhanger also mentions a "contact" who took him to a preacher... Perhaps he chatted with this contact over the 'net, hmmmm, and the met the preacher together on Christmas Day?

I was checking out the ToT solo in the FII tab book, and I see at the very end, theres a string of 4 groupings of 32nd notes. I take a look at the tempo and its 132 BPM. WTF?!?!?!??! Now, I know Petrucci is fast, but GOD DAMN! In his video he starts doing an exercise at 216 bpm and messes up halfway, saying "that was very difficult." Could it be whoever tabbed this out was hearing more notes than there actually are (I know that whoever tabbed Erotomania for Guitar World a while back had that problem, the end solo, anyway) or was Petrucci just trying not to show off too much in his vid, and only PRETENDED to mess up. If he's really playing that, then I dub JP the fastest guitarist Ive ever heard.

I just wanted to say tha I'm not goind to hang you, cause, in fact, I agree with you. I discussed this with a couple of friends (just a couple, since DT isn't very known around here (I'm from Quebec city, btw...)), and we said just that. DT needed to do something friendlier to the general public so they could get popular and make money. And since money is kinda crucial for rock groups...
I also agree for Images and Words. It's the album I prefered, even if all their albums are truly amazing.

Well, I had to listen to it about 30 times before I posted, but it only took the first listen to love... This CD is just simply incredible. There is no other way around it. The vocals and vocal harmonies are thick and are really driven home... You just listen to it from beginning to end and are drawn more and more into the story in each listen... who ever said this is rock-opera is dead on...
I belive this is THE best concept album since Queensryche's Mindcrime... The album is simply incredible... You must hear it for yourself... It's a story through music and it's incredibly well written...
This thing hasn't left my CD player since I got it, and the only other thing to do that is LTE...

you know how Macs have that "Beep" or "Droplet" noise to warn you when you screwed up somehow? like when you're in Microsoft Word and you try to advance the cursor beyond the last line?
well, at that paper i work for, there was once long ago some kind of computer wizard dude.....he rigged up a computer to play a soundbite of Meg Ryan orgasaming from "When Harry Met Sally" to play as that warning sound.....
the wizard part of that description doesn't come from the fact that he fed his own sounds into that role, hell I can do that.....
the wizard part stems from the fact that he hid his work in a way that no one, not even the current systems analyst guy, can figure out how to change the sound, so we could get rid of it.....as such, the computer has been silenced these past few years.....
well, the systems dude has planned a general wiping of computer memories of unnecessary stuff coming up soon, so, for old time's sake, the staff turned the sound back up on the porno 'puter..... i think we're gonna get in trouble if too many more phone calls are interrupted by Meg Ryan getting off......
right about now, i should introduce you to one last player in this here tragicomedy.....our nice as hell, religious as hell news writer/delivery guy......totally quiet guy, totally into gospel, saw him once in his car going absolutely nuts over a tape of a preacherman.....
he saw me, realized that i saw him carryin' on....and the guy basically blushed.....now, for a dark skinned black guy, that ain't no mean feat!
anyway, he was in the newsroom last friday or thursday, working on a story.....working on THAT computer....and as you probably saw coming from a mile away, he did something to set HER off......
let me tell you folks, you ain't never seen eyes open up wider and faster than this poor guy's eyes did.....and his jaw.....i swear, i truly thought that large a drop, that big a gaping mouth was only possible in the cartoons.....
seemed like forever it took him to respond, but it couldn't have been more than a second or two....and then he was off, jabbing at the screen and the front of the mac, trying to shut Meg off, muttering, "no, no,no..." the whole time.....
maybe you had to be there, but it was surely on of the funniest things i've seen in a long long time!
