I agree. If you've never met God, you shouldn't be allowed to believein
Him. The same goes for Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Bigfoot, etc...

Now I don't know if you were just joking around, but I've seen you be an
    ass before.

I am NOT a fucking Nazi! I would think that would be very clear the way
I attack them. I HATE Nazis.

But I love the Germans. They gave us Cusco, KMFDM, Ramms+ein, and
Tangerine Dream. And they are for the most part NOT nazis.

And you got the whole point wrong too. First of all, I believe in God.
Maybe you don't. But I would NOT enter a religious debate without
knowing anything about it. I DO, so that's why I participate.

But since I know nothing about most sports, I do not debate sports with
people. It's as easy as that.

Now, I feel a need 2 respond 2 whoever said that Mike should "stand his
own" here, and that he should have 2 deal with flames and stuff.

    WRONG!

If this were a Fates Warning list, then yes. He should get no special
    treatment.

But, as I keep trying to say, this is a list for FANS OF DREAM THEATER.
It's for people who respect and admire DT.

So then it is completely WRONG to directly insult them.

Sometimes, if you think one of them is being a jerk, sure, voice your
opinion. There's nothing wrong with saying what you believe.
It's another thing to flame them directly.

    More later, watch this space...............

I definately agree on the EMG-81. I just had one installed in my RG-550
and it gets an impressive sound, even through my Mesa subway blues.
Definately not a blues pickup, but an RG isn't used for much outside of
    the wonderful prog-rock/metal/shred/distorted-musical-explosion category
of music (however the hell we define it.)

i was browsing through the liner notes of OiaL, and i noticed, in the thanks
part, where all the band members thank their wives and children... derek
only thanks "george sherinian". aha! can you say... hootenanny?!? i knew
    it!!! moo.

p.s. since it seems i have to include these in order to avoid pissing off
more people than normal, this is the official "i'm kidding" disclaimer. i
know george is probly dereks father or brother or sumfin, and since i'm
trying to kill any reason anyone might have for flaming me, i have nothing
wrong with hootenannies either. don't think there was anything else even
mildly offensive about that... i'm sure someone will find something tho :)

Forgive me if this is in a FAQ somewhere, but if it is, I have missed
    it...

I have a copy of the Lie single that is labeled "For Promotional Use
Only", it is in the cardboard "DigiPak" and has only the song "Lie" on
it. The CD it self has the Majesty symbol printed on it.

Is this CD worth more than the "non-Promotional" CD. or is it just
    another single?

    THANKS!

When still life was found sitting in my mailbox, I emmitted some kind of
weird noise (internally, of course, since there were people
around)......i was genuinely looking forward to hearing Fates Live.....I
have a couple of tapes fromm the apsog tour, and saw the show myself on
two occasions, but dammit, it's fates live, and it kicks all ass.....

of course, I hadn't heard any of IGOD live, so there was that huge thing
to look forward to.....I'd never heard a two-guitar fates attack in any
kind of live version, because (and the contents of my mailbox might
prove me a liar, since i haven't checked that edifice in a day or two),
before still life was released, I had but two Fates bootlegs (the
    aforementioned apsog tapes)

that ain't the case with Dream Theater. I have enough, strike that, more
than enough material from the FII tour to satisfy me (all of two items,
take that as you may) and my DT craving.....I had OiaL preordered from
one of the on-line places, then I went back and tried to use the ten
dollar discount y'all mentioned earlier this week.....I picked up Live
after Death (2 disc, enhanced version) to replace my long-lost and
lamented cassette) and when they suggested I combine orders to save
shipping charges and I discovered that the sum total was more than
separate purchases (because i lost the roadie quiz discount :( I had to
drop one of those items, LaD or OiaL

    Oial didn't make the cut

now, if you're smart, or otherwise recall the terms of the ten dollar
discount, you'll realize that that isn't as heinous a call as it seems,
and you'll keep flamage to a minimum, or reasonable fascimile thereof.

but then i started thinking about it, and i realized that I might have
made the same call, regardless of $20 minimum purchase rules inherent in
    the $10 discount......

and i think this is why: I've already heard most of what I'm going to
    get in Once in a Livetime......sure, it's better quality, sure, it's a
special show, special setting, but apart from a few good moments, I've
heard the stuff on boots, or I've seen it at the two shows I've been
    fortunate to see DT play

sorta reminds me of when ACOS came out, with those of us who'd heard the
earlier version comparing it to the EP version, and finding one or the
other better.......at the time, I couldn't decide whether having that
comparison availble to me, beforehand, was good or not.....i ended up
thinking that it didn't matter, I was damn glad to have new Dream
    Theater available to me........

but that was.....geeez.....over three years ago

my DT fandon was less than half as old as it is now, and my ytsejam
existence (and therefore access to boots) was barely 6 months old

Even though I had heard ACoS, I was still as hyped as anyone over the
EPs release......and that's just not the case with OiaL

I'm not sure whether that has more to do with the argument I'm hinting
at here (i've heard it on the boots, therefore, i can't get exceited
over the same old stuff) or the fact that FII has worn very badly for
me, failing to hit last years top 5 in my head, rarely if ever getting
spun these days.......maybe it's just the material that doesn't get me
    going?

then again, it could just be a familiarity crisis, who knows?

