I'm a bit of a Kubrick fan, and I have great respect for the man. I don't
always get into him as much as everyone else, but I love what he's done for
film. However I really was blown away by Eyes Wide Shut, and it might make
my pick for best movie of the year. My favs are Dr. Strangelove, Clockwork
    Orange, and Eyes Wide Shut.

I am actually listening to the new Ratt CD as a write. I don't think bands
ever sold out, and are now buying back in, they just went through turmoil,
breakups, etc. I guess it was around 1993 or so, I remeber watching the
year in rock on MTV, and the big story was "Metal Meltdown" A bunch of
bands broke up or dropped out of the light at the same time. (Def Leppard,
Cinderella, ratt, Great White) you get the picture.
Now all these bands realize that they still have an audience, and
want to do what they did before. Def Leppard tried a different direction
with Slang, which was a bomb. I personally like it, but that is just me.
Heavy musci went through a dormant period in the mid 90's. Anthrax,
Megadeth, DT, and Metallica all put albums, and kinda of carried the torch
for rock. Now all the old bands that were popular are making a second run.
There is nothing wrong with that. I WISH Sepultura would get back
together, and Tesla. that would rule.

Yikes. Ok. I grew up listening to Styx, as well as Kansas, and all the
classic rock groups of the late 70's early 80's. Blah blah... Anyway,
could somebody please point out to me with some concrete examples (ie.
songs!) of how Ice Age sounds like Styx, or even Kansas? I mean other than
the singer sounding like Dennis DeYoung, and possibly some keyboard
    sounds??? I don't hear anything else Styx-like. Which isn't a bad thing...
It just starts me wondering when somebody says Ice Age sounds like DT (which
they don't) and somebody counters that be saying they sound like Styx (which
other than the aforementioned singer, they don't) What am I not hearing?

    Also, I'm not flaming anybody!!!

Except maybe Ice Age. I've listened to the Great Divide many times, trying
to like it. I was hoping for another home run, like Dali's Dilemma. But to
me, IA needs to get a new singer/lyricist/melody writer. I like the parts
where there isn't any singing! ANd the lyrics are pretty juvenile, ie. The
Bottom Line... They have great potential, but some of the stuff sounds
    kinda sloppy at times.

And yes, I AM perfect :-) Seriously, JUST my opinion, no better than anyone
    elses...

This question has probably been answered 10 times already, but I haven't
been around for very long so here it goes.

I'm thinking about the vocals on the live songs on ACOS. Did they record
anything afterwards or is it all real live vocals? I'm asking cause I've
never heard James sing that good after that. On OIALT he doesn't even
come close. I'm not saying he sucks on OIALT, but I notice a difference.

    Hey everybody,

In an Internet newspaper here in Israel I found this: "Chat with
keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Alice Cooper, Kiss)", August 10, 3:00 (GMT
+0200), http://chat.yahoo.com. I think (I KNOW) that this is the first time
I ever hear/read anything about DT (related) stuff. I don't think that
anybody here know about them (I know few who does), so this message (in one
of the biggest newspaper here) almost knocked me off the chair. Shame,
however, that they didn't bother to mention that for four years Derek was
in DT, nor that the chat will probably be about Planet X. Anyway, check it
    out!
    Also:
Chat with The Moody Blues, http://chat01.asylum.com/studio-i , August 4,
    3:00 (GMT +0200)
    Chat with Uriah Heep, http://chat.yahoo.com , August 6, 5:00 (GMT +0200)

Can somebody tell me when did Derek played for Kiss or Alice Cooper (both
    of my favourite bands!)?

And I just had to share this dream I had about Dream Theater:
In my dream I woke up one morning, and passing by the television, which was
turned on channel 2 (the biggest here) I actually saw Dream Theater on T.V.
I haven't yet seen any of their videos, but in my dream they were playing
Another Day, and James LaBrie was playing on guitar. That was all I can
see. Anyway, it was nice to have such a good dream. (I guess it's a sign I
    should buy 5YiaLT)

??? No way! Is it really THAT little? :(
While it's true there's a lot work behind releasing album, where many
other folks are involved than the band, but the question is . OK then,
how much do you think a normal CD should cost, when all people involved
in the album release gets their fair ammount of money?

    > how can we make it easier for the artists to get the corporate

So, up 'till now record companies exist because bands are incapable of
    doing all the work right?
Is there any chance they move out of the way? Hmmm.... I don't think
they'll give up. It's not crazy to think of some new strict laws that
will apply to these matters, in order to "protect" the record labels.

P.S. This Ice Age vs. DT thread is already boring as hell!!!! And it's
the same old formula course as with all threads, everybody throws their
opinions and the final result is a fight and eveybidy still keeping
    their opinions! SO SHUT UP!!!

Actually, I think if we want to fuck with the brainwashed Korn fans, vote for Lie, not Hollow Years. Besides the fact that its heavy, its a 7 string song, which at least the guitar playing Korn fans will relate to more, think about it:

Korn fan says: "whoa cool, this band uses 7 string guitars too (Petrucci's solo comes on) and they can actually PLAY them!"

Its also the one video they did where it doesnt cut the song so bad that it makes it excruciating to listen to.

Some might not like them, but if you dig some great, moody, dare I use the word "gothic" (I hate using that term here, but people have called them that) metal with symphonic sensibilities, you'll dig these guys. Heard the latest Tourniquet song the other day (the very much plugged in tune that appears on their "Acoustic Archives" indie release). Definitely very heavy stuff. I really hope they continue in this direction.

I think a more appropriate question might be: Can we change this? The members of SG sound pretty anxious to hit the road and promote the record; I think Tarta Carta should support it. They are not the tiny, starving label they used to be. Even a few shows around the East Coast would help. There is enough of a progmetal fan base in PA, NY, NJ and OH to make it worthwhile. I think a petition is in order! How about a DT and SG tour after the new album is released in October? That would be awesome! We might have a better chance at that than getting DT on MTV, which would be pointless anyway.
