Ok I'm really new at this computer/internet thing. I'm just wondering and
I feel really stupid asking this. What is MP3? I hear it mentioned all
the time on the jam, but I havn't a clue what it is. I've been stuck in a
shell too long with only my bass.

?!?!?! Does this mean that if Dokken is scheduled to play a live show
somewhere, and the band actually appears on a stage, REB BEACH will be playing
a guitar on that stage simultaneously with the rest of the band and their
respective instruments? My bet is that if an Ibanez Voyager makes any
appearances at all, it'll be a plain wood finish instead of the hot blues or
    purples of the Winger days...

The wrestlers name is indeed Raven and he wore his Dead Winter Dead shirt AGAIN on WCW Nitro this week.... Jon Oliva said he is good friends with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, while Chris Caffrey is good friends with Raven.

Well, if that wasn't clear, I knew that you were talking about the "Take the Time" MP3. It was really obvious, but hey, mailing lists shouldn't be only about serious stuff (if we can call music a serious thing :-) ).

Also, the puctuation wasn't right for the intepretation I gave (if there was a comma between "God" and "I", then that would be a completely different story).

Hi, the WCW guy wearing the Savatage t-shirt is known as Raven. in fact, last night (9/21), he wore a Dead Winter Dead shirt. interesting wrestler, used to have this mind control thing over a group of wrestlers known as his "Flock". he lost it. kind of twisted guy, likes pain (will smile in submission holds, and pass out from the pain before giving up). he's also been known to wear Sandman (the DC Character created by Neil Gaiman, an EXCELLENT read!) t-shirts.

In a few days time I'll be temporarily unsubscribing from The Jam because I'm going to university, so it'll probably take me a couple of weeks to get my e-mail sorted out up there. If anyone wants to get hold of me, the e-mail address in my sig will still work, but I may not pick up my e-mail for a week or so. I may have to reply to anything using my Hotmail account, but I can still pick up e-mail aimed at the address below, just not send out from it until I've got it set up properly.

So I'll see you(r posts) in a couple of weeks time (hopefully). I'll still be subscribed until Saturday anyway.

    HYDRA - Rock Experience FRANCE Rating: * * * * 1997 BRENNUS BR 8026.AR Playing time: 45:07

H=FFdra are: Chris Martzolf: Lead Vocals Pascal Lemoine: Guitars Jeace Rat-Patron: Keyboards Nicolas Sanson: Bass Francois Guinault: Drums

H=FFdra is a French band that has been around since 1994, but this is their debut CD. The members of the band are from The Alpes. They are playing a melodic Progressive Metal I think would attract lovers of Dream Theater. I think that tracks like "Cross Section" would appeal to many Dream Theater fans. Other influences are early Bon Jovi, Magnum, Rush, Saga and Vow Wow.

All musicians have qualifications from French high schools of Music (CMCN, Conservatories) and they are really good. The music is going through many changing atmospheres and complex harmonies with many surprises and qualities. Unfortunately the singer has got a rather obvious French accent on some tracks. Maybe they had better singed in their native language French. But that doesn't bother me that much.

My favourite track is "Silently" that has got a guest appearance by Fabienne Champey on lead vocals. Other highlights are "Heaven knows" and "Remembrance of a Day past" together with the aforementioned "Cross Section".

This is the only French progressive rock band I've heard that could compete with progressive rock bands from the rest of the world.

    MANIGANCE - Signe De Vie FRANCE Rating: * * * 1997 BRENNUS BR 8024.AR Playing Time: 31:28

Manigance is a new band in the metal scene, put together by members from a various other French bands in 1995. Now they have recorded a 6 track CD with melodic power heavy metal with some progressive touches. I don't know why they only did a 6 track CD when they could have done a full-length album. This makes the CD rather short, only 31 minutes. Not much music for the money (in length), but really good music and musicians instead, making this a really well done debut. Their influences can be found in such different groups as Dream Theater, Toto, Pretty Maids, Van Halen and Whitesnake.

All the vocals are done in French by a very strong singer. It's a good move to sing in French to avoid the French accent you can hear with, for example, the French band H=FFdra. The singer is really above the average, with a touch of David Coverdale. He's the kind of singer you wished had joined Iron Maiden instead of Blaze Bayley. The guitarists and the drummer are really good too, and the album has got a clean nice sound.

This album is really exciting, but unfortunately they don't have as strong melodies as their fellow countrymen Arsenic, H=FFdra and Trust has. Although they are very technically skilled it will take some time before you begin to recognise the individual tracks. But after all, this is a good starter for the future!

    Hi folx,

I noticed there's certain interest in EMG humbuckers, so I thought I can give you some input on that. (NDTC) EMG 81 (bridge), SA (middle) and 85 (neck) came stock on my custom Sever guitar. 81 is the ultimate crunch pickup, though it requires a big tube amp for good sound, I don't have too good experiences with solid states. The harmonics and sustain that you get from this sucker will beat anything in the marker. But beware, it's one purpose pickup only, shred namely. Don't even attempt to get good clean sound with it on bridge. The SA definately sounds like single coil, but it's nothing near your usual strat sound. I guess it's great if you use it with multi fx processors but it tends to sound a bit sterile and thin otherwise, especially in the bridge position. The 85 in the neck position sounds like heaven to me. Rich fat sound with sustains that goes on and on like Duracell bunny. I like the way it sounds in clean mode too and I'm definately interested in how it would sound on bridge position (anyone?) I guess people have love/hate relationship with these pickups, but I'm a sucker for active electronics so it suits me more than fine.

I ordered a Clapton Fender signature strat and it should come in a couple of weeks. Can anyone give me any opinions about this axe? Quality, sound, feel etc..

    Thanx a bunch...

    Matej

NP: TTT with Rudess I admire this fella's virtuosity, but I kinda don't dig his sound. Must be something with the mp3 cause I loved the sound he had live in Pordenone. I still preffer Derek's sound, sounds more DTish to me :O)

hi jammers, ok, after finding out that winamp for mac is macamp(hi jerry), installing and finally listening to TTT feat. JR I can only say that as far as taste - musically and also socially, as proven earlier on this venue - Mr. Calvin6S proves to be a reliable source of information - to me. >Okay the countless "Jordan's TTT performance rules, why isn't Rudess in DT?" is getting stupid. I've listened to the TTT mp3 a couple of times and I can't see the reason why such conclusions as "Jordan is amazing" can be drawn. The last few minutes show whether or not Jordan FITS DT and I think those few minutes of improv speak clearly - HE DOESN'T. His improve lines are very repetitive and pattern driven. They aren't BAD, but they just aren't all that exciting. His technique is almost flawless (probably flawless if he had more time to prepare), but it just seems to be lacking in terms of flair. <

I like this version very much because one of my fav. parts in this song("I think it's time for a chaaaaaaaaaange..") is well performed and the unisono ending is something special. As far as the outro solo is concerned I agree w/Calvin 100%, indeed had an idea whose outro solo I'd like to listen to. I will not post it on the list, because we know who the current members of DT are, who makes DT what it is and I don't want to start another threat. If you are not happy with it, don't listen to it, or elect another band to be your favorite.

Nevertheless a nice song by a nice band
