I sent them money a month or so ago and received the 2CD set in about a
week. I just received an e-mail from the guy saying he was stuck in Europe
without a flight. He didn't go into details but indicated he would be back
soon. I can't explain the "RETURN TO SENDER".

Anyway, the Spock Beard Live at the Roxy boot is quite nice and definitely
worth the $19. The packaging is very nice for a homemade boot. It even
has color, stick-on labels on the CDR. I recommend this boot. It is a
little bassy but nothing a little eq. won't fix. Aside from the bass, it
is a very clean recording and does not have a lot of intrusive crowd noise.

This could be for a number of reasons. Some people don't have time; they
may have skimmed past your post (like I probably did), or not even read the
jam you posted it to. Or, it could be that no one really had anything to

As far as I know, he's done 5 articles for his "Wild Stringdom" column this
year: Warming Up, pts. 1&2, and Practice Makes Perfect, pts. 1, 2, and (I
think) 3. GW Online has yet to update his column past PMP1. There was no
"Wild Stringdom" article in the last GW I read, however (I think it was
August). Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.

Does anyone know if JP will be doing any clinics soon, or when he will be

    4. Individual:The monkey had this insight all by himself. He was
the first one to use the bone as a weapon. Then, he showed it to
his 'friends' or they saw him using and started to use it too. So,
first it was an individual knowledge, then it became a knowledge
to all the group (and even to the enemies, I think, I don't
remember that scene very much). There are two kinds of intuition:
a)racional and b)sensitive or empiric intuition. This last one
relates to the states of the subject of the knowledge: sensations,
memories, feelings, perceptions... all of these are exclusivily
personal, so, when the monkey had the intuition, he was alone.
Only after this that the group became aware of it too.
    5. The scene shows a monolite. The monkeys see it and they are
afraid and run. They start throwing things toward it, but then
they stop attacking, they come closer and their faces goes like
'???'. (Don't remember what happens next). This shows how people
react when they search for the truth of something (in this case,
when they want to know what is that monolite). Doubt and
    confusion,
fear and admiration, all these sensations (etc.) make us "want to
    know what we don't know,
make us want to leave the state of insecurity or enchantment, make
us take notice of our ignorance and bring the desire of overcoming
    the uncertainty."
And here the part of the monkeys finishes. I saw the rest of the
film just once, and a long time ago, so, I didn't see it
    carefully.
    So, that's it.

    any other
    >interpretations?
I saw this film (the beggining, just the part of the monkeys)
    during one of my philosophy
    classes last year.
I didn't remember much of it, so I looked at my scribbles and this
    was written there:
    - internal problem
    - external problem
    - individual
    - "insight"
But, with the help of my philosophy book I could remember/realize
    that
the film shows the two types of rational activity, one of the two
    types
of intuition, the two types of problem (when you're talking
about a group) and the reactions that one can have in trying to
    find the truth.
    1. Internal problem: when the group of monkeys is fighting against
each other (for food or something, don't remember)
    2. External problem: when the group of monkeys fight against
another group of monkeys because of the lake.
    3. Intuition: When a monkey sees a piece
of bone. First, it's something completely common for him (as that
are bones everywhere at that age). But then he looks at the bone,
the bone looks at him... and... PLIN! He realizes that he can use
    the bone as a weapon!
Now, interpretation of this scene: There are two kinds of racional
activity: intuition and reasoning. Intuition: immediate form of
knowledge; Reasoning: reaches the concept of the object through
levels of knowledge, so it goes step by step and through several
acts of knowledge. So, this scene shows a case of intuition, since
the monkey had an immediate comprehension. "Psychologists relate
to intuition using the term 'insight', relating to the moment when
one has a total, direct and immediate comprehension of something,
or the moment when one realizes, at once, the way to the solution
of a scientific, philosophical or vital problem." So, the monkey
had a problem (within his group and with the other one) and
realized the solution (to use the bone as a weapon, so that he
could protect himself, attack the others and win) knowing the
object (bone) in a direct way.

