    Hi,

I know, we shouldn't be discussing Korn but I just saw their new
video on MTV, and ...er can anybody say Nine Inch Nails? my lordy what
    a rip off.

            Just had to say,

Dave (a UK jammer, now in Alabama).

NP : Thankyou and Goodnight - It Bites (live), actually that's a lie,

Why you ask? Caught in bed with the Keyboard tech's Wife. Do I believe

    Hi

here is a little review of Enchant - Break:

First of all I would like to say, that the following comments are only my opinions
so don't start another flame war. Just hear the disc and judge for your self.
As a big Enchant fan I was very exciting about the release of Break and I expected
another great prog album from Enchant.

Well to me, Break is the most dissapointed release of 1998 !!!
Enchant have changed their style totaly. They've did this before (Wounded) and it
worked but this time, I don't know, maybe the songs are not well written.
The CD has 11 song and only 3 songs are really good. Also for some strange reason,
everything on Break sounds the same (especially the guitar sounds).
The song "My Enemy" is ond of the best Enchant songs ever. Superb melody written
by Michael Geimer. Everthing else has not the quality of Enchant's past works
"A Blueprint Of The World" is the best Enchant album followed by "Time Lost".
"Wounded" is not as good the Blueprint or Time Lost but it's still great.
"Break" is the wrost Enchant album. Where are the great druming ?
What happend to the great keyboards ?
I give Break 5 points out of 10.

Btw, I've listen to "Break" more than 5 times before mailing this review.

I have it. It's the same principle as Vital Tech Tones, with Steve Smith,
Scott Henderson, and Victor Wooten, but in my opinion, not as good. Stu's
bass was shoved way back in the mix, and I couldn't really hear it. Frank
was way up front. Great for guitarists, but bad for us bass players. I was a
little disappointed by it, especially since I'm a fairly big Stu Hamm fan as
well (he's great to go drinking with). He does do some really interesting
stuff, but I found it very hard to hear.

Then again, I thought the mix on FII was perfect - what do I know? :)

    Ok Jammers,

Exactly the same as last time I picked up a boot which got my juices
flowin' (Guitar Talkin) I've just got another beauty and am open for tape
trade offers. Although I'm still kinda shocked at the minimal response to
Guitar Talkin as it is one awesome cd.

I've just got back from a vacation in Malaysia and Singapore, cool country
and excellent exchange rate for my English Pound.....purchases included

    Tapes

Awake (minus Scarred obviously but worth it just to hear the wacked out
    running order...Innocence Faded-SDV!!)
    FII (minus no tracks.........mmmmmmmm....interesting)
    Skid Row-40 Seasons...Best Of
    Monster Magnet -Superjudge
Firehouse-Good Acoustics (OK cheesy 80's band but cool summer acoustic
    album....."baby dont treat me baaaaaaad")
All of these 'new' tapes were œ2
The Wedding Singer OST- (Hey we all had an adolescence you know....too
    shy,shy.....)

    CDs

Mind Control (2CD top quality recording of Awake gig in japan plus
obligatory Tears and Silent Man acoustic as on Guitar Talkin) cost me œ10

Hollow Years jap import (with BMS/HK version and AH/TKH live Birch Hill)
didnt expect a lyric sheet to be included with all the songs inside
including The Way it Used To Be lyrics and You not Me instead of You or Me
but this was a bonus) cost me œ7

Tesla-Times Makin Changes- (Say no more.....I miss these guys)

Anyway if anybody's interested....drop me a line I still have a tape and
copy of artwork all ready for GT as a jammer dropped out of a trade.

By the way anybody heard Poundhound by Doug Pinnick yet ????????

Listen to the intro of "The Edge" on Vince Neil's first solo album (1993). Steve Stevens plays guitar on this album (and may write most if not all of the music as well). The beginning of "The Edge" has a sort of "flamenco" sound to it. At least I've always thought so. I'm no expert on flamenco guitars, though.

I think that this particular rumor is totally false. The real story occurred after the recent show in SF. Derek violated the DT "No Hootenanny" rule. Of course he did not intentially break the rule, it was only a technical violation. (As a matter of fact, one of three girls REALLY was a girl, and Derek claims that he thought the other two were also female...) Rumor also has it that KJLB was going to join in, but jumped back when he got a glimpse up one of their dresses. At that point he decided to get out the video camera and tape the whole episode instead. He may release this as a bootleg video along with other "candid" video he has taken of Derek's exploits. ;op

do they have keyboard tab? yeah, they have keyboard tab--it's called sheet music. :)

serioulsy, if you're going to be learning a whole new method of reading anyway (which is what music-reading is) you might as well just go all the way and learn the most practical method possible.

once you get the basics you'd really be surprised how fast you can learn more and more.

I highly recommend learning to read music, and learning theory, it makes everything a damn sight easier. It saves you having to use any chord books, because you'll know how to work the chords out for yourself. Chord theory on its own is not too much to learn, but I recommend, if you're serious, to learn all theory, it will improve your musicianship no end.

