Does someone knows which program I have to use to copy a live album.? Someone mentioned a program but I can't remember who. I have the easy CD creator and the Sony software.

    Thank you!

It's been near two months since Powermad '98 and nobody I've talked to has seen hide nor hair of the promised Powermad 3-CD compilation discs. Dunno about all of you other 'Jammers who attended, but I'm pissed. I paid an extra $10 for a ticket in good faith, told I would receive the aforementioned compilation. What did I get? Nada.

Basically, the way I see it, it's the compilation album or a $10 refund. I understand he works hard to put this thing on (though not nearly hard enough if I were to voice my opinion...), but that's no reason he shouldn't be held accountable for ripping people off.

To anyone else with a similar concern, I suggest E-mailing and/or calling him. If you need contact info, drop me a line -- I've got it relatively handy.

Somebody had asked about Levin's funk fingers. Essentially, they're the equivalent of sawed-off drumsticks that attach to the bassist's fingers.

The story is an interesting one about thier invention. When Levin toured with ABWH, he had trouble capturing Squire's trademark picking Rickenbacher sound for the classic Yes stuff. He borrowed two of Bruford's drumsticks, made a few modifications, and there you have it.

How did i hear of DT? I borrowed a friends computer, and he had "Under a Glass Moon" as the opening music in Windows. (Microsoft will probably sue me now, for mentioning their product without telling everybody that Windows is copyrighted to Microshit! sorry -Microsoft!) Anyway, I asked him who played the music, and he told me it was DT! He recomended some CD's, and two weeks later I bought IAW. I was hooked.

Go to Croma Key's page and download "Colorblind", I love it! Kevin Moore is good without DT too! http://www,cromakey.com

    10/6/98 A message from Jordan

    Hey Folks,

I'm going into the studio on October 10th to do Liquid Tension #2. Everybody is geared up for another whirlwind session. Should be a blast. After that at the end of October I will go to France to work with guitarist Pierre Bensusan in a piece he is writing for choir and the two of us.

Rudess Morgenstein had a great time a few weeks ago traveling around the UK doing our concert/clinics.

    Stay tuned!

I know some of you have already seen this, but for those who haven't, here it is. Seems Tony Levin has a very British sense of humour and in John P's absence it looks like LTE are s******g bricks!!

Road Update: Oct. 14, Millbrook NY - Kiara

John's baby girl was born this morning - her name is Kiara and she is doing fine. But the band, trying to continue recording without our guitarist, is running a bit short of ideas! It's a bit like recording Music Minus One. Hopefully he'll make it back to the studio next week. Late last night we found ourselves discussing what we each like best about this studio (this is our second album here) and found that the private favorite thing of each of us was the same: the toilet paper! It's really soft!! The owner, Paul, won't tell us the brand, so I guess we'll keep coming back here to do our albums in.... comfort.

Hey all- Well yesterday a buddy of mine and I drove to Atlanta from Athens (about a 1 and half hour drive) to see Chris Degarmo, formerly of Queensryche of course, with Jerry Cantrell. We only went to see/meet/talk to Chris cause I don't know anything about Cantrell. After waiting for around 3 hours outside the venue the tour bus finally arrives and 30 minutes later Chris and the gang emerge from the bus. Chris was wearing a hat, leather jacket, these dorky looking huge sunglasses and dark jeans. Immediately, we both felt a sense of awkwardness as we introduced ourselves. He looked at us funny like, "what are you guys doing here?" I, of course, had my Mindcrime shirt on so I imagine that contributed to it, but he was so indifferent as if he didn't care at all. He did say he would be back cause they were runnin to do sound check, but he sure didn't act thrilled.

After waiting another half hour and then another half hour of watching Chris talking to a security guard, looking back at us and turning back around with no recognition he finally walks down the stairs towards us. Once again, he said very little as my friend and I attempted to ask him some questions. After a couple of standard questions like "We drove out here to see you Chris", with no response I might add, my friend Mike began to ask him the following: "So what was it like...?" At the moment Chris cut him off, gave him the stare from hell and said, "We're not going to talk about any of that!" (meaning Queensryche related information of course) If only there had been a picture taken at that moment cause our faces musta been in complete shock. Stuggling, we tried to ask him a couple of other things but at that moment it all seemed in vain. Thirty seconds later Chris says: "Well I'm going to head back to the bus." This after he'd only been there around a minute. We slowed him down some to get a couple of things signed and managed to get a few pictures snapped, but overall this was a terrible experience for me.

