    Greetings, Miracles and Sleepers all...

<< (Vertu = Stanley Clarke, Richie Kotzen, Karen Briggs, Lenny
    > White and Michael Caplan) >>

Uh, no. Michael Caplan is the A&R man at Sony/550 Records whose idea was the
seed that sprouted into Vertu. Obviously, he's not part of the band. The
band is comprised of Richie Kotzen (guitars), Karen Briggs (violin), Rachel Z
(keyboards), Stanley Clarke (bass) and Lenny White (drums/percussion).

Their self-titled debut is far and away the best fusion album I've heard in a
long time. It's got chops galore, groove and heart all in one dynamic,
exciting musical package. Karen Briggs and Rachel Z, perhaps the least
well-known members of the band, are revelations, and they get just as much
solo time as the guys. True, it's not "The Romantic Warrior" or "The Inner
Mounting Flame," but it's a very good start at renewing the classic jazz-rock
sound, IMO. If they're given time, they may yet spearhead a full-fledged
fusion comeback, with Scott Henderson's Tribal Tech, Shawn Lane, Gamalon and
the Jon Finn Group charging up behind them.

Now where's that Dregs reunion album, dammit?

Oh, and by the way: James LaBrie's "Mullmuzzler" is very good. My only
complaint: the album is a bit on the short side. What, did he tell Matt
Guillory, Trent Gardner and Carl Cadden-James, "No epic songs"? One 10 to 12
minute track wouldn't have killed anyone. <grin>

Well, Karen Briggs doesn't fall too short on the notability scale. Many
Yanni fans will recognize her as "the tripped out violin chick" in both of
his live videos. I mean, I may have started the whole Vanessa Mae thing,
but I'll quickly say that I think Karen is the better player.

Whereas V-Mae pretty much sticks to the style of old violinists from yonder
days, Mozart/Paganini, Karen has developed something... well... odd. Still
utilizing the same wrought iron techniques laid out for violin from the
renaissance era, she throws in alot of eastern and bluegrass styles into her
playing, all the time making it rock. Very interesting and great stuff.
I'll have to pick that album up!

I've heard of Rachel Z from somewhere, but I can't place it. She doesn't
happen to play for Sheila E. on occasion does she?
    (hehehehesnickerhahahahah)!

I'm waiting for someone to MP3 it for me! I'm the guy you're referring to and about 3 people are sending me tapes, one of which said they'll MP3 it to the web so everybody can hear it, but as of yet, I haven't received their tapes! The offer still stands: If you have the ability to put these new Type O Negative songs on your website, e-mail me and we'll get 'em to you pronto! That way the entire Internet can listen to THESE COMPLETELY AWESOME NEW SONGS!

By the way, the radio-show that played the two songs played ANOTHER song from the album last weekend! It was the title track! So far, I have on tape:

    1. World Coming Down 2. Creepy Green Light 3. Pyretta Blaze

All 3 are yours if you can put them on your website!

    Later!

    >WHAT?????????????????? >Who put these freaks together? What? When? Where? Why? Who? SPEAK DAMN >IT! :)

LOL... I had the same reaction when I stumbled across this record. How come something THIS great is being released and no1 informed me :) MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THEIR ALBUM.. IT'S AWESOME! Their label made a very modest homepage for the band at www.vertumusic.com. At least there's some info.. I contacted their promotor when they were on european tour cause I'd die and go to heaven if they had a concert in Ljubljana. But the sucker replied that they'r asking $20.000,00 USD + expenses for the show and that is a bit out of my reach :P

King's X was much easier to get in Slovenia. Apart form the fact that they'r extremely nice and easygoing people, they asked extremely low price for the show. Seems like it's not business for them at all. They just want to play in from of people. MORE POWER TO KING'S X! :)

wow, i never thought something i posted to the jam over a year ago would be reposted by someone who i don't know. this is kind of whack. i thought about asking maddog to revise with the revelation of derek getting bounced for JR, but i never got around to it. the shocking part is that there was absolutely zero response to it when i posted it. actually, i take that back. i think one person commented that maddog was smoking some serious shit, and wondered where he could get some of it.

i still have the original if that's of interest to anyone, although i don't see why it would since it was just reposted.

    Hi all,

I would skip the "Best of the Wacken Open Air" Sampler if I were you. There are not any new versions on it at all. Certainly no live versions of songs from Wacken (ok maybe one song but from some crappy German band sung in German). There are some good songs on here but you probably have the regular CDs from these bands anyway. I don't have the CDs here with me in the USA but it is certainly nothing special.
