First of all, learn how to spell puertorican. I have all my life for a chance
to talk, or in this case, chat with my favorite band. And I had the chance
to talk to Mike!!!, and I couldn't. That's why I was so pissed. I don't think
that makes me a punk. But if you think ,JOSHUA, that it makes me one, then
you are the punk. What the hell do I care if the moderator doesn't like my
question, that's what he's getting paid for. Besides, he should have known
there would be a lot of questions. And forgive me if I don't know what the
caps mean but I'm always busy with something else, like studying at law school.
I think you should have the maturity or the brains to understand my frustration.

    Hey there.

Just thought I'd let all BR Jammers (all one or two of them , if that many), that I will be doing a very bried (one hour) show of progressive music on Sunday, November 1 at 5 PM. I'll play some DT, Fates Warning, Cea Serin, Porcupine Tree, and as much other stuf as I can fit in an hour (not a lot). Try to listen if you can.

funny you mentioned SK, with me finally getting around to picking up Water.....it arrived in the mail yesterday, same day as I tabbed The Lizard in my top 20 classics for that poll.....

i didn't realize that SK went through so many changes in that short a time, betw. lizard and water.....the main thing they lost in that time was the kramer's awesome (for me anyway) vocals.....water, on first listen, therefore was a bit hard to take....the same cool musical stylings but without that voice to lift it onto orbit.....

    anyway.....

    Hey

Just to add my 28 Estonian cents... The albums rip! Both of 'em. Want a favorable review in a popular Estonian youth magazine? Consider it done, folks. :-)

For those who complain about not hearing enough of John O'Myung in favor of Giovanni Petrucci... Well, the answer lies in (cough-cough) FLAT EQ and a set of GOOD speakers. When I say flat, I don't mean maybe. When I say good, I mean expensive.

No it can't... I'm sure I got one of the first copies, since I have had it for a week and a half now.... Mine is "normal". I work in a "big chain" record company in the Netherlands (Free Record Shop) and our storehouse had had the OIALT stock in for a few weeks already... So those copies must have been shipped around the last week of september.... Maybe it's possible that CDNOW had their stock even earlier.... But that seems very unlikely...

I guess it'll remain a mystery for now... But I tell ya, since we are the die-hard fans, we have the first copies and so some of us could have even some "wrong" ones..... I bet in a few years, people (collectors) are willing to pay lots of money to get such (limited) promo version...

I agree. My music system cost me a whopping $13000. :P Thankfully it ha= s more use than that... I can drive it around town, too. :) I'm such an audiophile I bought my Honda Civic Coupe simply because it had the best sounding system of any car I've ever been in. :D Not to mention it's qui= te reliable, for a car... But that's all secondary. :) HEAR the music!

NOOOO!!!! Jason stole my humor! I want it back!!! :) Anyway, about Water... It did take me awhile to get used to Matt's absence from SK myself. The first time I heard Water I was quite shocked and dismayed at the vocals. I think it was mostly because I have a major stigma over ban= ds that change members around like that alot, especially vocalists. Eventually, I came around (thankfully). I actually like Jason's singing better than Matt's now, and the music hasn't changed all too drastically, except in a forward direction (which is good). If you haven't picked up Devil In The Details or Jason's solo album yet, you might want to as Wate= r was kind of their low point as a band anyway. :) (all IMO)

I returned from a vacation last week and just read about 30 ytsejams, so this is not a direct answer/reply to any previous post, just some thoughts...

I have to admit that supergroups are a great idea, and what's more important, there are awesome players who are, as Mike Portoy stated, willing to take time after their 'main' project/band and give the fans more feast for their ears. There're a few artists (sideprojects or not) whose names mean to me a certain '100% likeable quarantee' that no matter what they do (playing/record-wise) I'm sure to like it; Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and now, thanks to Liquid Tension Experiment and Explorers Club, MIKE PORTNOY and JOHN PETRUCCI. Can't wait to get my hands on LTE2! And finally... I really have to admire the energy Dream Theater members have to constantly take part in online chats, replying to the ytsejam etc. to interact with their fans. A DT fan can be sure to be constantly informed about what the members are up to next. An excellent example for every other band to follow. Thanks guys!

Ok, that's enough for now; time to listen some Dream Theater :)

Roughly, Bernie plays all of the solos that Frank normally played on the disc II material (only Jim played on disc I)... You can kind of pick out his guitar tone by listening to Monument... he plays the first solo and then Jim comes in with his flamenco-like acoustic solo (performed on an electric though)... Bernie played Frank's old parts pretty close to the record...

Ah, we prog fans are an anal bunch. I'm just glad that there's a forum like this to discuss silly things like jewel case engineering. Anyway, as far as I can tell, the OIALT case is a good design since it allows 2 discs to fit in a case which uses the same front and back pieces as a standard case. The other 2-disc small cases (which allowed access to disc 2 via a hinge on the right) use modified versions of the standard components.

I must admit that when I first listened to Water, I didn't like it because I thought it was too mellow. I didn't even notice that they changed vocalists till long after I came around and decided it was my favorite SK album. I guess it's because Jason always sang backup, so the harmonies had that same sound to it...or something like that.
