And for those who care to hear Terry Bozzio's, here is what my friend sent me:

Of all people, Terry Bozzio joined the Knack, who played at Slim's last
week. After two stupid opening bands, the Knack started at 11:30pm and
played so many non-"My Sharona" songs, but I was pretty much able to tune
them out to just listen to Terry bash his massive kit. The highlight of the
evening was, (no, not My Sharona), was when they played "Not
Fadeaway"-Grateful Dead tune and played an incredible drum solo over the
beat in the background. Also, you might want to look for his new CD:
Drawing the Circle: new music for solo drumset.
I've never seen anyone with a big enough ego and talent to come up with a
drum solo CD! 10 tracks of incredible drum work, melodic and
polyrhythmical, with REALLY busy foot work he calls ostionado.

We have some new bands you might be interested in checking out
at our sight:
Equinox - prog rock that combines classic Genesis and Styx with
a new style and subtle Latin-American feel. Long instrumental
passages combined with catchy hooks.
Sanity - Swedish prog metal ala DT, Savatage, Malmsteem mixed
with a touch of AOR.
Clockwork - most of you guys are already familiar with them. Their
new album will be coming out in fall/winter and their debut CD
"Search" will then go out of print. soon to be a collectors item.
plus we have some other fun stuff too. so come by, listen to a few

I'm sad to say that I totally agree with that. I hardly even read an entire
digest, or anything close to that anymore.... I joined this list hoping to get
a better idea of who DT is, and see what kind of people their fans are, and
just to have some interesting discussions. To a point, I have gotten that, but
it seems that people are a little too hard on others. Oh, well, everyone's a

I just heard TWANG! which is kinda tribute to Hank Marvin with bunch of
guitairsts: Ritchi Blackmoore, Tony Iommi, Brian May...
Now, among others is Steve Stevens and what he plays is Spanish guitar
style solos. Hearing this and
remembering reading the reviews og BLS, where also it's mentioned that
he plays Spanish style, I wonder about this guy! Personally I don't know
him, I heard he played with Billy Idol. Is this true? I might now him
then, but
what's this pre-occupation with Spanish flamenco guitars? :)
Is he famous for this stuff or it's just a phase he's in these days? :)

Uhm, I never said it did.
You ever look at an actor and say "oh, I hate his new hair style"?

In my post I complimented each of DT's individual performances (with
the possible exception of Derek). By saying that Palmer put on (IMO)
the more impressive performance was in no way cutting down MP. Both
are awesome.

My comments were specific to this show only (notice how my post said
"Best drum performance" not "Best Drummer") - I haven't seen/heard enough
of Palmer to say if he is "better". But obviously you have, so I stand
corrected.
The digs at the MP's and Derek's looks/attire? Argueably unnecessary. I
felt distracted by them, so that took something away from the "experience".
No big deal and hardly a cut/slice/dice.

Actually I get a similar feeling, though the cause is just the opposite.
This list (and for that matter virtually every other band-specific list)
treats band members as sacred.
Hello!? The boys in DT are awesome which is why we all go to the shows and
buy the CDs. However, they are 1) not perfect, 2) not the best musicians
in the world. Ask them - they'll tell you.
And don't feel the need to defend them:
1) they are big boys who should be able to handle rational comments
about their performances
2) this is a mailing list in which people are free to voice opinions,
both good and bad

Hi, since my brother's been taking lessons for a while and we recently
got a synth ( Korg N5 , thanx whoever sugested it...it roX!) ive been
getting into playing the thing..and ive gotten some stuff down... but
since my theory knowledge is very limited... i need some help..is there
such a thing as keyboard tab?! hehe.. im thinking of buying the chord
computer..which has a lcd diagram of the keyboard and you enter whatever
chord you want and it shows you... but i dont know... any help would be
appreciateD!

----It is a keyboard. I've seen the guy on one of them talk shows or something. He even really uses his thumb and mouth for those popping noises. Can't be that hard to figure out though. What I wanna learn is that commercial for Payless where the footprints appear on the screen in sync with the bass. :) Probably same guy with the same keyboard.

Hi all, Been lurkin' for quite a while (new job, very busy) but I have a tidbit for ya. Rumor has it, from an industry insider, that Derek is on the way out. Why you ask? Caught in bed with the Keyboard tech's Wife. Do I believe this? I'm not sure, but I do remember Derek hitting on my wife right in front of me at Ytsecon 1. I actually had to say "Derek, were married." To which he replied "sorry" and turned away. :^( My new job is for a company that installs lighting systems and manufactures power distribution and motor control units for concert halls and tours. Meeting lots of cool people in "The Biz." :^)

I think he's been into it for a long time... I never though much about him as a guitarist when he was with Idol, but he released a 12 minute song for Guitar World, where he played several different guitar styles and it was awesome. Unfortunately his first solo release "Atomic Playboys" kind of sucked... BLS definately make sup for it though...

Klank rocks! On his cd, he thanks mike portnoy and dream theater, I'm not sure if mike did any tracks for him, though. Also, Klank's old band Circle of Dust rocks too. They have a kinda new one out called Disengage, it's probably the best industrial I've heard in a while. Another good Christian hardcore band is Living Sacrifice.

I missed the first few songs Dream Theater played, but I had just seen th= em headlining a few months back in San Francisco. They are a great band to = see live, always very tight. The singer gets a little too operatic at times, but t= hey are just phenomenal musicians, and I really enjoyed their set. Apparently they ra= n out of time, because the didn't finish the last song they played, but they seem= ed to get a great reaction from the crowd, especially for an opening act. -------------------------------------------------------------------------= ------- Dream Theater took to the stage 8 minutes early and I was quite surprised= at the talent of this band. I had never heard any of their music prior to now a= nd they were more than equal to the task of being on this bill. I=92m sure we=92re go= ing to hear more from them as time goes on. I didn=92t know the names of any tunes but re= cognized quotes from Pink Floyd and Metallica. Mike Portnoy is an excellent drumm= er and has lots of chops, but he really doesn=92t have to flog those drums like= that. A little finesse would go a long way and who knows, it may even increase his spee= d a bit ;-) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- THE SO SO
Now, just a few quick comments on the show. Dream Theater was pretty good= for a warm-up act. That particular slap-bass patch that has since become a Seinfeld "staple" came stock with the classic Korg M-1.....patch #16 if I remember correctly.
