This goes in perfectly with my one and only plea to DT - for once
make it really WORTH going to two shows on one leg of the tour. As much as
I love the band I HATE the fact that they use the same setlist (more or
less) on each leg of the tour. They just seem to choose a set of several
songs that they want to play that tour and rarely, if ever, stray. How
about something unusual for once? TOWHTSTS (Mike whales on that song and
they haven't played it since early in the Awake tour)? What ever happened
to The Mirror? Surrounded? It would make the concerts much more
interesting if there's a chance of a surprise song here or there. So what
if most of the crowd doesn't recognize a song? They might like it. And is
it totally necessary to play the "Greatest Hits" every show? (Pull Me
Under - even James is "sick of that fucking song") DT isn't a pop band
the last time I checked. Maybe move out of the standard concert format
sometimes - I'd love to see something other than one of maybe two songs
opening a set (ie, ACOS 1/2 and LITS ad naseum this past tour). Basically,
I really hate having to avoid reading setlists posted on the 'Jam because I
know for sure I'm going to hear the exact same thing (or pretty darned
close) when I go to see them.
Just my wish... :)

Hi there, okay, I just saw The Blair Witch Project, and I liked it. It wasn't as creepy as I had hoped it would be, but maybe my expectations were just too high. Actually I thought it seemed to be more inspired by The Texas Chainsaw Massacre than Cannibal Holocaust, at least concerning the whole mood and some details that I don' t want to spoil for anyone that hasn't seen it.
The main reason for this post was that I wanted to mention another film that fits into this little sub-genre of the pseudo-documentary. It's a Belgian film called C'est Arrive Pres de Chez Vous. The English title is Man Bites Dog. I think it's from 1992, and it totally floored me when I saw it back then. Highest possible recommendation from me. Check it out if you haven't already and if you're interested in films beyond the mainstream...

I thought the Twilights Call (intro) was a bit repetitive, but I was impressed by the other tracks, especially "Fountain of Dreams". I liked the keyboard/guitar combination. I'm really looking forward to their adding a singer -- I think a good vocal melody on top of the music could make for some really cool songs.

I would not call them prog. I got there from the prog metal page true, but if you notice, they had links from heavy metal, black metal, goth metal and prog metal... I'd say they are atmospheric, but definitely not proggy or highly technical. Proggy maybe in that they use keys more up front than most metal bands, I dunno... Oh, and thanks for posting something better than "I thought they sucked" as a negative review.

Not so much a "U.S. Tour" as a "California Tour"... Ah well, who am I to complain? I live in Pennsylvania, smack dab in the middle of arguably the best concert hotspot (mid-Atlantic region) of the U.S.
Speaking of which, anyone here go to the Philadelphia Gathering show beyond me? The Gathering was great, but the other bands were laughable. One band, Season of Mourning, was totally sequenced. The two guitarists and drummer (supplemented by a drum machine) were faking most of their parts and the dude controlling the sequencer (wore a cowboy hat, trench coat, and a spiked collar -- seemed very interested in making sure the strobe light was working, so as to ensure the band looked as cool and into their music as humanly possible) had it all hidden under a black cloth so you couldn't see what he was (or, more likely, wasn't) doing. No bassist. Their sequencer messed up during the final "song" and you could hear what they actually sounded like without its mechanical assistance. What a bunch of crap -- goth/industrial's Milli Vanilli.
Another thing I didn't understand was why the Gathering got bumped from top billing. Originally, the show was set as the Gathering. Then it switched to Switchblade Symphony...with Special Guests The Gathering. Switchblade Symphony was easily the least bad of the other band playing that evening, but there's no way they were better at anything (composition, playing, stage presence (unless you count repeated shouts of "You're so sexy!" to the crowd or complaining about a bootlegger in the audience as banter)) than the Euros. Many people, myself included, left soon after the Gathering was through (only about an hour set). ...and, now that I think about it, since when is the Gathering a goth band? Does not compute.
Powermad '99 -- I will not be there this year. There's no way Symphony-X could beat their performance at Powermad '98, so I will not be going so as to avoid an unavoidable let-down... Either that, or I'm just trying to shield my wallet from the vendor battering that would inevitably take place given my lack of will power when it comes to CD buying. I'm still reeling from my NEARfest expenditures.
One last thing -- to anyone that attended or didn't attend the NEARfest, and didn't already know, the concert's online now in sweet streaming Real Audio format.

Hey, what exactly did artisan put into the DVD release? I am unfortunately without a DVD player so i can't find out. But i do have the VHS version. Got it pre-viewed at blockbuster. Sure beats paying 90 some bucks for a new copy.
I am also eagerly awaiting any new material from Darren Aronofsky or Sean Gullette. I thought he was great in pi.

I had the pleasure of seeing Apocalyptica live last night. Great stuff. They played in a new venue here in Darmstadt, Germany, and I was glad (and surprised) to see it was sold out. The support band should have stayed at home. However, their shortcomings were more than compensated for by the four fiddling Finns. How they managed to get 4 cellos sounding so heavy was beyond me, and the attention to detail and accuracy in the cover versions was just amazing - the "guitar" solo at the end of Metallica's "One" simply had to be heard to be believed. The set consisted mainly of their now famous Metallica covers, including "One", "Nothing Else Matters" (a real highlight), "Enter Sandman", "Sad But True", "The Unforgiven" and "Master Of Puppets", which got the crowd singing along. They also played some of their own compositions which were very heavy and quite bizarre. The real killers for me were Pantera's "Domination" (including the solos), Slayer's "South Of Heaven" and the ultra fast and ultra heavy version of Sepultura's "Inquisition Symphony". Simply unbelievable. Some people were head banging, but others, myself included, were shaking their heads, hardly believing what our ears and eyes were telling us. The albums are OK, but live, Apocalyptica are a real experience not to be missed.
Just another 2 hours and 25 minutes before the total eclipse of the sun turns day into night here. Perhaps I'll see you on the other side.

We all know I couldn't possibly name 500 vocalists. I exaggerated of course. I just can't see what is so special about her. Surely you realize that there are many vocalists with a better voice. To summarize the whole argument: You think she has a kick ass voice and I don't! Please don't make a big deal out of this.
