I recall asking myself the same thing when I first read the FAQ over four years ago. The subject has been discussed a few times since then. The Silent Man connection is clear and obvious, but some people also find the part that follows that section to be reminiscent of the chorus of CiaW. I can hear the similarities, but I don't think it was intentional. Also, if you listen closely in Voices, you can hear the opening keyboard riff to Erotomania in the part right before the Primo guy says "This is not reality..." In general, I think it's a stretch to say that Erotomania is made up of other songs. That should probably be removed from the FAQ or reworded somehow or else this question will continue to pop up on the Jam.

After lurking for a little while, not wanting or caring to add anything constructive, this little gem made me bust a gut.
King Korg, a 20 foot tall walking keyboard hanging on the side of the Empire State Building derived: >"Internal Rectal Bleeding"
Anything we should know, Korg? And you're right; band names are butt easy to come up with. My old band was called Popcan, and that took our guitarist about 2 seconds to think up. I'm kinda partial to Aquaking from Slumber, but that could be my Quake II fetish speaking.
Partha infamously inscribed in the ytsejournal of time: >statue of limitations on pointlessness has expired
If I ever become famous and they want to erect something for me (get your mind out of the gutter!) I want a Statue of Limitations. That could also be a good band name...
Finally, Zaphod inquired: >On another note: what is this Gordian Knot thing?
Solo project deal by Sean Malone, featuring John Myung on 2 songs, Trey Gunn, Sean Reinert, Ron Jarzombek, and Glenn Snelwar. There is only the one album with this lineup, Sean, I believe, has a few other albums under his belt. It's available from Laser's Edge, but I found it in my local Border's. Lucky me.

I've always thought of Erotomania as a kind of "overture" for the Mind By Itself Trilogy. I've never noticed it carrying any snippets of songs outside of that.. I thought it had parts from both Voices and The Silent Man, but I can't think of any at the moment. If I were to label Erotomania though, that's what it'd be. An overture for the other 2 songs.

Like shit.
Well, it depends upon the singer. If they got some deepvoice vocals from most Metal bands, then yes, they would sound like shit. But imagine if they had Eric Adams, from Manowar. Or maybe the singer from Type O'Negative. I think both of these guys have have wonderful deep voices. I would really like to hear either of these guys sing in a DT song. Eric Adams has a great vocal range and is very smooth. IMO Eric's voice is just like a deeper LaBrie voice. Now, if they could get some of the choral parts that are in many Manowar songs, it would be really great. Feel free to rape and pillage my comments.....

You Think? well I guess it all depends on the song. Heavy songs, probably would sound cool with a deep song, but songs like Another Day, maybe not.

Except that (At least on Theli) the choir and orchestral stuff is quite average ho-hum, nothing special. I could do better. :P Therion should stick to Rock stuff. the 3 bonus "basic rock" tracks on Theli were twice as good as anything else on the album.

Errr..... Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't "The Healing Colors of Sound" actually like SIX minutes, not twenty?
Healing Colors of Sound (Part 1) 2:22 Healing Colors of Sound 3:17
I don't think the other songs (My Shoes, Mommy Comes Back, Lay It Down, and My Shoes(revisited)) are all part of the same song, are they? If so, I don't see it mentioned anywhere......

Actually yeah, they are all part of the same piece... but for some reason they decided to make them seperate tracks on the cd.
Neal mentioned it a while ago on the mailing list... there's a bit of his post on DPRP's Spock's Beard page: http://www.dprp.vuurwerk.nl/bands/spocks/

Ok, I think JL is perfect for the stuff they come out with... but if, I mean *if* there had to be a deeper voiced type singer there, I would say Chuck Billy... the guy is deep, high, *and* can scream... JL is only missing the deep part. Ol Chuck is probably my 2nd fave vocalist (only the Skolnick years though).
