Get outta here! :) Joe does amazing job on Cool #9. As someone said on
the guitarists thread, this man can really get a sound out of his
instrument. He might not be technical monster as Vai but boy he play
that guitar!
And Eric Johnson - I LOVE his G3 stuff! I never heard of him before and
I liked him very much when I heard him on G3. His music is very cool,
kinda jazzy, and he has very interesting playing tecnique! The man is a
genius. I read Vai comment on him while rehearsing for the G3 tour - he
said that Eric is really a master!
Anyone knew that "Going down" is old song? I heard it on Jeff Beck Group
album, but I', not sure if this is Beck's song! Anyone can enlighten us?
And I LOVE Zappa's "My guitar wants to kill your mama"!!!!! Great cover!
And great tribute to Zappa!
Hey, does anyone knows if bigger selection from G3 is available
somewhere? I always thought they selected TOO LITTLE songs. First, the
album could've been longer, and second, what the heck, it could be
double CD!!! 3 differenmt musicians, bonus all together jam = worth
double album! And I doubt it wouldn't sell! :)
C'mon, just 3 songs from each? :( Too little as far I'm concerned.
One friend's idea: Maybe on Vai's upcoming boxset there will be some
more G3 songs. It DOES sound logical! Anyone knows somehting about it,
and which EXACTLY unreleased stuff will be on the boxset! I have a HUGE
personal wish: Tracks from the "Crossroads"!!!! Please someone post this
if he knows. I would LOVE to hear the "Head Cuttin' Duel"!! :)))))
Wooohoooo!
> Great to hear that OIAL also... er... er... "kicks ass". :-)
> Shame that it doesn't seem to show up in my country.
> Neither will "Platypus". I hate this country.
No, I HATE MINE! :)
Seems like I'll lay my hands on OIAL in 2,3 months! Until then, drop
dead while collecting jammers' jaws from the floor when they describe
OIAL! :(((

I was wondering if someone could help me get a transcript of the Sonicnet chat (which will be in exactly three hours from now, if you're in bounce mode)... I would be there myself if it wasn't at 3 am my time, and if I didn't have to get up at 6:45 am...
Thanks :)

Hey, I got an idea today!
As far I know, Ytsejam still doesn't have some special logo, banner or something in that manner! Correct me if I'm wrong but...
Let's make a contest! All graphics designers can make something and send it to someone (maybe to Mr. Bredius or I dunno) and then all can be exposed on UACM with posibility to vote for 1! :) And the winner will be used on ALL DT realted sites as link for Ytsejam or other Ytsejam related links!
Of course, the site with the choices can bve on ANY jammer site as far as he/she accept to keep the site running!
I think it's a good idea!
There, than maybe Skadz will relax a little bit since we do something more than thinking of stupid threads! -- Later, CyberDuke

Hey,
I got OIAL from CDNOW (shipped on the 23rd, arrived on the 26th!) and my CD has "For promotional use only" on it as well (and there isn't a "2CD" sign on the case either), if this is a promo copy that would be pretty cool.

It seems as though this tune has disappeared. Hey Mike--will Raise the Knife be on the X-mas cd?!!!! Doesn't seem to be available anywhere like all the other non-released ones are. In my opinion, one of the guys' all-time best efforts. Until DT and Chicago meet again.......

