To all of you DT nuts in Dallas....My band is playing twice around Dallas
this Saturday, and while we sound more like Primus instead of DT, we throw
little bits and pieces such as the Ytsejam, take the time, and some LTE. So
if you get bored, come check us out! We're playing at 3:30 at The Light
Spot in Kaufman, TX for a benefit bash($10 for 15 bands) Then at 7:00 at
    GPI/ God's Place in Hurst,TX. That price is only $5, and it's a hardcore
jam/ battle of the bands type thing. If anyone is interested, email me and
I can get you directions or something. Later!!

Well, I'm not saying, "Hey! I want Headbanger's Ball back, and I want MP or JP to be able to go to the grocery store without getting mobbed if Max Portnoy or Kiara Petrucci needs some Gerber baby food." Sure, I'd like DT to get more $$ so that we can have nice DT products like DT DVD, John Myung action figures with the tae kwon do (sp?) grip, Nike Air Petrucci hiking boots, or Derek Sherinian Underoos... well maybe not the Underoos. I don't know if your trying to say that I personally want it both ways. I don't think I do.

I guess my question(s) is/are...do we care enough about DT getting more airplay to petition for things like Headbanger's Ball? Do we give a damn about MTV bringing us OFB, metal, prog, or whatever? Or are we content to let DT have the status they have? Obviously, people have been moved to petition for the recording and release of ACOS.

I guess another way to state what I'm thinking is the following: Assuming that there is enough of a metal appreciation/following or even a prog following to make it profitable for MTV to air those genres, do we give a damn if they do? I don't. I guess I'm willing to forego the opportunity to by my Air Petrucci hiking boots to let MTV die. Consider it my personal sacrifice to rid the planet of that cancer and its cousins.

But, of course, that point of view doesn't get at the fact that the more DT CDs move off the shelves, the better OFB can support their families. They just have more room to pay for the kids' educations, make the minivan payments, or whatever. I would assume that goes for every other near-unknown band or artist that people on this list are interested in. Of course, it would be nice for those things to happen for those families and individuals.

Hopefully, DT and others will survive without MTV.

But...if MTV dies, might people not be forced into being more open-minded about music? Well...maybe not. I don't know. Just rambling.

Walrus snot, no. However, I've heard that Whale Intestinal Fluid does wonders in keeping a trombone slide well greased.

Lucifer's Friend's first album was actually released in '73, but Al was close enough. I found a copy of _Where Groupies Killed the Blues_ as an import in my local Tower several months back. As I recognized the name of the group from reading the liner notes of Uriah Heep's Innocent Victim (John Lawton was in both groups), I picked it up, and have been searching for other albums by LF. So far, no luck. I've also unsuccessfully looked for Lawton's new group Gunhill. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Last night, in my dreams (don't remember what I was dreaming about, all I remember is this), I heard a techno-funk version of the Way it Used to Be playing on a radio... complete with that weird funk guitar sound.... kowaii (scary)

MP3.com will soon be launching an official website for the Alanis and Tori 5 1/2 Weeks tour... you can register at http://www.alanisandtori.com to be advised when the site is up... you can find tour dates there right now.

]From SonicNet: "The still-to-be-launched site will include songs from both singers in addition to concert webcasts, interviews, chats and tour photos. It's undecided at this point whether Morissette's cut will be a live track or a B-side. Amos' song will be an unreleased track, possibly taken from the double CD (featuring one live disc and one studio disc) she plans to release in the fall."

This information was posted to the ToriTour mailing list: ----------------------------------------------------------------- Amos To Give Full Shows On Tour Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette

Don't expect any catfighting this August when Alanis Morissette and Tori Amos hit the road together in their recently announced 5 1/2 Weeks Tour this fall (allstar, April 25). According to Scott Welch, Morissette's manager at Atlas/Third Rail Entertainment, although it will be his client who will close the co-headlining affair nightly, both singers will be on equal footing. "Usually in a show with an opening act situation, they use the same lights and same production," Welch explained in a press conference regarding the tour on Tuesday (April 27) at Hotel Nikko in Beverly Hills, Calif. "We're taking it a step further. Tori is going to have her own stage set. So when you see her set, it's going to look like you've gone to a Tori show. It's going to have her signature on it, and the same with Alanis."

Welch went on to explain that both singers will perform a full concert set and have their own production, lights, and overall stage design. In essence, similar to jaunts in recent years by Billy Joel and Elton John, fans will be getting two full concerts plus an opening act each night. Opening acts for the 5 1/2 Weeks Tour will be chosen by Morissette and Amos from a list of some 10,000 MP3.com artists -- that is, artists who have made their songs available for streaming or downloading on MP3.com, a leader in emerging music/Internet technologies. MP3.com, along with Best Buy, will sponsor the 5 1/2 Weeks Tour and make available to the public previously unreleased tracks from both artists leading up to the tour's kickoff in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. on Aug. 18.

