    it? And why does it have a Mindcrime era logo on it? Was it
    re-released at that time or something?

    The QR EP was released on CD after Mindcrime was released on CD.
    Apparently, EMI was lazy and just decided to use the band's current
    logo.

    I can't complain though - there is a killer version of Prophecy on the

    For all those of you who are upset about this "image vs. playing ability"
    debate, i got a good little story for you. I used to be a HUGE Pantera fan
    and most of the girls i hung out with thought that the "loud and
    unproductive" music i liked was horrible. I loved the shit, but the thing
    was, she (my girlfriend) always used to tell me how she thought that pic on
    my wall of "some guy" was one of the hottest guys shes ever seen. (She was
    speaking of a poster of Philip Anselmo of Pantera i have on my wall--along
    with the rest of the band of course) After i told her that he was
    responsible for the "loud and unproductive" music she constantly ratted on,
    she actually started to listen to the music and starting paying attention to
    my reaction the their music. After that, I became a HUGE Dream Theater fan
    and i havent seen her in a few weeks.....oh well......i guess life works like
    that sometimes. :)

            Picked up the new AMORPHIS cd, it is quite good. Of course
            everyone needs to mention the change in their sound. It is quite
            different. They sound a lot like new SENTENCED material now.
            The bands pretty much did the same exact thing, changing from
            an extreme sound to a calmer one. It has all clean singing
            with only one song with harsh vocals. This is a solid album
            with great melodies and a full sound. There is even a sitar.

            There is a good article on NIGHTWISH in the new Terrorizer
            with a review of a show and a nice picture of them live.
            
            ICED EARTH and NEVERMORE will be at the Whiskey in HOllywood
            May 13th? I think. Anyways it is a thursday and tickets are
            only $10!!!!

                    It is not confirmed yet, but my brother's band might
            record in Mark Zonder's studio with Vera producing

    Who says rock band guys are ugly? Maybe they're not leading men, but by and large, they are lean and usually good looking. How many fat rock stars are there? There's a few, but unfortunately, just a few. You have meatloaf, the blues traverer guy(john popper? poppas?), aaaaand maybe shawn lane. In that wizard of oz video for blues traveler, they don't even show the fatty, they just show that skinny guy dancing around. he isn't even singing. what a fucking farce. See, fat people get screwed, there's no two ways about it. JFK had an affair with Marilyn Monroe, and people don't seem to give a rat's ass. But go ahead and have an affair with a fat girl, and all hell breaks loose. And don't even get me started on career success. Everybody knows that thin, pretty people do much better in the work place, particularely in our 20's and 30's. Later on, when nobody's horny anymore, it matters slightly less. Plus a lot more people gain weight with age, so that's an equalizer.

    Anyway, I haven't really been following this britney spears/vanilla ice/apsog thing, because it's the SAME ARGUMENT we've seen on the list, over and over and over and over and over again! ah! ah! ahhhhhh!

    I just wanted to point out that it may not be the *cause* of their success, but appearance is important and neccesary for pretty much any musician.

    "Take another listen"? I've listened to the ACOS disc more than any other DT disc I own (Okay, so I have a really bad ear. :) ), and happen to love the "coffee can" snare sound. I just hear other people disparaging it frequently. And in my defense, I do remember reading here (the last time this discussion came up, about a year back) that the drums on ACOS *were* triggered. :)

    Hey Korg is right on when he says that Roland V Drums are a blast. They certainly are great, but I'm not really sure about for recording. I guess I'm really a purist and find that electronics are cool for practicing when you need to be quiet and not keep the neighbors. After jamming for about 5 years everyday, I can tell you that my neighbors are just about ready to pay for my college education to get me out of the house :) Anyway, acoustic drums are a bitch to properly record, but wow do they ever sound so much better than electronics!

    Well, for the guy who wanted DT style bands...I've gone and searched long and hard on that quest too. Starting with the 70's, some bands I found some good progressive stuff in is Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes, and Kansas...going later on, metal type prog I really like Fates Warning. From what I'm hearing, Spock's Beard is also very good, as is Symphony X and Angra. Don't know much about any of those, but you may want to try those out.

    As for the Britney thing, she's a girl that popped up to jump on the teeny-bopper bandwagon at the right time. She started opening up for N'Sync concerts over in Baton Rouge, and then all of a sudden she got big. Does her looks help??? Of course they do, but then any type of thing that is being targeted towards kiddies is going to be looks-oriented. Sure, the DT guys aren't bad looking, I wish I looked that good, I'd probably have chicks all over me, but since their audience is more adult, they don't have the little 13 year old girls swooning all over them. If they played the type of music that 13 year olds would want to hear, then they'd probably be huge, because their music and looks would appeal to that kiddie audience. As for adults who like Britney, well, as someone who really tried not to like her music, that one song is catchy as hell, even though it's gay as shit....:) Besides, seeing her bounce around in a Catholic school uniform in that video helped things out too...hehe...And for me, living here in New Orleans, it's also kind of intriguing knowing she's from South Louisiana too, and one day I could run into her somewhere, and oh the things that would be done to her...hehe(I hear she got breast implants too, what a surprise...heh) Oh well, enough of being oversexed about Britney, back to listening to some Chicago....:)

    With all the great comments on Nightwish I am just going to have to check 'em out. Where can I find a website? I havn't been able to find their cds at the local shop, or at CDNow and Amazon. Where can I buy them at?

    Maybe I'm getting the wrong impression here (if so, sorry!), but I think you've missed the point. I'm just saying that good looks won't sell records alone - it's all down to MARKETING. No-one's going to pretend that any of the Backstreet Boys are better looking than any of DT; and yet BB sell more records than DT, because of their looks. Why? Because they're marketed on their looks, whilst DT are marketed on their music. Derek Sherinian may be the sexiest man walking this planet right now, but that still won't get "Planet X" to number 1.

    Yeah, I played one, they rule. I did however, end up with a Yamaha DTX instead (with no regrets whatsoever). These have the harder rubber pads and take a little getting used to, but once you've adjusted they are too cool, you can carry off all the subtle nuances if you know what you're doing and it's great for a drummer to be able to challenge a keyboardist for a change... I would love to have MP round to my house and show me some crazy shit on my DTX, it would be a different direction for him, and I could make him tea!

    PS. Britney Spears is not that pretty (IMHO), the thing that gets people excited is the fact that she's 17 and dances around in a school uniform. For some reason my 5 year old daughter has allowed her to push the Spice Girls off of her top spot though...

    That's not necessarily true, most triggers now are velocity sensitive. I don't know what trigger/brain combination Mike used, but ddrum triggers have someting like 1000 levels of sensitivity.