I don't even know if this will get through since I am having troubles sending with Eudora Pro, but what is the fan club info, like where to send money?ave in and send in and probably use the scanner in work to read the print stuff. At 05:56 PM 10/27/98 -0800, you wrote: >One more thing, was the sax in TAMP an overdub or was Jay Beckenstein >really in Paris with DT? Sorry if this has already been covered on No, it was an overdub. Whatever happened to the Jazz teacher from England or whatever who played the sax originally? Did he just absolutely blow ass or something? :) Just curious as to why they'd plop some vintage Jay B. stuff in there. Jay B. rocks. My only complaint is that he cut off every melody just as James started singing again. It would've been nice to have him fade back as James starting singing his verse. The straight cutoff is kind of corny, IMO. It's like musical blueballs to me. >I must have been asleep. I need to renew my subscription...I think. What's >the deal???? We have to send cash to England? Has anyone tried this yet? The New York division is run by a bunch of lazy dickmunches or something, yes, and yes. I haven't heard any complaints yet about sending the $20 across the sea. Which reminds me, I have to do this rather soon! :) I been lazy about getting my membership renewed. heheh. There was another top notch release this week. It's the new CD by the Jon Finn Group called "Wicked". These guys are a local band (Boston being local) that is a bit hard to categorize as they play jazz/fusion/rock/all-mushed-together/etc. This CD is highly recommended for anyone who is not a straight metal-head.
The band is a four piece band (guitar/bass/drums with a new keyboardist and no vocals). Jon schreds as few can do. [If I were a musician, I would spell this out in more sophisticated terms than Beavis and Butthead language but I'm not, so I can't.] And, if Jon wasn't enough guitar for you, there is even a guest appearance by JP on one song !! Jon Finn has been referred to as JP's instructor at Berklee and this is incorrect, but I get strong hints that there is a mutual admiration there. The drummer is Dave DiCenso and he is also most amazing as Paahh-met has already pointed out.
To me, this CD is streets ahead of their previous CD release "Dont Look So Serious" because it captures more of how they sound live. "Dont Look So Serious" seemed a bit lethargic to me and unrepresentative of how they can play. I have heard them live four times and they are definitely a "performers band". The new CD seems to feel more like their live performances than their first CD and has some longer songs.
There is a cover of Jeff Beck's "Definitely Maybe" which is pretty decent. I actually wish that they would throw in a couple of more covers every now and again because they dont take things too seriously (sorry). I dont see the purpose in blood-faithful covers but I think that it is quite interesting to hear creative covers and these guys could do a lot of songs justice.
There's some song writing experimentation on Wicked that has not sunk in but it is clear that this is one to get. And if you ever get the chance to see them live do so !! You can purchase this CD directly from the band - actually, it's the only way - at:

Does the fact that CDNow is shipping promotional copies of OiaL bother anyone else? If these are really promotional copies, and aren't simply the only thing that CDNow could get from Elektra to send early to people (which may be the case since everyone seems to be getting them), then something seems to be wrong here. If these were really promotional, then CDNow got them for free, which means they're pocketing every dime that we sent them. Now, DT may not get much from each sale, but I at least like to think that $1.10 of my $17 is going towards supporting John P's new kid.
Is DT getting ripped off here?
My copy was shipped on Monday and should get here today or tomorrow via USPS, and if it's a promotional copy I'm gonna email CDNow and ask what's going on.
Jim
P.S. This may really be nothing, but I'm curious as hell as to how so many promotional copies were made. That's gotta be some promotion!

Hey, Yeah, so I bought OiaL like the good DT fan I am and am very pleased with it. At $20.99 (from Circuit City, purveyors of the DIVX atrocity), it beats the price on any 2 disc bootleg around. ;) And like the rest of you, I have some thoughts, good and bad, that I'd like to share. I haven't listened to it as an album yet (start to finish in one sitting), but I have heard all the songs, so here goes:
a) DO NOT like the new version of the main riff for Peruvian Skies. If you don't know what I mean, than ignore me here. However, I do love the part around 5:20 when everything drops out for a second except the bass and drums. Tres cool. Its right after that part of the main riff that John P changes...
b) Where in the world is John Myung? And where have they been hiding that Sherinian guy until now? Derek owns this disc and Silent John is too silent. I can hardly hear the two-handed bass interlude in Metropolis. Oh, and the fans aren't saying "Metro-police", they're just prouncing Metropolis with a French accent...
c) Early contender for favorite track: JLMB. A track that I didn't like too much on FiI, but am strangely attracted to here. Least favorite track so far: Lie. It sounds almost passionless. As does PMU. You want passion? Derek's keys opening LitS. This is how ballsy the album version should have sounded.
d) I like the John Williams references, a la Star Wars and Close Encounters. Now if John M could have worked in the Jaws theme, this would have been too funny.
e) The other "references", i.e. Freebird, Have a Gigar, Moby Dick, etc., don't excite me all that much. After the ACOS covers, this is a tease of sorts.
f) Biggest complaint: no non-album tracks (TLF, TWIUTB, StM). Biggest compliment: this is the first live CD by a major band that actually sounds like one of their concerts. I haven't been to a single Rush show that sounds as crystalline as their live discs, and as for that Van Halen album: yeah, right.
g) I honestly think that there are no "significant" overdubs here (like Love Lies Bleeding). But I have to agree, those backing vocals are just a bit too "on-key" for me to not be suspicious.
h) And finally, though I like the idea of "drummer's perspective" mixing, why did they abandon this for solos? For instance, the JLMB solo isn't really traded off left to right as it should be. Its almost all on the center channel. Okay, I'll stop nitpicking and go back to listening...