Arthur Spivak, Amos' manager at Spivak Entertainment, knows juggling the intimate stage settings of two high-profile acts will be a challenge. "It's not as easy as one would think to move a grand piano [on and off a stage]," he said. "There are a lot of logistics involved." - -- Kevin Raub -----------------------------------------------------------------

Damnation! My friend accidentally sends a message to the 'jam and _he_ gets an EOJ. What a gyp.

Just so you know, I was setting up my xbiff++ with some sound bindings, and it plays a little clip of Mike shouting "Fasten your seatbelts!" when a ytsejam arrives in my mailbox. I was testing it yesterday by changing my e-mail address in netscape to ytsejam@ax.com and sending mail to myself. I forgot to change it when I mailed Ben this morning, he hit reply to mail me, and the rest you know. I apologise for the waste of bandwidth, but since his message is thoroughly confusing and un-dt related I thought it warranted explaining.

    Hey,

My friend from England has recently hooked up with his old band, INTENSE. They are rebuilding the band with new members and pushing they're CD, building on past successes and writing new material. I would class them as Power Metal, leaning heavily on NWOBHM, but looking forward with influences from DT, Megadeth, Kamelot, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian and Savatage to name but a few. It's all good stuff and well worth some interest from my fellow YTSE-ers I think.

The reason I'm mentioning this now is that they've finally got some MP3s up on their site, which to me is a must, in the words of my mate Nick:

    >they're only snippets, but it gives people a taste of the sort of stuff that's on the >first CD... (The newer stuff is slightly different - more melody and >shit - but we haven't recorded any of that yet...)

So go to the link below and enter The Dark Season, I'm sure they'd welcome any feedback.

    Cheers,

Dave (a UK jammer - now in Alabama).

I dunno if this is available anywhere, maybe barried on some unknow site or somehting, but a pal sent them to me so here it goes, for all interested:

"Don't Look Past Me" (06:21) - (Studio - "Subconscious" CD) [Demo done with John Hendricks on vocals. Also available ] [with James LaBrie on vocals on the "Antiquities" CD.] - Kevin Moore

"I don't know, I feel a lot of distance and I feel far away. I'll see you later..." [Sample from ???.]

I have seen you born before me I have watched you die I have heard every word you said to me

Leave no question in your mind There is no brighter star to guide you Don't look past me to the sun, the sun is I I am the sun...

So close the door behind him He wanders slowly to the car Trying to lift his heavy heart He says...

"I feel bad about this. I feel really bad about this. Just, just let me feel bad about this." [Sample from ???.]

I'm through just getting by Countless times a friend has told me Watch out for the wave Now it seems the sea will be my grave And still you swim to save me Even though the water is much colder now Even though the water is much colder now

Sometimes you can act on intuition Sometimes you can use a different point of view I've found that in such a position I could always come to you (Sun) I've seen you weep I have seen you tired and lonely (without you) But it only takes one heart (one heart) To lift you up and send you on Can you understand the life I've shown you Understand it's me, I'm giving you

I have seen you born before me I have watched you die I have heard every word you said to me

I have no question in my mind There's been no brighter star to guide me I don't look past you to the sun, so don't look past me to the sun, The sun is...

And so love is broken They're asking me how can you help When you don't even know how that feels I don't need one thousand reasons When someone starts to cry When someone says my heart needs lifting Don't ask how come, ask how high

I have seen you born before me I have watched you die I have heard every word you said to me

Leave no question in your mind There is no brighter star to guide you Don't look past me to the sun, the sun is I

Leave no question in your mind There is no brighter star to guide you Don't look past me to the sun, (it knows where you are) _____________________________________________________________ "To Live Forever" (04:54) (Studio - from the "Lie" single) - John Petrucci

If I'd started from the top And worked my way down There'd be no reason To live forever To live forever

The starvation has turned Me outside in And the wind has blown Me halfway across the world Across the world

Why was I born In an age of distrust I'd offered some change For a photograph

It will always stay the same [**A**] You will always be the same

Until I saw the desire for revenge My heart never once went astray As long as I have to die in the attempt Then there is no reason To live forever

I found you where They left you there A passing word that's gone forever

And searching my memory for answers I saw the words of a letter you wrote She said "You don't have to live forever, You don't want to live forever." And everything's changing now I don't want to live forever.

[Alternate ending - (Live in Tokyo Home Video)] [Beginning at **A** above] It will always stay the same Always be the same

Until I saw the desire for revenge My heart never once went astray As long as I have to die in the attempt Then there is no reason To live forever

Until I saw the desire for revenge As long as I have to die in the attempt If I had to charge the attack Let me No reason (4 times) To Live Forever

[Alternate ending - (Studio acoustic version - "Subconscious" CD)] [Recorded as James LaBrie's vocal audition.] [Beginning at **A** above] It will always stay the same Always be the same

Until I show desire for revenge My heart never once went astray As long as I have to die in the attempt Then there'd be no reason To live forever

Until I show desire for revenge As long as I have to die in the attempt (2 times) Then there'd be no reason No reason (2 times) To Live Forever (2 times) "This just in from Baghdad... Seven patriot missiles have been spotted above Cuba."
