nope. they say specifically, you can't combine discounts from multiple
accounts, even if they all belong to the same individual. but you CAN keep
trying with a new account each time till you get the $50 off... hehe, i
wonder how long it'd take. if anyone tries that, please let me know how many
accounts you had to make before you got your $50 coupon :) moo.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra is a side project of my personal 2nd favorite band: Savatage. TSO includes the 'Tage members, as well as a host of other guest musicians. They have two CD's out, both of which are Christmas-oriented classical concept albums. "The Christmas Attic" is the new one (came out Tuesday), and the other is "Christmas Eve and Other Stories". There's also a 3rd (non-Chrismas) disc in the works, entitled "Beethoven's Last Night."
The cool thing about TSO is there's just enough rock elements (guitar, etc.) to keep a rock/metal fan like myself very interested, but at the same time those elements are inserted very tastefully, so that your average grandmother could still listen to it! :-D
I highly recommend both discs.

I'm an ardent reader of the jam and would like to point out that musical trend moves in a circle. A lot of music from the past is resurfacing or has resurfaced in the past years. I believe that the reason this happening is because music is moving into a postmodern phase. Almost nothing is original. Everything comes from somewhere. Musically speaking. I'm not a techno fan but if you listen to techno music closely, and it takes no genius to know that techno is greatly idolised by dare I say, brain-dead morons, you will realise the repetitive bass beat, distinctive hi-hat sound and simple lyrics is techno's asset. Listen to any disco stuff, you will hear the same thing.

I have to also disaggree about the remo muffle-Os. They muffle way too much. I have a Premier Signia 18x22 bass drum. and the best combination I've come up with is an Attack Terry Bozzio 1 ply no overtone head, which has a little mylar ring around the inside, and I cut up one of those egg crate things you use on your bed to fit inside my bass drum. If you cut it deep enough to touch both heads, and between 1 foot and 2 feet wide depending on your sound preference. It's much cheaper than the EQ pad, and it looks better than Masters of the Universe. ( no offense)

So I got my Ibanez 7620 last week.. I love the thing... I'm itching for a free weekend to finish mastering that JP run at the beginning of the Lie solo :)
I was wondering if anyone else had one of these guitars ? And if so, what do you think of the pickups ? I like em, but I can tell they're not as hot/smooth as my rg570's PAF Pro[neck]/Tone Zone[bridge] combo... I know DiMarzio is making some 7 pole pickups now... just haven't looked into it too much yet...

Road Update: Oct. 13, Millbrook NY, LIQUID TENSION BREAKS WATER...
A surprising change of schedule: John Petrucci's wife went into labor today(!) so after getting the phone call, he went home to Long Island, leaving us at a loss how to procede with our 10 days for recording the quartet. After congratulating him and seeing him off, we spent the night jamming with just the three remaining, and will make decisions tomorrow. A little awkward for me, since I'm off to tour with P4 next week. We'll see. One thing for sure, the one composition that we were just finishing will be called "When the Water Breaks."

IT is now as if you are walking on a narrow path at the top of some great cliff. To your side, there's a breathtaking drop to the sea far below. How safe are you? How scared should you be? In so far as you're fully aware of a particular danger, you have every reason to relax. There's no way that you're going to take a silly risk or forget to watch your footing. The existence of your potential problem is providing a constant reminder of the need for caution. Be glad of the TENSION you feel and stop worrying!

YOU can have an entire armoury at your disposal but if you don't know how to employ the firepower, it won't help you win your battle. Conversely, if your aim is true and your target is carefully chosen, you can accomplish all you need to with a single shot. Mercury's helpful link to Mars is your promise of a day during which there's every chance of being successful. To win convincingly though, you must summon some brainpower, discretion and forethought. And you must then employ some very clever TIMING.