Considering this was my first experience meeting a member/former member of the band which started me down my metal highway I was extremely dissapointed and in shock. I realize the guy's not in QR anymore, but his indifference was not needed. What I realize now is that something did go down between him and the rest of the members of QR, but its something we'll never know. Chris did say he still got along with the rest of the guys, BTW. He may be struggling with his life or whatever, but that just didn't excuse his actions in my opinion. In conclusion, I felt yesterday as I tried to converse with Chris that I truly was looking into "The Eyes of A Stranger".

Sorry for being harsh, but it seems to me Chris was thinking, "Stalkers!" Think about it, someone drives three hours and waits around for someone they don't even know to show up to say hi! And you didn't even plan on seeing the show??? That's nuts! I bet he was asking the security guard to keep an eye out for his safety. Yeah, you could say he was a dick, but get a life!

Madonna, Dance?? Hummm... I'd call it pop, even though some of the stuff she's released is Dance, but when I think of Dance, I can't help but remember the following names: Technotronics, DJ Bobo, Aqua, Gloria Stefan etc. But it's been quite a while since I last heard some Dance Music, so this is the reason why the list is this stripped down.

    > New Wave - Blondie, Depeche Mode, New Order, etc. > New Age - Andreas Vollenweider (sp?), Shadowfax

You forgot two important exponents of New Age: Loreena McKennit and Enya.

    > Heavy Metal - AC/DC, Judas Priest, UFO, Black Sabbath > Progressive - Rush, Zappa, Dixie Dregs, Queesnryche

Zappa is not progressive. Or, at least, in the usual sense. In a very broad sense, he might be classified as that, but if we start allowing many (often diverging) meanings to a given word, then it will lose its usefulness, since it won't serve the purpose of precisely describing the ideas of the speaker.

Zappa has done much more than progressive rock.

    > AOR - Stones, Billy Joel, Bob Seger > Glam - Kiss, Warrant, Poison, Twisted Sister, Quite Riot

Humm... Let's label it a little further. :-) I'll limit my list of bands to a line (when I reach the 80th column, I'll stop :-) ).

Prog Metal - Rush (2112/Hem/FtK era)*, Dream Theater**, Symphony X Prog Rock - Gentle Giant*, Yes*, Genesis*, ELP*, Kansas*, Jethro Tull* Italian Prog. Rock - Premiata Forneria Marconi*, Deus ex Machina Rock in Opposition - Univers Zero* Zehul - Shubb Niggurath 1st Gen. of Black Metal - Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone 2nd Gen. of Black Metal - Emperor*, Marduk, Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir Melodic Heavy Metal/Power Metal - Helloween, Angra, Gamma Ray, Rhapsody* (Brutal) Death Metal - At the Gates*, Deicide*, Cannibal Corpse (Melodic) Death Metal - In Flames*, Dark Tranquillity*, Crimson*, Carcass* (Progressive) Death Metal - Opeth** Doom Metal - The Gathering*, Amorphis, Katatonia, Solitude Aeturnus* Thrash Metal - Metallica* (KeA/RtL/MoP/AJFA), Megadeth* (PS/RiP), Slayer* "Groovy" (some would say "jazzy") Death Metal - Cynic

Since I don't know anything about punk (and its ramifications), I'll not include the categories here. Bands with asterisks are recommended ones. BTW, you can find MANY more categories of music in <www.progrock.net>, under the Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock (the emphasis in on Progressive Rock, but there are some Progressive Metal bands listed there).

BTW, remember that labels are just an instrument the industry has created to sell records to people restricting their attention to narrow types of music.

exactly! thats the problem, not only bands -in the US- have a better distribution, but the gear they buy is much cheaper too! I'm in europe and most of the instruments are imported from the states.Their price gets doubled with all these taxes, especially when it comes to guitars. You can hardly find any cheap eg. Ok, love and women does NOT take preference over music. SOMETIMES, but not anyday. Not to offend anyone (dont flame me or youll get a fully documented thesis on the subject) , but LOVE IS DEAD. There is no such thing. Women are, and always will be, evil. Evil, by definition, is anything that is at once both unreasonable and unnatural. Now, compare that definition to 90% of the chicks that you know. See? Female Jammers, dont get upset, Im sure youve got an equally sexist viewpoint on men, but, the sad thing is, thats true too.
