    >Yes. It was intentional. Sort of signifying Hamlet's death, yadda yadda...

Not quite. That ending was inspired by "I Want You (She's So Heavy)"
by The Beatles. I asked Mike about this once to confirm the Beatles
analogy, and he seemed to be a bit tired of this question ;-)

He said his usual answer was that they simply went out of tape. I
guess he never thought that exactly that would ever really happen to
    him ("Three Minutes Warning"!)

    >He plays violin huh? If he is anywhere near as good

Well, Planet X sounds terribly like UK already, so that would be a
    logical step ;-)

Yes, I forgot that this might be in the works. Given Tony M.'s involvement, I should think that the live material might be sufficiently different from the studio stuff to warrent some live stuff. It'll be interesting to see if that is done under Magna Carta or not...

This must be totally false. Usually when a "big" band like Rush does a tour the tickets are sold by Ticketmaster, I checked the sight for ANYTHING Rush and there was nothing. Tsongas Arena in Lowell MA does 99.9% of their booking via Ticketmaster... there was no such date listed. This would be "HUGE" if it was a confirmed date, but my mind tells me otherwise. MOURNINGSTAR - Mourningstar SWEDEN Rating: * * * * March 1999 PRIVATE Running time: 25:06

Mourningstar are: Lead & Backing Vocals, Guitars - Magnus Florin Keyboards & Vocals - Alexander Orest Bass - Alexander Karlsson Drums & Backing Vocals - Rickard Eriksson

    Tracklist: 1. Departure (8:44) 2. Domino Child (4:22) 3. Millennial Winter (12:01) Recorded & Mixed in Berghem Studios, on March 15th-16th 1999

Mourningstar are a Swedish progressive rock band that was founded in 1997. After a few line-up changes the band finally found today's setting. This is a demo-CD to present the band.

Their musical influences are Accept, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Dream Theater, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Glenn Hughes, Kansas, Marillion, Rush and Yes. Although many of their influences is found in the heavy metal and hardrock genre the music is closer to progressive rock, or the nowadays so widespread progressive metal. They could easily be filed under the same genre as such bands as Dream Theater, Shadow Gallery and Symphony X.

The most impressive musicians in the band are the guitarist Magnus Florin and the keyboard player Alexander Orest. Magnus has got a very fast riff technique that's rather impressive sometimes. He's also responsible for the vocals, and he's quite good at that too. He reminds me of a singer, but I can't figure out which one?

The first song is called "Departure" and it's my favourite track on this CD. It starts off with a very funny keyboard melody and a very fast guitar riff. The instrumental middle section of the song is very much in the Dream Theater vein. The instrumental passage ends up very jazzy and Magnus is brilliant on the guitar solos. A masterpiece!

"Domino Child" comes next and it's my least favourite. On this track the hardrock and heavy metal influences are shown. I know that this track advanced Mourningstar in a band contest, but it isn't exactly my cup of tea. If it weren't for this track I would have given the CD a five star rating. Don't get me wrong, because it isn't a bad song at all. The only thing is that it doesn't live up to the quality of the other two songs.

The third and final track is called "Millennial Winter" and it's the epic track with its 12 minutes. It's recorded live in Berghem Studios and it's showing the bands musical skills. It's nice to hear that the band is able play this quite intriguing song live.

Morningstar are equally good as other Swedish bands in the same genre, such as Hollow, Sanity, Timescape and Treasure Land. The front cover made by Mattias Nor=E9n is very nice. All in all this is an impressive debut and if they only stay together, it wouldn't surprise me if they could make it big. Recommended.

I'm friends with the guys in Altura. The last time I talked to them, th= ey were still a band, but not playing progressive metal anymore. They were no l= onger signed to Magna Carta, either.

As far as Auditory Imagery, they are a great band. I had a low budget v= ideo that they made for one of their songs. It was a little cheesy, but stil= l cool for an unsigned band.

With Glenn Hughes doing some of the vox - excellent album. Glenn also co-wrote most of the songs. One song is a Hughes/Thrall composition called 'Still the Night' which I love and the cover of Thin Lizzy's 'Opium Trail' is pretty damn good too!

    Hey Folks:

I hope someone hear can help me find the name of a song that is currently being played on the radio. The beginning sounds very much like Nirvana, and during the chorus I think the singer says, "I can't love you anymore..." I didn't really hear the DJ say the name of the band afterwards, but I think he said the name of the song is "February sun" but I could be wrong. Does anyone know what the hell I'm talking about?

    Thanks, Brandon

That's an extravagent offer too. Alanis Morissette recieved $1 for every copy of 'Jagged Little Pill' sold, and that was considered to be a pretty generous offer such an unproven artist. I've heard of $.50 per copy sold, but I can't remember who got that... === *Trent

Jesus Christ, I just heard a John Scofiled album called "Loud Jazz"!!! I know many of you know the drummer god Dennis Chambers, but do check him on this one too! This man is by far one of the best drummers I heard!

Also, I finally got Platypus recently (huh, what a news for all) and I LOVE IT! I really like Rod, I'll dare to say I prefer much more this style tham Mike's! :) Rod is more free in a way, more jamming oriented, similar like jazz drummers. Not that Mike is bad, but they have completely different styles!

As far Derek goes, IMHO, Platypus is THE Derek sound I want and expect to hear, not Planet X. Anyway, this is sick album!

If you like John Scofield you should check out Dave Weckl. I've only got one album with him ("Hard Wired") but it's really good! Youv'e probably already heard of him but in case you havn't, listen to CDnow's realaudio samples: http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=850615447/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/ArtistID=WECKL*DAVE/DDCN=SD-1110+9760+2
