I just received it... so far so.. GREAT!

Just one question, is Joey vera NOT a full time member of fates?
I ask this cuz on the liner notes, everyone gets 2 pages of pics for each
guy, and Joey only gets 1/3 of a single page shared with the extra guitar
player and the keyboard player ( not full time members )

so thats it now! DT do us the favour and release a wonderful live double album, and some people (no names, no flames :) ) prefer to buy mydyingbride stuff instead. hmm. this really makes me sad. and i also dont understand those people. not buying cds means no support. then you ask why we dont have dt on the radio/tv (hell beware!). if even fans are not willing to buy albums? where is this gonna lead to? it really sounds frightning when so called dt fans claim their shows to be static and not very exciting. are you a fan or not? i really like OIAL, and i am sure a lot of others will. and even if you have thousands of boots (which is cool, id love to have more as well) the official release is the thing the band gets money from. and i think the new live album is also a good thing for those new to dt, because its (except for the missing WDADU, btw, i can understand that they get bored of playing that stuff, doing PMU a 1000 times live already must also be boring) representative for what theyve done up to now. for the fans it gives a cool live experience in high quality sound (btw, i noticed that the drummers perspecitve mix is cool, cos now i get to hear Petrucci better- when listening to in the carhifi!!!). another thing for the live shows. as far as i remember dt have played every song they ve ever written (except for one or two) live. so there has to be some changes. and hell - the medley at the end always gets me! if you want more diversity on stage, go to a free jazz gig. >That's what's always attracted me to "jam" >bands like Widespread Panic. You never see the same show twice. Hell, yeah! Widespread kicks ass! They're playing here in Austin this tuesday. It kinda sucks, though, 'cause I'm the only one of my friends who likes them, and my friends aren't going to pay $25 to see a band they don't listen to. oh, well. maybe I'll go by myself to unwind after my english midterm. but damn, I also have to watch 5YiaL and listen to OiaL, so I'm gonna be busy that day.

This comment came right out of left field. As soon as I saw a comment that Silverfuck sounded like a Tool song that didnt quite make it onto Aenima, I popped in Siamese Dream. As a previous hardcore SP fan that has all their B-sides and everything ever put out by them basically, I can say that no way would I ever think this. Tool's style is much more distinctive... much more unpredicatble than intro-prechorus-chorus-bridge-chorus-outro. I guess thats what makes it a bit progressive. Don't get me wrong, I love the Pumpkins (until Adore anyway), but if Billy Corgan ever wrote a song in 7/8, he'd spontaneously combust trying to play it, and James Iha would have a brain hemmorage. However, both bands have great drummer. Im sure Im gonna get it for posting this, but I couldn't resist.

Adam Pye likes more 'jam-related' bands for the same reason I like DT.

I don't know - I have neither the time nor is it really worth the hassle for me to see a band, say, six or seven times on any given tour. Once is great, maybe twice. If most of DT's shows in any one given stretch of time are similar, it's no big deal - they are still a band that is CONSTANTLY messing with arrangements, treating nothing as untouchable (Alice's Tool Gargen, anyone?), and that's what I love about them.

Think of Rush. For years I lived near Chicago and had the opportunity to see them two nights in a row on any given tour. Each night, we got EXACTLY the same show WITHOUT funky arrangements or any spontineity whatsover. Still one of the all-time great live bands, but they are even more removed from the 'jam' mentality than DT. (Having said all that, I do however think that the TFE tour was probably the best I've ever seen them).

    Buy OiaL!!!!!!! And the video!!!!!!!!

Hey, I'm just wondering. I've noticed a number of people on here and the Mirror List posting "OiaLT is out!!" and so on, and telling us about it. Thing I don't understand is, according to the website and both record stores I go to (Tower Records and Newbury Comics), it's not out until tuesday, Oct. 27th (or Monday at midnight, at Tower). How are you people getting it? Connections? Bootlegs? Just curious. Thanks. By the way, regarding the live Fates disc, it sounds awesome. Some of Ray's high notes aren't there in Ivory Gate of Dreams and 11th Hour, but then again that's quite understandable. What he does instead sounds cool. The mix is pretty good, and they have good energy. I reccomend it to Fates fans.

    Hey, jammerz!

Recently I was cleaning up my hard drive and realized that DT mp3's took up about 800megs of the space, not too much though, but still this space might be very useful, so I decided to make an audio CD with some of the songs I have there - why audio? - A lot of my friends have been very willing to hear this stuff, but were unable, because not all of them have PC's and not all of those who have have he web-access... - so I decided to make this CD. Needless to say that only a small part of the songs got to the CD, but volumes 2 and 3 are to follow. For those who are interested, here's the track-listing of the CD: 1. Your Majesty 2. A Vision 3. March of the Tyrant 4. Two Far 5. Cry for Freedom 6. Freeport Jam 7. Solar Groove (dan, this song is AWESOME!!!) 8. LSOAD (acoustic) 9. Cover my eyes 10. Hollow Years 11. Speak to me 12. TWIUTB 13. JLMB

of course you gather that all these songs are either life or some kind of a demo. I am now thinking of the conents for the next CD - have any suggestions?

I've just had a call from my wife and my OIAL has arrived from CDNOW, the frustration? - I have to wait until tonight before I get to hear it and the video hasn't been shipped yet!

Ok, I've just been to Yes World (http://www.yesworld.com) and they are doing a survey of fans. All they want to know is who would be a good support act for the next tour....hmmmm...who do you think I voted for? I don't know if DT would do it or even if they would be suitable as an opener for Yes, but it doesn't hurt to vote.

    Cheers,

Dave (a UK jammer - now in Alabama).

Hey, I've heard that there are some rack processors/pedalboards that can be put into the effects loop of an amp and it lets you switch amp channels with the effects patch. Ive heard Rocktron has something like this. If anyone can recommend some really good processors/ pedalboards like this (perhaps one with a volume pedal) that can get me the basic chorus/delay/reverb/phaser sounds and not eat away too much amp tone, I'd really apriciate it (private e-mail is ok). Thanks.

Hopefully, you'll be picking up an official release as well, since if you don't, many of the YtsePolice will be coming to knock your door down, take your wallet, and take the money that would have been used to buy an actual copy, and then systematically beat you with a wet noodle until you start seeing 12th notes dancing around your head.....
