Almost every year? No, that's not the actual situation. They only
played here once in the last year (two times in Sao Paulo and once in Rio,
I think) and said that they'd be here in 1998. Perhaps the response was
good enough (and it seems that it was) and they decided to play here again
this year.
But that will be the second time DT comes to Brazil. It's still
not frequent enough to say that they come here every year. But I wouldn't
complain if they came. :-)
BTW, this year they will play a shorter set than they played last
year. Damn! They could be the headliners, but Slayer got the spot. Not
that I don't like "Raining Blood", but I'd prefer to listen to "To Live
Forever" (hint, hint), even though I know that the won't play this song.

here is a little review of Fates Warning - Still Life (Live 2 CD)
I can only say WOW. This album is really awesome. The sound quality is great, the tracklisting is great too. The live peformence of APSOG is much more powerfull than the album version. "Monument" and "At Fates Hands" are killer live songs. Mark Zonder is god. This guy plays like a machine.
Overall, this is one of the best prog live album ever. If you don't know Fates Warning, this is the best album to start with. It contains some of the best works from one of the best prog bands. For all those who only have APSOG, buy Still Life and check out the 2nd Disc which contains the long opus "The Ivory Gate Of Dreams" and "The 11th Hour".
Btw, Still Life has a special price which is like 1 CD and not 2 !!!

Exactly, on September, 1997. And Miguel, ever heard of a PETITION?? We did one in Brazil, the Ytsejam made two (to release FII and ACOS), so it could help to get things working there. Just a thought...
On another note, I'm still waiting for concrete info about the concerts in the cities of Rio and Curitiba. Perhaps someone from the band could help us out... (hint, hint! :)

Perhaps you live in a place where *actual music* can be purchased at your local music stores. I can't even find "Surfing With the Alien" in many local stores (just idly checking; I've owned it for years). And I still don't have "Dreaming #11" on CD for that reason.

Actually you might be able to find some Camel cd's/records from some prog stores in the States but you are in Chile I do not know how hard it is over there. For here, you can find some Camel cd's at regular prices at prog stores like Amoeba, Rusputin, CD Warehouse or even Borders books and music store.
I do not think you need to spend that much money to Artists-Shop just to get import copies. Here are their albums just in case you are interested to know.
- Camel (debut album, a bit hard ot find on cd but not for a record. It does not sound like Camel at all.) - Mirage (really good album, a must have) - The Snow Goose (Roger was right on this one. It's a very beautiful instruemental concept album. The concept for this album is about two characters, Fritha and Rhayader, who care for a wounded snow goose.) The story is based on "The Snow Goose" by Paul Gallico - Moonmadness (a nother good one in this period) - Rain Dances (the opening song "First light" is very beautiful) - A Live Record (I do not have this album) - Breathless (poppy) - I Can See Your House From Here (I just can't admit that this is a Camel album) Pete Bardens left the band before they released this album but Camel had Kit Watkins (Happy The Man). But there is a good song in this album it's a 11 minute song called "Ice". Camel still played this song at live sometimes. - Nude (a very good one) Based on a concept story by Susan Hoover whowas a member of Sky (classical prog). - Chameleon (compilation) - The Single Factor (very weak) Pete Bardens and Anthony Phillips (ex-Genesis) play on this album but it is still very poppy. - Stationary Traveller - Pressure Points (a very good live album. They have this album on a video as well. I do not know why everytime I listen ot Camel live album I think they always play slower than the albums) - Dust and Dreams (another concept album if you like the new Camel) - Camel On The Road 1972 (official bootleg) - Echoes (compilation) - Never Let Go (official bootleg) - Harbour Of Tears (a must have one for recent materials). It's a concept album. When I saw Camel played in San Francisco in 1997. They played the entire album of HOT. So beautiful. - Coming of Age (new double live cd) Coming out soon I think. Or it it already out?

Soundscape-Discovery I saw this band two years in a row at the Powermads. One question, how can a band that sounds that good live sound like crap as they do on this cd. In concert the band is prog metal big time. On this cd they are prog pop(maybe). This has got to be the worst cd I have heard in a long time. The cd just does absolutely nothing for me at all. The production for one thing is horrible. Thorne's voice in the studio is awful. In concert Soundscape is a must see band, but buy their cds at your own risk...

My add to this: First, why even bothering if it is prog metal or prog rock .... It IS definitely PROG for those days (and even now).
Camel is just one hell of a band. "Snow Goose" - great concept album. I don't recomended to any tame music haters. It is quite alid back but also has some rockin' parts but not like DT, DP anyway. Camel's adut were always great melodies and arrangements.
Also I would add 2 more albums:
1) "Mirage" You wanted prog - there you have it! :-) Much harder than TSG
2) "Moonmadness" - prog. stuff also but less good than "Mirage"

Having said that, I think bad lyrics only hit me for so long before I'm really ignoring them (good ones too for that matter) before the singer is just another instrument to me. And I must admit that I was a little down on AoI after the first few listens, but I kept listening and now I'm really into it.

Funny you should ask. Here's what I posted yesterday on the Symphony X mailing list:
When I was at Powermad, one of my friends said to me "Hey, see that stack of Vauxdvihl CD's? Well, Ken Golden (the Laser's Edge d00d) says those are virtually the last of any copies in print that are still for sale, aside from a few that some of the other dealers might have." I had never heard any of their music either, but I knew the name, so I decided to take a chance and pick it up. (Yes, the supposed "rareness" factor did motivate the purchase.) As it turns out, the album is very, very good. I'd say it's like a cross between "Perfect Symmetry" era Fates Warning and early Queensryche, maybe around the "Mindcrime" era with a bit of a darker sound, at times almost having a goth quality to it. I'd suggest trying to find this gem before it's out of print for real. Try Laser's Edge for starters. If you don't see it listed, I suggest you go ahead an email Ken Golden and ask if there are any copies left. It's called Vauxdvihl "To Dimension Logic".