I'll split this into two messages, so it won't seem it's so big...

    Well,

Someone people have posted about lack of room for improvisation in a DT concert. As again not to start a flame war, but you have to understand that not all of us here on the Ytsejam come from the same facet of music. Some of us enjoy jam oriented improvisational music like Phish and Zappa. Here's what MP has to say about improv in DT, from his notes about OiaL on the official Electra site:

------------------------- And of course, what Progressive live album would complete without the obligatory self-indulgent solo spots!!!! The arrangements to the songs are almost never the same as the album versions. Some songs are extended and have improvised jams thrown in, some songs are shortened and have been combined to create medleys, some songs have bits & pieces of cover tunes thrown in......It's this variety and these embellishments that I think make our live show -------------------------

Again, not trying to flame, just defending myself. My point is that there's room for _some_ improv in DT. That's what I like about the band, the variety. If a band does all soft, whiny songs that's incredibly boring to me, and the same goes for a band that's all heavy songs in E pentatonic. How dull. DT is such a great band because they mix it up so well, you've got soft stuff like Hollow Years to heavy tunes like Puppies on Acid; and you've got some fixed arrangements exactly like the album versions with some improvisational jams.

Hey everybody. It's the one and only "glam rock" loving Richie Rivera here, writing to you from my new e-mail address. Boston's pretty cool so far, in case you were wondering. Anyway, the real reason for the this message (aside from a general "what's up?") is to announce that my band, Vermont's very own RAIN CHEQUE, has finally finished up our album. Yes, it's been a long, hard process, as I'm sure many on this list have experienced themselves at some point. The CD, called "Beauty Before Change," is now available for pre- ordering. The released date is October 1st, God willing :) It can be ordered through our website at http://www.uvm.edu/~cfrederi/index.htm, where you can also hear sound clips (real audio only). The page is still in its preliminary stages, so it's pretty bare bones so far. We'll soon have both photos and lyrics available for your inspection, hopefully by the end of the week. But again, PRE-ORDERING IS NOW OPEN! The price is $8, plus $1 shipping and handling. Just so you don't go in with the wrong idea, we are not a progressive metal band, though a couple of our songs do lean in that direction. Basically, we play technically demanding, guitar-driven pop with female vocals. Picture DT, Warrant, and The Cranberries all getting into a head-on collision. We're the result. Check it out.

    Richie

P.S. As for DT content, umm......three of the songs appearing on the album (the most DT sounding ones) were co-written with one Chris "D-Man" Merlo from the old Nine Miles days, who used to maintain the DT FAQ. That's the best I can do.

I don't watch WCW myself, but my brother did a few times a few weeks back and a guy was wearing a Nevermore t-shirt with their first album cover on the front. His name was the Raven so it kind of fit ("Quoth the Raven, 'Nevermore'"). But he was ordering guys around too, so he's probably the same guy. Maybe this guy is a big metalhead!

    NDTC onviously!

This is a kind of movie, when you watch over and over again you always notice something different, something new that you didn't before. I guess that makes it a prog. movie, a? ;-)

    1) In the scene when John Travolta and Samuel Jackson enter the room with the punks who stealed that misterious suitcase. When Travolta finds it and opens it, the password (lock) number of the suitcase is 666! :) Anybody noticed it? Any idea what can it mean? Does anything in this movie means anyhting? :)

    2) Also when Bruce Willis drives with the cab running away after the fight, the background is ... weird!. Ya know, usually when there's scene in a car driving, the background is always a street screne moving which is supposed to make the illusion that it really is recorded like that. Well here Taranatino does the same BUT, the background is BLACK-WHITE!!?!? No colors. ???

ANGRA - Fireworks DAEMONARCH - Hermeticum ELECTRIC WIZARD - Supercoven HIM - Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666 SUPERIOR - Younique

Fed up of hearing about Clinton/Lewinsky and the cigar? Try this address for a different view of things:

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: ELECTRIC WIZARD - Supercoven (just playing this album gets you stoned!)