ARIES (Mar 21 - Apr 20) What are you supposed to do now? What particular miracle should you be trying to work? What superhuman feat of strength ought you to be attempting? It certainly seems as if something drastic needs to happen. Perhaps though, despite what you think, there really is no need to turn a part of your world upside down. A significant force is silently working in your favour as we speak. It intends to go on exerting itself relentlessly, day and night, till the right kind of change has come about. The force in question is the most understimated power in the world. It's called 'the passage of time'. Give it a chance to prove what it can do.

On the topic of the DJ saying DT were "too 80's":
My 2 cents worth - this is no more than an assesment of how DT *don't* fit into the current musical trends carefully constructed by that large abomination called the commerical music scene (or MTV or whatever).
That particluar DJ is about as good as that dickhead from Artists, Poets and Madmen, slagging DT as being a resurgance of those 80's bands like Rush and G'n'R that we all wanted to 'forget' about (or something to that effect).
It's poor saps like these fellas that cruise along in life critically reviewing music in terms of it's ability to adhere to current trends. They might as well have the hand of MTV up their arse due to such puppet-ish actions.
I wonder WTF they listened to in the 80's? Did they put the music of the 80's down because it was too 80's? Of course not! 80's music was IN in the 80's, so of course they wouldn't slam it - not with all the TV and radio play 80's music was getting in the 80's. It HAD to to be cool.
But now, trends have changed - the grungy, underachieving loser-punk thing is IN now (once again courtesy of that large abomination) so 80's isn't 'cool' now - so let's slam it. The commerical music industry picked up on the chance to market this new grunge image, so off it went with it's herd of sheep and killed the 80's. For better or worse, who knows? But now, anything that even hints at some sort of derivative influence reaching back past 1990 is slammed as being "too 80's".
Funny enough, when the next 'trend' presents itself at the turn of the decade/millenium (don't worry, we won't have to figure it our for ourselves, the abomination will tell us what it is), and forces music of the 90's back into the current position the 80's currently holds, you can safely bet that that same dickhead DJ will reject a request to play Nirvana because it's "too 90's".
Go figure.
God bless the Jam.
Luke.

Oh, sure. Bad enough that the jam gets its own spam mail. Now you send us yours, too! (Granted, I'm the one commenting on it...) So on a whim, I checked out http://www.musicvox.com. 'Flamboyant' is a pretty good word... sort of looks like Salvador Dali threw up all over the plans for a Les Paul. Interesting if you're into retro guitars (i.e. the glittery Epiphone Les Paul's and Fender Mustang-type-thingies) but for you Ibanez and Jackson Axe-wielders, you'll just call these (as Mark said) hootenanny guitars. :)

Here's my story about how DT managed to find me. It was back in '92, I think, when me and a bunch of friends went to see Iron Maiden at the Ritz in NYC. I was very much into Rush at that point, and sort of getting away from Iron Maiden at that point. But, being a huge Maiden fan in high school and having alot of friends that were too, I felt the urge (and in a sense, the obligation) to go see them when nearby, even though I thought (IMHO) they were basically done at that point (no Adrienne Smith). Anyway, the point is that I usually didn't go in for opening bands (my experience was that they were usually terrible), but my friends all insisted we go inside. Let me tell you, the band already on stage when I walked into that club was playing stuff the likes of which I'd never heard! I am not positive what song it was, but I'm pretty sure that I walked right into the middle of Metropolis!! (I think this because I remember Mr. Myung's tapping "exercise" during that song) Most people that I've tried to get into DT I have to preface everything with "you have to listen to it a few times to get the hang of it, etc." Not me! This music struck a cord with me. "Heavy metal Rush?" I thought. "Could this be for real?" Apparently my one friend was also amazed. I remember remembering the group name and forgetting the album name. But when I went to the cd store in the mall (one that I would never buy from because of their prices), I&W was right there! Obviously, the rest is history. Question..I thought I may have read somewhere that this was James Labrie's first show with DT. Am I crazy? If not, then I think this story becomes twice as cool (at least for me).
