    Hi there!

I was just wondering if you could give me some advice when it comes to the music of Yes and Genesis. I have listened to "Classic Yes" and "A trick of the tail", and I'm a big fan of 'em both! So, what should my next purchase be?

Now, I bet you all have different opinions on this, therefore I ask you to e-mail me PRIVATELY with any recommendations - not only will the risk of an unnecessary discussion be eliminated, it will also save some bandwidth... :-)

    Thanx in advance!

You can check out new mp3s at Images And Words band's page:
     http://www.webcom.com/rdellapi/iw/
Great covers, I can only say! I also liked that You Not Me cover
from Ship of Fools. However I feel a little bit confused because I
also know a band with this name, but they play instr. music in the
style of Ozric Tentacles (let's say psychadelic rock).

I'm making a 'DT cover mp3s' page, I hope I'll be ready next week.
If you have any DT or DT related cover song, please contact me!
I will tell the URL when it's up.

    Cheers,
    Bungle

Thanks for the kind words, Adam! Very soon I will have some more mp3's up
of their shit, both originals and covers. They also do some Rush
(Dreamline, Subdivisions, La Villa..), Van Halen, Lukather, and more. When
I get em up, I'll post. Peace...

Last night I saw Darkside, Therion, Moonspell and Anathema.

What a fantastic evening! I am in love with the three female Therion
singers, especially the short cute brunette who stands on the right, and
the tall one who stands on the left. Can anyone tell me who they are? Are
these the same people who appear on Vovin?

Moonspell are blessed with a singer who looks utterly evil, a guitarist who
knows who to use his wah-wah pedal *tastefully* (no Kirk-Hammett-Wanky-Wah
    here), and some fine tunes.

    Anathema's performance was superb.

Why was the crowd full of 13 and 14 year old girls? I had to carefully
watch who I was bumping into, in case I found myself being arrested for
    indecent assault or something . . .

no, there is nothing wrong with it. it is just on Geffen's Goldline (ie: budget). shortly after they got dumped by Geffen and picked up by Metal Blade, Geffen decided to reissue their CDs.

    >While Im on the topic, what is good starter material for GC?

their self-titled is a cheap one to start on. also a great start is "Space in your Face," but it's been harder to find of late. also, their newest one "At the End of the Day" really kicks, IMO. i've got a lot more info on my site, if you need it.

Well, they just finished up a mini-tour of the east coast, so I don't think they'll be doing that anytime particularly soon, since they were in NJ/PA (the NY gig was cancelled) just a week or so ago. I'm still really pissed that I missed out on this. I'll spare you all the details though. If they do decide to do a couple concerts, I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the tri-state area again, as they often do stuff there.

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

Brian H. remarked: >I know what you mean, so many bands are hyped on the jam, I had big >expectations for S-X. Like you, I was a little disappointed at first, >but they really grow on you, especially the vocals. For me, they now >surpass the high expectations that I originally had!

You shoult pick up "The Divine Wings of Tragedy". "Twilight in Olympus," while a very good album in its own right, does not live up to the pure excellence of TDWOT. The title track is simply amazing, and all of the songs are excellent.

Lobsterback (another Brian H.) inquired: >Friend of mine and I are having a bit of a musical trivia argument. >Perhaps there's somebody out there who could shed light on this topic: >Was Steve Vai ever in Savatage and/or did he ever play with them? >(BTW, I'm the one siding with "no".)

They might be thinking of Alex Skolnick. Alex, another guitar hero, was in Savatage for the recording of "Handful of Rain". To the best of my knowledge Vai was never in Savatage.

I have to agree - what an excellent idea, I can't believe that this hasn't happened before. I thought this was a very well done cover, and a really good quality mp3 for a live performance. Lets keep the YTSECOVERS going.

You know, I've been reading the Jam for some time now and I've seen many, many bands mentioned here every day. Actually I would think this isn't hard to find. I found it at Best Buy Tuesday when I was getting the new KISS cd (which by the way rocks, maybe be the best KISS since Lick It Up). The new GC is much better than Machine Fish. I feel it isn't as heavy as MF and has more of the harmony vocals that make GC, GC.

