Hi all again!
You might read my post about the beginning of the already acknowledged
and well known SKOPJE JAZZ FESTIVAL in Macedonia. (Skopje is capitol of
Macedonia, where I live)
So, tonight is the 3-rd night presenting the famous jazz guitarist Mike
Stern, supported by:
Richie Morales - drums
Lincoln Goines - bass
Bob Malach - tenor sax
As one of the main sponsors of the jazz festival, YAMAHA today at noon
did a presentation and drum workshop. The drum workshop was done by the
drummer of Mike Stern - Richie Morales! I just returned from it! Woohoo!
Richie kicked ass, supported by very famous Macedonian keyboardist Kokan
Dimushevski (member of the truly legendary Macedonia band "Leb i Sol"
eng. "Bread & Salt")
They did some jazz jammings, on which one quite elder man jumped in with
trumpet! :) I think it was not planned, he just jumped in! :)
As on every presentation, there were some magazines, pamphlets. One of
them was Yamaha - Electric Guitars & Bases"
AND, on the last page dedicated to bases RBX, there is a quite big
picture of our beloved John Myung!!! :)))
Dark blue RBX, 6 strings,...
Seems like DT guys are slowly but surely getting attention! :)
Among others, also Billy Sheehan, Nathan East & John Patitucci are
included!

I've seen alot of stuff on odd time signatures lately and I just want to
add something. All of us have our very own and unique way of counting some
very close to traditional methods Re: 9/8 counted in groups of three. and
some off the wall wacky stuff Re: 9/8 counting
121212312 thats wacked. Anyone having problems counting odd times start
the traditional method it is almost always the best. The latter 9/8 is
just where the accents are and if you always count it that way you will be
stuck in the song Voices for every 9/8 song you play.
To finish this just learn traditionally either though a teacher or student
of music, after awhile you will develop what way will work better for you.

Wow.
This cd sure is unique.
I would $100 that 99% of the people who liked Behind will not like this
cd on the first liste. I'm as open minded as any prog listener and I
didn't even it too much on the first listen even though I knew to expect
something different. Well the good news is...
..after a few more listens this cd just gets better and better. Imagine
the heaviness and progressiveness of Behind...then combine it with many
more different styles and moods. They take so many different chances on
this cd and almost every one of them works. Some people might shy away
from the funk and swing sections but this cd is definitely a winner
overall. It's TRULY PROGRESSIVE because they're incorporating so many
different sounds and styles and effects into their music. In that aspect
it reminds me very much of Angra's Holy Land (don't misinterpret me
here...it doesn't sound at all like Holy Land, but the idea of
incorporating new sounds into standard metal is similar).
Buy it.

Hey yall! I'm wasting a lot of your time here so I'll make this quick. I
need to get a decent jazz axe (archtop, preferably NOT semi-hollow - I will
only be using it for jazz/fusion) and I need some good resources. Other
than the Chicagoland shops, I've only found one reasonably useful online
dealer of used jazz axes. My range is $2K or less (preferably LESS)... Does
anyone know of any good sites that deal with the sale of such pieces? Also,
beyond playability and sound, does anyone know of any important things to
watch for when buying an archtop?
Currently looking at the Ibanez PM100, a few Gibson 175's and one sweet
Yamaha with a piezo and neck mounted pickup.
Thanks!

and one time signature that i noticed : 1/4 . that's a rare one. one
beat,
quarter note gets the beat. you know how it goes. another one is
6/4...count
it in 6/8 actually. 12 3 45 6.
then the classic 7/8 that David Holsinger ( a good composer for concert
bands
) uses. then the usual 2/4. 3/4 . 4/4. 5/4. 6/4 ...and so on. the other
rare
one is 5/12, or if you really want to baffle your audience...try 12/8 .
( its
in 4 actually ).
Wait, wait, wait...I'm a little confused. Can someone please explain
5/12 time...and tell me what the heck a 12th note is??

Here goes my stupid question, is the video and the live CD out already?
I just got chroma key last week, quite different from what I thought it
was, but it was slow and dark as I thought it was going to be...
it's a little short though, I was expecting something near 70 minutes

well, actually for 9/8, it actually has a triplet feel, so it would be more like ONE 2 3 FOUR 5 6 SEVEN 8 9 (or one la li, two la li, three la li) pretty much any meter with the top number divisible by three will have a triplet feel. another ex. is 6/8 having two beats with the triplets (one la li two la li).

Uh....could you please EXPLAIN this "rare" -ie: nonexistant -time signature of 5/12 you speak of? Funny how in 12 years of musical education, including a degree from Berklee, I've never come across it. What is a 12th note? That would have to exist in order for your 5/12 to be. Please enlighten us... And 12/8 is baffling??? What's so tricky about 123 456 789 101112??

Though it is true that most 9/8 is counted in three groups of three, as someone pointed out, this particular time sig sounds really wicked when subdivided differently. Check out Blue Rondo a la Turk by Dave Brubeck. It's a real fast 9/8 counted 1-2 1-2 1-2 1-2-3. Or, somewhat closer to home, the beginning of Voices is also an oddly subdivided 9/8 . Did any of you guys notice all the fucknuts on the Awake tour trying to headbang when they started playing this? I clearly recall seeing a sea of sweaty heads frantically bobbing along, and then that extra eighth note throws 'em all off. It takes a few seconds for them to re-orient themselves in the groove, the head bobs, maybe twice, before the phrase resolves again, and said fucknuts are lost once more. Most amusing :) --an aural hand

If female jammers get upset, then please accept my condolences, but I doubt you could disagree with me. Its all a game. All of it. All a senseless worthless petty game that we all have to play because its buried deep in our genetic code. As much as I hate it, Ill play it again and again and again until there's nothing but ashes left of the heart I used to have.
Maybe John and Rena Petrucci are really happy and in love. I dont know him personally but I do love his music and am happy to know about their newest addition to their family. See, they played the game and won. I played the game and lost.
These personal musings of mine have no place on the Ytsejam so Ill stop writing now.

Isn't swearing banned on this list anyway? While I don't nessecarily agree with my love-scarred friend, I can definitly see his point; which was, in case you missed it, that if he had a choice between music and 'pussy', that he would pick music. And I totally agree with that, music doesn't cheat on me or let me down, music is the only thing that constantly gives me joy and happiness. THAT was the point of his post, and I hate it when people jump down the throat of someone who has the balls to say that love isn't all flowers and candy. LOVE STINKS! It (usually) causes nothing but heartache, depression, bad grades, and billions of other negative connotations. So I'm sorry to say, but music blows love out of the water. What I don't agree with is that all love is dead. I know plenty of people that have found love in one way or another, and it _does_ exist, although it is rare. The truth is that 99.8% of all women are bitches, and you just have to sloth through all the crap in order to find the One that will make you happy. (I will now pause for a tear to well up)
If love didn't suck, we wouldn't have the majority of our songs anyway!
