Much like the tone I adopted back in the "do we owe Dream Theater anything"
days of yore, I think this whole "we're so sorry, Mike" thing is lame. If Mike
    P. wants to be a "normal" member of the ytsejam community, he has to navigate
the minefields like the rest of us. That includes morons flaming him and/or
making stupid accusations about him. Welcome to the club. Blatant ass-kissing
masked as posts in his defense is stupidity of the lowest order. No one (who
is not an egotistical asshole) likes to have has ass kissed ad nauseum. If
Mike decides to roll up his virtual sidewalk as a result of a few misguided
morons, well, while that would be a shame, it would also be "life."

In some of the Jammers cases, that is sad but probably true. Doesn't
    that just suck?

Mike P., I'm not quite sure what happened here (I missed several jams),

Yah, I've never really considered Mike to be a "normal" member. He just lurks around and gives us up to date info on what's going down. Can't say that I blame him fo anything. Of anyone, he has to avoid taking sides in any argument (a la 5/12 sigs) since if he actually did, he'd risk souring a few people in the attempt of proving his point. No matter who is right or wrong (if possible) there are always those that will consider another to be an absolute idiot if they don't take their side. If you know what I mean. That doesn't mean, however, that he doesn't read our posts and make certain judgements about any of us. :)

You see: KorgX3 hanging around the back door to the Saltaire in SLC, Utah. You see: Mike Portnoy emerge from said door and greet KorgX3 enthusiastically. You hear: "Hey Mike, would you mind autographing this CD? Just put, to my dear friend KorgX3, you rok nadz and stuff, Mike Portnoy) You see: Mike Portnoy flinch, make a sour look at KorgX3, and reach for his boxing gloves...

I dunno about any of you, but I think I'd enjoy deliberately pissing James off trying to sneak around for a peek at his ass. :) -- KorgX3 thinks James is a fucking jukebox, with a nice ass of course. :)

As I reflect upon the coolness of all things Rush, the DJ casually announces that he's got a copy of the new Rush, Different Stages Live, AND he's going to play some of it right now! A wild whoop of joy reverberates from the walls of my office. Then, as Wild Koba might put it, I was anally raped. He played 5 seconds of audience noise, then stopped the CD, saying smugly, "OK...I just played some of it." What a cocksmoker. Kindly forgive my venting. --an aural hand>>>>>>>

That sucks. I feel bad because I was listening to the radio in the car the other evening, and I actually had the thought of "Gee, the new live Rush album should be getting some play time pretty soon; I wish I could here some." Having thought that, I turned my dial to 100.7 WZLX (Boston's classic rock) and what should my disbelieving ears hear but the tail end of (a clearly *live* performance of) "Presentation" (Part IV of Rush's "2112" for those who don't know); I had managed to catch ZLX in the middle of playing 2112 in its entirety, off of Different Stages (as was soon clear by the fact that "Oracle: The Dream" was included). I was as pleased as punch. I await with anticipation equalling that for Once in a LIVEtime.

Anyway, I've said all I'm gonna say on the subject. Agree or not, it's quite obvious that 12th notes don't exist.

Well Im glad at least some of us get it. Hey, great explination, but just so no one gets confused, in 6/8 there are two beats and a dotted quarter gets the beat, not an eighth. :) ---

    >Anyway, the woman said "Forget 7-16, check DIS." and she signaled to >some guys on her right and began what was a repeating pattern of 5 >hits, with every 12th hit being accented by her accompanying conga >drummers. Keep in mind, the only way this was consciously...blah blah >blah... --

Great story, but that still wasn't 5/12 time. Measures of five notes played over and over again with an accent every 12 notes is simply 5/8 time with an accent every 12 8th notes. Or 5/16 with the accents, or 5/4 or 5/32 or 5/64...get the point? Do you even know why we have a system of music notation???! So we can write down coherent music! If you want to disregard this and just play whatever you want, more power to ya! But if you are ever going to write any music at all, I suggest you brush up on your theory. Otherwise no one is going to know what you are babbling about. Okay, NOW I'm done.

Well, I for one LOVE the new DT font. Don't really care for the cover, though... I wish they'd go back to the epic style like IAW and Awake.

And did I mention that quite some time ago, I decided that UACM was the best DT site anyway? So it only seemed logical it would later be designated the official site. And Mark is like the only person I know of who really tries to keep things updated...

The point is that certain things are simply theoretically impossible in the limits of our physical way of life as with our systems of communication. We would need to rewrite history and our entire system of life as we know it 2 change that. Were we aliens with a completely different world, this would all be different. But we're here - on Planet Earth. Like it or not.

..And I just KNOW OIALT is going 2 B #1 on that top 20 contest!

Well, yeah, the Mesa TriAxis is a preamp. BUT, you have to understand that in this realm of merchandise you really DO get what you pay for. A simple, full-on Mesa component system is gonna cost you $2000-$4000 dollars. Yer talking $1400 for the TriAxis, either $700 for the Mesa 50/50 power amp or another $1400 for the simul-class 2:90, and then getting a good 4x12 which will usually run you between $500 and $800. My preference in speaker cabs is the cabs equipped with celestion 30s. Their sound really has some bite to it. Basically, the best one's I've seen are the Marshall 1960 cab, the Crate blue voodoo (make SURE it's celestion equipped), and the Mesa Rectifier cab. The latter you can ever get bulletproofed for some damn reason :) I'd say try out a whole batch of preamps and power amps, while still not ruling out the great amp heads on the market. Amp heads are not as versatile, usually, but the good ones make up for it with some kickass tone, especially the Mesa Dual Rectifier IMO. When I bought my preamp, I tried out the ADA MP-1, the Marshall JMP-1, the Mesa TriAxis, the Rocktron Voodoo Valve, the Rocktron Chameleon, the Mesa V-Twin, and the Rocktron Pirhanna (along w/ some really cheesy ones that I won't bother to mention). I must say I dig the super high gain sound of the Pirhanna the best of all of them, and I thought the TriAxis had the best clean tone I'd ever heard. However, I decided to buy the Chameleon because the tone was really rich and it had more bang for the buck than anything else I tried out (being priced around $700 when I bought it). I really did not like the ADA or the Marshall when I played through them, but I've heard many recordings where they sounded awesome. Like Metallica's black album or Megadeth's Youthanasia, for example. As for power amps, I used to like solid state because of the long-term durability and low maintenance, but they compromise the sound too much. About two years ago or so I became a staunch believer in the tube god, Valvus ((c) Eckie creations, 1997). Now, I won't play anything BUT all-tube power amps. My mesa 50/50 sounds incredible.

    See ya laterz!

Peace and love, and good happiness stuff, ~Vince

The post to which this man refers was about 12th notes. It wasn't about time signatures. Somehow he thought I was talking about the 5/12 issue when the post was about 12th notes. ???

    Then Correct Man posted this:

    > And to answer the question, trumpets playing ABCDE ABCDE ABCDE... with > a cymbal crash on the 12th beat does NNOOTT make the ABCDE from the > trumpets 12th notes!!!

Again, this is in reference to something I posted. Strangely, the post Correct Man is referring to here was called "5/12 Is Easy As Pie." It was about 5/12 time, not 12th notes. 16th notes can be played in 4/4 time, yet there are no 16s in that 4/4 time signature. So what made Correct Man think that a post about 5/12 time had anything to do with 12th notes? ???
