noone has mentioned "Cheap Thrills"....it is a new compilation of studio and live stuff and it's excellent... it has lots of Keneally and Vai stuff...I think it has songs with most of the musicians that worked with Zappa...here's the setlists

I could Be a Star Now Catholic Girls (live) Bobby Brow Goes Down (live) you are what you is we are not alone cheap thrills the mudshark interview hot plate heaven at the green hotel zomby woof (live) the torture never stops joe's garage (live) my guitar wants to kill your mama (live) giong for the money

it totally kiss major ass and it has a complete catalogue of Zappa stuff in multimedia (it is an enhanced CD) im my opinion this compilation is way better than strictly commercial....even when strictly commercial has more songs... --- MP3 of the week - "Coyote Face (LIVE)" By Z http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/2025/

All I can say is, it just so happens I saw this movie two days ago, after I'd already submitted my fav. movie list. Otherwise, it would have been near the top. It's finely directed, it has wonderful special effects, great acting, and... kate winslet as a lesbian.

To anyone who's seen it, don't those dream sequences remind you of the ones in young sherlock holmes? I believe, and I know somebody out there knows more than me on this, that that movie was ILM's first.

Dream Theater: 7:45p - 8:30p. I knew most people would choose to miss this band, so my friend Holger and I had no problems finding empty seats at the front of the orchestra section. I can sum up this band in one word: TIGHT. I would definitely call Dream Theater one of THE BEST progressive rock/metal acts around. They play with such power and precision, very much on the same caliber as RUSH and YES.

Unfortunately, their set was only 45 minutes, I think they could have easily gone another hour. I think if this was 1987, Dream Theater would be headlining their own show at Universal (Dammit, if Disco and Swing can make a comeback, Metal definitely should!!). Hopefully someday they will headline their own arena tour because they definitely have a very large volume of strong material. ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Tickets said 7:45 and sure enough DREAM THEATER hit the stage promptly @ 7:46 throughout their set the one phrase that kept popping into my mind was "HOW THE HELL DO THEY REMEMBER ALL THIS STUFF!" DT were easily the tightest band of the night. Now this is NOT a slag on DP but with DT's material it was clear that their main concern was to play each song as close to the album version as possible and while this was entertaining and their musicianship cannot be faulted in the least it still meant that thier music didn't "breathe" like Purples or even like ELP's for that matter. There is ZERO room for improv. in a Dream Theater song. Still, I loved some of their new stuff (Peruvian Skies in particular) and Pull me under served it's purpose well as the sing (shout?) along crowd favorite. ------------------------------------------------------------ Dream Theater: We've never seen them live and were blown away! We'd heard alot about the band, especially Mike Portnoy. They have that thing for changing up time and making it seem so natural. Mike was sporting a new do; I thought they got a new drummer!!

Hey Mr. Portnoy: Can you track CD sales? Did DT sales both old and new go up as a result of the DP/ELP/DP tour?

well, the "best of" would give you a feel for what they're like overall, plus a lot of those tunes would be played live (theoretically). also, i'd go with "gretchen" and "dogman" too. both excellent, but both very different from each other. "ear candy" would be next, in my book. and the other ones are very good as well.

    Hi all

feeling in a fairly somber mood last night, I decided to watch my video of "Dead Man Walking" (another of my favourite films, by the way), and a question popped into my alcohol-softened brain - assuming you were in a similar situation as Matthew (i.e. about to be snuffed out by means of a lethal injection) and you were allowed to listen to just one last album while eating your last meal, which album would you choose? I think my choice would have to be Aenima by Tool. This album sometimes gets me so pissed with the rest of what calls itself humanity that I would quite happily leave it for ever. Any other takes on this one?

On another note: I'm trying (somehow, someway) to get to one of the Savatage concerts on the East Coast this and the following weekend. Just one, that's all I ask. I have no car, otherwise I would be untertaking a road trip. Is ANYONE planning on going to any of the gigs, specifically the Jaxx gig (as it is closest to my school) or the one at the Birch Hill or in Philly?? Anyone, anyone?? Email me, PLEASE! Don't be shy, I just need some Savatage before I lose it completely...

Well, the au-pair is writing again. So far I didn't kill the kids but likeAmerica ok. Charlie told me way ago that I was on the list , but I didn't get any information, so I will e-mail him. I heard DT on the radio: KWOU or something at 1:15 am they played LIE. The reworked Vai page is really nice. I will go and vote now for best song of the millenium. Alex, I still have your disc, give me a call. Over and out

I saw yesterday that King's X will also be at Birch Hell around that time. Dunno the actual date, but I know it's not 10/17, when Incubus will be at BH. I'll definitely be there.

By the way, speaking of upcoming non-DT dates, anyone in the NYC area may like to know that Henry Rollins will be doing a spoken word show on 10/13 at Irving Plaza. Depending on how fast it sells out, he may confirm another date at Irving on 10/14. Whether you've seen him or not, definitely go - it's something you'll never forget.

    One word: Enya. hahahahaha!

I think if you could have Queen work well with a movie about an immortal sword-swinger, you might not do bad with DT in a lotr score. Obviously, some styles would work and some wouldn't. Like, I don't think there's anywhere you could put something that sounds like new millenium(it's just too cool for a movie). But something that sounds like the Ytsejam, or Metropolis, I guess the older stuff, that would be cool somewhere. I don't really know, though, because I hate fantasy and so i'm not familiar with the trilogy. The Princess Bride is about the top of my pain threshold.

Re:The Lord Of the Rings I think the movie really needs a superbly orchestrated soundtrack. Yeah, DT in there would be nice, but a move on this grand a scale really demands a huge , epic classical-esqe soundtrack. At least, I think so. But, we could get DT to write it:) Re: Conception Are they still around? I heard they broke up.