Hi Lawrence. You are not alone. The DTIFC has had some problems but I found out a few months back the address to send to. Here is the info.

Send $20 CASH, not a personal check or money order, inside a simple greeting card or something to conceal the money and address it here:

Dream Theater International Fan Club Headquarters Address: D.T.I.F.C. P.O. Box 1067, Caterham, Surrey CR3 5ZU, England

You will need to include a note clearly printed with your full NAME, ADDRESS, ZIP, Email Address, and BIRTHDATE.

I believe they only require $18 but it's easier to just stick in a $20 bill and tell them to just keep the change.

That should do it. Anyone who hasn't yet joined the DT International Fan Club can benefit from this information. JOIN UP !!! You won't regret it.

hi fellow jammers, after the honor of two EOJ in one week, I think it would be appropiate to put some content in my messages again.

Well, sometimes I tend to buy a disc and not listen to it until exhaustion. While listening to Comedy and Tragedy two interesting thoughts came to my mind: Has anybody noticed the supercool drum fill in Tragedy's Surrounded at 2:57? It's basically the same stuff as the drum theme in Under a Glass Moon. I like that fill. Nevermind.

Secondly, it's been almost 3 years since a change of seasons was released and I am sure that you talked about it a lot, but for the year I am on, nobody discussed it: When I was listening to the Live in Long Island II and Comedy versions of ACOS it struck me how different VI.the inevitable summer parts are compared to the later release.(I never listened that much to them, because I like the 1995 better) How do you feel about the reworked part and has your perception changed during the period from release to now? I dig the 1995 version 100% and have no problem w/voting for song of millenium(hi jerry), because I think it's brilliant. The vocal lines and the arrangement works better for me and I think the old summer was just a little too much showing off.Comments?

Well, shut the fuck up Donnie and, guys, be excellent to each other.. schnipp

Well, I haven't pissed anyone off in a while, so I figured I'd reply to some jam posts.

    > How many vocalists does it take to change a light bulb? > None. They just wait until the world revolves around them.

wait, wait, wait. It really goes like this:

Q: How many vocalists does it take to change a light bulb?

A: ONE. He holds the bulb and the world just revolves around him.

If you wish to tell this joke to classical musicians, you can replace "vocalists" with Tenors or Sopranos. (or trumpet--any of the high, loud things...)

    Here's some more:

Q: How many altos does it take to change a light bulb? A: Ten. One or two to actually do it right and the rest to complain that it's too high.

    Q: How many basses does it take to change a light bulb? A: I-V-I-V-I-V... (1, 5, 1, 5...)

Wow. That's too bad. Why do some of the best bands (that happen to be on Metal Blade) not even make enough money to scrape by? First Joe DiBiase from Fates (even though I like Joey MUCH better), and now Alan. It's really sad that the people who make the big decisions in the music industry so vehemently deplore talent.

    > As far as I'm concerned, "Break" is hands-down the best Enchant album, so > far. We've developed a much more original sound, I think (adding > alternative and grunge elements into the melting pot), and I feel pretty

How do you develop a more original sound by synthesizing some of the most unoriginal styles out there right now? Maybe by original it means "we're not ripping off Dream Theater NEARLY as much as we used to..."

    > refrain. I will say that keyboards _is_ what's lacking in FII, > probably becuase it just wasn't written into the songs.

    Huh?

New Millenium, Hell's Kitchen, Lines in the Sand, and Anna Lee were ALL written around the keyboards.

I can't think of a GENERAL thing lacking in the whole of FII [the first person who says "integrity" gets an ASCII-middle finger! :)]. I don't like in Peruvian Skies how the cymbals sound like they were recorded right next to my ears and the toms sound like they were recorded from the next room, and I don't like the decision to eliminate the piano/falsetto vocal section from You or Me in You Not Me (apart from that, though, You Not Me is a V A S T improvement over You or Me). FII is the best of all the DT albums. Unless, of course, you need you prog to have the most obvious displays of musicianship possible. All the musicianship is there in FII, it's just more subtle that in, say, I&W.