I want to make absolutely clear that said bootlegs are not going to stop
me from buying OiaL, of that, there ain't no doubt......but maybe I'm
just not excited about it as I might have been had I had no other
experience with DT live outside of those two shows and what they put
    out on record........

In my last post about Black Sabbath, I made a

"Black Sabbath Featuring Tony Iommi" CD, and
not Ray Gillen. Ray Gillen had his vocals on
The Eternal Idol and they were substituted by
Tony Martin (am I the only one that thinks
Tony Martin actually does kick ass?).

    an echolyn video :)

apparently, when they were touring back in 95, their detroit stop was
captured for a cable show), a few minutes of it anyway (maybe 30?) and I
am now the happy posessor of such a tape......

man, that came in way handy at 3 am, after I finally got done doiniig
somethinig I had idiotically believed i could finish by 11 PM, and
realized that I had better stay at my lab/classroom building all night
rather than walk the streets of detroit city at 3 am.....

the lounge has a pool table and a VCR equipped big ole TV, and I was a
happy camper, or as happy as I could be going on 32 hours sans
sleep.....(did i mention that i was an idiot for watching the video and
staying awake all night rather than trying to catnap in the lounge??)

anyway, there is one more musically related note to this wallowing
exercise in self-pity......the guy who hooked me up with said tape is in
a band of his own, the Detroit-based House of Usher. Richard Kaczynski
on keys (my stats prof from last winter, of all things), Mark Evans,
formerly of Tiles on drums, and three other guys whose names i can't
recall right now (see the part above about lack of sleep).....anyway,
the prof was nice enough to add a few minutes of a House of Usher
performance at the end of the tape, some cool, early ELP-ish (in the
interest of defining a nice-pigeonhole for all you label obsessed freaks
out there) type of sounds from what little i heard.....of course, in the
prog realm, a few minutes is as likely as not to be a single song.....

House of Usher just got done mastering their CD, the prof held off
giving me a cd-r of the rough mix becausue the mastering apparently
worked wonders, but I'll be sure to tell you about it when I get my
hands on it....he mentioned something about a January official
    release.....

    Hey ytsejammers!

It's time for all you "old-timers" with the gigantic collections to
put in your votes! Submit a list of your Top 20 all-time favorite
    recordings.

The survey will run until Oct. 31, 1998. Results will be posted on the
ytsejam and on a DT website, where we can reference them when anybody
    wants a recommendation.

    Send your list to: ytse_classics@yahoo.com

    Example list (Artist - Title):

Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
    Deep Purple - Machine Head
Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
    Dream Theater - Awake
    Metallica - Ride the Lightning
    Metallica - Master of Puppets
Metallica - ...And Justice for All
    Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith
    Megadeth - Rust in Peace
    Sanctuary - Refuge Denied
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
    Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
    Queensryche - The Warning
    Rush - 2112
    Sepultura - Chaos A.D.
Symphony X - The Divine Wings of Tragedy
    Tool - Undertow
    Testament - The Legacy
Wagner - Der Ring des Nibelungen

It usually works best to make a large list over several days, and then
narrow it down to 20 before you submit the list. This may keep you
    from forgetting something.

    One list per person.
    List each recording only once.
Order of the list does not matter. Each recording will get one point.

Don't send your list to the ytsejam! Once again, send to:
    ytse_classics@yahoo.com

    Jam on!

Ok. very cool site indeed...... Nice Pictures, lay-out, info, tips, but..... "only 3 days until the release"? Well when will that be then? I have had my very own copy right here for almost 2 days now.... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well I can tell you..... This live-album is a breakthrough in live-album-history..... It is a lesson in NOT playing your songs exactly like you did on your albums, but playing 'em the way you feel like, fool around with 'em, basically "play" the audience, and let people still be able to know what's going on up there.... This is THE ultimate live album so far....... So even when you think you have all the songs of these killah dudez..... you don't! There is so much going on on the album.... You just have to have it.....

Let me do a Ytsejam, DT fan, mad man -forecast...... I myself have in my band a singer pretty simulair to James..... I know that the kind of singing James does, is a kind of not being able to sing everything the same way everytime (isn't that what we love about him?).... Though I predict James' reward for being very honest, and not fuck around with his vocals in a studio, will be that you lot will be complaining your asses off about a little note here and there that wasn't completely in tune..... Well in advance I'd like to say to James: You did superb, and I'm sure there's nobody out there that can do it better than you... That's why YOU are the DT-singer....!!!!
