    Hey there Matt....

You should know that the panning is not wrong, but the band is giving us a peek onstage.... This pan-setting is just the way Mike is experiencing it from behind the drums........ Cool he?

Kirk must have listened to some Hades, because they had that riff back in the 80's. I think it was the song "Rape of Persephone" - but it was the exact same riff years earlier. I guess this could be one of those 1000 Ptaceks typing or 101 Bafus throwing pixie sticks in an infinite pattern, but I am suspicioius of all things Metallica (We'll never make a music video.)

    Hey there,

In the JP instructional vid, JP gives us a good look at his setup. This includes some parameter pedals. Are these MIDI? If so, can somebody P-LEASE tell me what make they are so I can get one.

As far as I know, Digitech used to make a MIDI parameter pedal but they've informed me that they do not manufacture this any more.

I already have a single parameter pedal on my RP-10 but I would like some extra control, and alls I can find to do the job is a little box made by Anatek that you hook up to a volume pedal.

    SOMEBODY must know!

    thanx guys,

    Paul

    >I went to www.mp3.com and found out that there's a MP3 player, does anyone >knows how does it works?

Basically, the MP3 players are solid state devices. They use flash memory and expandable memory to hold your MP3's on a device that is smaller than your old early 80's Sony walkman. They don't skip, scratch, wear out, etc. So far, only three companies have announced their plans to produce such devices: Diamond Multimedia, Samsung, and Saehan. Currently, however, Diamond is tied up in a lawsuit by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) that is preventing their Rio MP3 player from being released saying it is a violation of some Audio Home Recording Act. Samsung, however isn't worried at all as the restrictions Diamond is facing marketing an MP3 player in America don't apply to most other places in the world. Samsung will gladly skip over America and sell elsewhere. If you read the news articles at http://www.mp3.com/ it will give you a good insight as to the competition on landing the first MP3 player on the streets. In addition, Samsung's player is expected to have a microphone input. I know that would make alot of bootleggers happy as these things will be smaller and less expensive than their DAT's. :)

Anyway, none of the devices they describe appeal to me, as they only support up to around 38MB to 54MB currently (which is only about 38 to 54 minutes of music). I was hoping the first MP3 player on the market would read from a CD, which can hold approximately 130 songs in MP3 format. :) Ah, well, what else are computers for? :)

Because you asked... -- KorgX3 BTW, the specs of the Diamond Rio are at http://www.mp3.com/news/096.html

Motley Crue is suppossed to be playing live at WWF RAW on Monday night. I guess a couple of the guys are wrestling freaks. Also, they will be on CONAN on Wednesday.

I picked up SENTENCED's 'Frozen'. It definitly picks up where 'Down' left. Anyone into very MELODIC heavy metal should pick this up. Also, the order form from CENTURY MEDIA has a ton of bands now. I guess they distribute for a lot of companys. You can get ANGRA, SYMPHONY X, as well as a ton of other imports for $11!!!

KISS is on Saturday, I paid a arm and a leg for the show so it better be good.

Last night was a crazy night in Boulder... two places to see shows, one with Al DiMeola, the other with P4. Tough choice, but having already seen DiMeola (with Stanley Clarke and Jean Luc Ponty) a few years ago, had to go catch my idol, Mr. Tony Levin, with a few of his Crim buds.

What a show it was! P4 features Tony Levin, Pat Mastoletto, Trey Gunn, and Robert Fripp. It's hard to pin down guys like Levin and Gunn, but taking into mind the double trio, I wondered going in how they would function together. For the most part, Levin held down a more traditional rhythm-oriented bass role, while Gunn stayed more high-end. He played his Warr guitar exclusively, and was prominently featured in all of the... songs, I guess. Fripp played a lot of guitar synth, a la his Soundscapes, and began the second half of the show with quintessential frippertronics. Levin was his usual versatile self, playing his 5-string (with the much-discussed funk fingers) to open the show, then moving between the Chapman Stick and electric upright for the bulk, before suprising me and finishing up on Warr guitar.

Truly an incredible show... and the encore of Vrrooom made the night. And I picked up the new Trey Gunn "The Third Star" and Fripp's "The Gates of Paradise" when I left, as an added bonus.

In other news... whoever descibed the new King's X "Tapehead" as a cross between "Dogman" and "Ear Candy" was right on the money. I wasn't crazy about much of "Ear Candy"--I thought the music had lost an edge. "Tapehead" incorporates less of their 3-part harmonies than any other KX recording in the past, though there's still plenty there. The hard edge is back, but with a fuller, lusher sound. Good stuff.

Oh, lastly... I lent my copy of "Twilight in Olympus" to a friend, who provided probably the best description of any band I've heard. He called them "The Platonic Form of Metal."
