Hi all.
I happened to stumble upon this page at Tony Levin's site: http://www.papabear.com/pbtlff.htm , describing some sort of accessory, called Funk Fingers.
Now, I have discovered that Mr. Levin has a great sense of humour. So I wonder if all this is made up because of his sense of humour as well? I mean: DO THEY EXIST?
And in that case: Why the hell should anyone buy 'em?

I got the $50 discount this week and I'm not a frequent
shopper. About a month ago I bought LTE from cdnow and that's it. I
played the trivia quiz last week and got $5 off, on a whim I played this
week and got the $50. I guess it's just luck, or maybe they are trying
to lure me into parting with more of my money?!

since that topic is really trendy, heres my -looong- story: I once listened to ACOS (on the radio..just the first 5-6 mins of it) and I didnt pay much attention.I already knew that band was really promising. All the metal magazines, here, were praising DT bigtime. So I bought Images and Words, listened to it and said "What the F ? This is crap! Stupid journalists." Rest is history :)

The following opinion was recently offered:
>However, I would NOT recommend ordering from him. While he's got the >best prices around, he doesn't seem to keep much in stock and if he's out >of something he doesn't really bother to reorder. Plus, he seems to be >kind of rude. And what's with the $75 minimum order if you want to use a >credit card?! I'd try Dream Disc.
>Debbie
I recently ordered six discs from LE. The minimum order for credit cards has been reduced to $10 (basically one CD). He had everything in stock that I asked about, and the order arrived ten days after I placed it. It's probably best to call on the phone to order, rather than use e-mail, so that way you'll know right away if he has the items in stock. Remember, he's not exactly dealing with the most popular music in the universe, so sometimes copies of stuff might be hard to come by. I'd recommend using Laser's Edge, as well as Knights Of The Round and Pendragon. These places certainly seem to be more on the ball than the half-wits at Music Blvd, who have Fate's Warning's "Still Life," a brand new release from a semi-large label on "backorder."

Black Sabbath (original) Megadeth Pantera Slayer Soul Fly -- more bands to be announced?
The fact that this concert is even happening indicates to me that the possibility of DT showing up can't be all that remote.

<<"YES, these guys are FINALLY doing something somewhat like prog. Now I have something to listen to until DT's next album.">>
To me there are 2 kinds of progressive:
1. the shred/technical over the top stuff made popular by bands like ELP, Rush, and our own DT.
2. the more cerebral kind, that doesnt really have much shred or technical stuff, but its more of a "thinking" type music that bands like Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, and early King Crimson played.
I would DEFINITELY not consider Tool progerssive in the technical sense, but perhaps they would be considered progressive in the cerebral sense.
So, would DT be like Tool if they had started earlier? I dont think so, since Dream Theater is clearly the more technical type of progressive, not to say they dont have moments that would fit the other type (TAMP, SDV, for example, although Petrucci does tear it up a bit in the solo for TAMP). Maybe a band like Floyd would sound like Tool if they had started WAY later than they did, I really dont have doubts that they wouldnt, but I dont think DT would sound like them. my 2 cents.

Well, I believe that he uses them, as I've heard people describe him at gigs with "drumsticks taped to his fingers." Whether or not they work probably depends on the amount of practice you put in with them. I would think a bassist would probably want to take a look at anything that Tony Levin has pioneered and endorses.

Hey drummers, (hehehe)
Here is a fool proof way to dampen that nasty, boomy kick drum.
Start with a completely closed bass drum. drill a 1/4" hole in the very top of the body. Fill the entire drum cavity with expanding foam.
This is a sure fire way to get that 50's kick drum sound. Doh!

Folks:
I would like to find out what band (if any) that DC Cooper sings for? I think he has an incredible voice, and really makes a difference in the track "New World Order". Doesn't he sing in most of that track? It sounds like it to me. I only hear Mike Baker a few times....
As for LaBrie's part: I noticed it RIGHT away. It was obvious to me, since his voice is so much stronger than Baker's.
Well, take care, Jon

D.C. Cooper sings for Royal Hunt, a melodic metal band (with emphasis on symphonic keyboards, but still fairly heavy). He's on their latest (and IMHO finest) album, "Paradox", and the very good previous album, "Moving Target." He's also on their live album "1996" in Japan, and the live "Paradox" tour video. "Paradox" is a very fine concept album about trying to understand God and higher powers. Cooper does a great job on all of these albums, and you should definitely look into one of them.

ARGH, this is completely NDTC. Could somebody please e-mail me something to undelete a file in Win95? I just accidentally deleted my entire meg and a half Excel spreadsheet full of everything Scarred-related (every customer since October...) I found something called Recover 4 All but it doesn't undelete things over 10kb in the non-registered version, and I don't feel too safe sending my credit card number to some guy in Germany for it.
I'm dying here.. Maybe if somebody had an old MS-DOS 5 or 6 undelete.exe that I could try... Which probably won't work because I don't have the right version of DOS. I don't know what to do right now.. I'm running frantic. Please help. =)

Good news. It's being reissued by a small indie label (not Enigma, who originally released it). I can't remember which label, but they distribute through R.E.D. (Relativity, the Sony-owned indie distributor). Got the info from a friend of mine who works there.
Along those same lines, Relativity will be re-issuing the old Combat Records catalog. So if you loved your 80's thrash (and who didn't :) ) you can once again get your hands on these:
Dark Angel - Darkness Descends Exodus - Pleasures of the Flesh Forbidden - Twisted Into Form Possessed - Beyond The Gates Possessed - Seven Churches Agnostic Front - One Voice Ludichrist - Powertrip Ludichrist - Immaculate Deception Crumbsuckers - Life of Dreams Crumbsuckers - Beast On My Back Megadeth - Killing Is My Business (don't know if it will still contain the These Boots... cover) .. and many more.

I know I'm a bit late on this, but in case anyone's interested, more help on how to stop Winamp from skipping when you scroll/move/resize other windows can be found in (surprise!) Winamp's help section. I quote:
Problem: Output skips or jerks when scrolling windows in other applications. Diagnosis: Videocard is stealing bus bandwidth from soundcard. Solution: Read http://www.winamp.com/docs/vgakills.txt
I'll save you a few seconds by telling you that when you go to the above URL all you'll find is "Please see: http://www.tiac.net/users/auldwrks/vgakills.htm"
And sorry for the NDTC... but you should be used to that by now, heheh.