Yeah, I actually almost forgot about the thanks section (the name of Klank's current full-length is Still Suffering). Daren Diolosa (Klank) is one of the coolest guys, too. When I hung out with him some at Cornerstone this past year, he noticed my DT shirt and asked where I saw them and stuff like that. He should have a new Klank release sometime this fall. He said if he doesn't get signed, he'll release it himself. It's supposed to be pretty brutal :). He's also got some other projects in the works. Lethal MOB (which is supposed to be sort of a thrash/rap thing (i.e. Sepultura meets something rap)) and another project that's supposed to be a bit more laid-back. The latest (and last) Circle of Dust release is good, but it's a bit more electronic than their earlier stuff, so if you dig more grinding guitars, try to find the Brainchild release. And I must vouch for Living Sacrifice. Their latest release (Reborn) tends more toward heavy groove hardcore metal, as opposed to the death metal stylings of their earlier stuff. It's all good, though :).

Ok, so I'm about a week late on this one! forgive me already.

Interesting thread that went on here though, and I thought I'd add some comments on some of the more progressive christian bands I've come across in my wanderings.

Firstly SAVIOUR MACHINE ! I can't believe there is people on this list who havn't heard/heard of them yet! Can you say epic, symphonic, operatic, gothic tinged, progressive metal? Of course you can, but can you envisage it? Not until you've heard a Saviour Machine album. As has been already noted, Saviour Machine is an incredible band. Totally unique, (in my experience anyways), totally mindblowing. There's a few good web pages out there, devoted to the band, I'd suggest if you have even an inkling of interest in them you look one up and check out some sound samples. BTW they are currently 2/3 the way through a Trilogy of albums called "legend" Basically, it's a three part concept album, based on the singers interpretation of the prophetic books of the bible. Food for thought indeed. (Though, I gotta admit not really having spent any time delving into the lyrics of Legend Pt 1 or 2 yet... a task for a rainy day perhaps :-) ) As for 'getting into' Saviour Machine - it takes a while .. like all good things. However, if youre a metal fan (like me) I'd suggest going for their debut album - "Saviour Machine I". If your a fan of lighter, more 'keyboard' based music, or perhaps getting into DT through a love of Rush or Pink Floyd then I'd suggest getting "Saviour Machine II" (The second album) While the two Legend discs ~are~ my favuorite of the band at thispoint in time, I wouldn't suggest getting them straight up, much like trying to run before you can crawl.

Veni Domine :_ AN awesome blend of doom and progressiveness. Take one part Queensryche and 2 parts Candlemass and youve got Veni Domine. An even though I'm a big fan of Candlemass, I gotta say with the prog influences thrown in VD blow them away - completly and utterly. They have two albums out so far (the third should be available very soon) I'd say go for the debut 'Fall Babylon Fall' over their second 'Material Santuary' - but not by much :-)

Khollaspe : - These three (young) guys are just plain cool. (Christian) Australian Death/Dark metal with tons of progressive elements. If you can enjoy (or endure) the indecipherable vocal on some tracks then this, their debut is well worth the effort. Mucho looking forward to a follow-up from them.

Paramaecium : Another australian former (and still kinda) death/grindcore band. Their latestalbum, Within The Ancient Story is a full blown concept album, with music styles ranging from simple flute arrangements and clear female vocals thru to full on death metal material. Along the way we hear violins, cellos, operatic vocals, etc etc, plus plenty of heavy distorted guitars. Hell, the singer even wrote a short novel to accompany the album! How's that for conceptual?? Sadly, this one for me didn't quite live up to the hope and potential I had thought it had... maybe it's just the 'style' doesn't really gel with my tastes.

Believer : Believer started out as a straightfoward thrash/death outfit. Then came the second album Sanity Obscure, and they'd started to experiment a little with violin and opera singing on a couple of tracks. Apart from that there is alot of good music (although not progressive) on it, not least an incredible cover of U2's 'Like A Song' But the real reason I mention Believer here is for there 3rd album "Dimensions". Here we see Believer at full tilt, experimental and very tight. Kinda deathy vocals are still prominent, but the music! Throw in a lot of prog elements to the aforementioned thrash/death style, such as time changes etc, add a dash of psycho industrial reasoning (seasoning?) and you have an idea of the first 6 songs on the album. The final 20minute + 'track' made up of three movements is called "Trilogy Of Knowledge" and is far and away the single most co-herent mixture of metal, violins and opera I have ever heard. AN awesome track, an worth the entry price alone, although, the 20minutes always seems to go by in a second when listening to this one!! Highly recommended :-)

Well.... there's something.. a bit about 4 of my favourite christian artists. (and Paramaecium thrown in for good measure) There's still a few bands I have, that I havn't mentioned that have progressive elements such as Sacred Warrior (queensrychey elements) Deliverence (were thrash/speed, but have lately turned quite interesting incorporating much progressive metal into their style, sounding pretty queensryche influenced to me), Betrayal (awesome technical/thrash metal, with an unfortunate choice of singer ;-( ) and of course Tourniquet, whom others have mentioned. Their most 'technical' and progressive (and best IMO) is their 2nd and 3rd albums. Other stuff is good, but more simpler and not quite as interesting....

anway, Gotta go now finally, :-) thanks that's all Zajk
