in other news, i got the new megadeth album at the radio station a few days
ago. man, it's a disappointment... i mean, i like the music, and i've been
listening to it almost nonsteop, but its SO not metal. i really didnt expect
this from Megadeth. another disturbing thing is that in the liner notes,
they pulled a "Load-ism" and only print a few verses from each song... i can
try my hand at writing a full review if anyone wants me to. moo.

Well, well, what do we have here? I'm glad! :)

The only album available outside in the world is his latest project with
Miroslav Tadik, YU origins guitarist living in USA for long time and
from 1985 he is professor at Art Institute in California. 1997 Guitar
Player magazine announced him as one of the best 30 world guitarists!
Their project is called KRUSHEVO, a 2 acoustic guitars music inspired by
the traditional Macedonian ethno music. Now, although this is AWESOME
album, seek no shred-fest here. I think CDNow has it, and I think that
    originally Krushevo is US release!

While for others ughh, .. check this story out:
Macedonia was part of ex-YU thus many bands recorded their albums all
over it. Being a communist coutry 'n all that, none of the YU music went
outside, although we had pretty much to show! :) After the collapse of
YU, all those copyrights legal crap made big problems! Damn it,
Macedonian band can't re-release their stuff because back then it was
released from Serbian or Croatian house! :( So, at least in near future,
there won't be any CDs available!

Vlatko has few solo albums after that, but I doubt they can be found
outside! Like, can you find let's say Hungarian band album in UK? :(
    Huh, I don't think so!

But I said that I can put up MP3s on someones server if possible, I
wanna get this music to jammers!
I'll be glad to do it if someone offers his server.

Until then check out his home page:

Yes, the Krushevo album I have is on M-A Recordings, from the USA, and also it was supposedly released in Japan I believe. And now, as CyberDuke pointed out, CDNow has it listed. Too bad when I got it, I couldn't find it here, and had to have it imported from Macedonia.(Thanks CyberDuke!:)

But if you want to hear a good acoustic album, by all means try this one out. Ethno- inspired music that is quite beautiful, very soulful. Overall, it's not a shred-fest, but there are a few songs that really move. We get treated to some nice nylon and steel string guitar-playing, and even a dobro on a few tracks. I really wish I have a decent stereo to listen to this album with, because sonically it's quite unique. It was recorded inside the monument at Krushevo, Macedonia. The music's very smooth, yet still creates an intensity which I still can't quite grasp. Maybe it's those irregular Macedonian rhythms eh CyberDuke? :-)

So I would definitely second the recommendation made by CyberDuke, check it out.

    >But I said that I can put up MP3s on someones server if possible, I >wanna get this music to jammers!

If he does get some MP3s somewhere, don't hesitate to try them. I think alot of jammers would like this music too.

    Hey gang -

We interrupt this regularly scheduled flame-war to bring you.... a question. Well, several questions, actually, regarding a sensitive topic... bootlegs. Now, before we go any further, I know that there are many of us on the Jam that have very strong, very passionate opinions about different aspects of bootlegging, and if possible I'd like to put the morality issues aside and focus specifically on the legal side of things. I apologize if this has been covered in detail before, but I am looking for specific explanations about what is legal and what's not with bootlegging. My wife was asking me (probably for fear of having to someday bail me out of jail ;-) ) exactly what is and what is not illegal, and I actually didn't know the answers.

First off, I understand that recording and/or selling bootlegged material is technically illegal. Just so I'm clear, what about the following things:

1.) Simply owning bootlegged material? 2.) Trading bootlegged material for other bootlegged material? 3.) Buying bootlegged material from someone else?

Are all these things technically "illegal"? I'm just wondering how many years in the slammer I could be eligible for. ;-)

If any of you could shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it. I'm not "in the know" when it comes to legal stuff. I'm only a lowly computer programmer, you know. ;-)

I don't know about 1 & 2, but if buying illegally recorded material is against the law, I don't think the cops are gonna care who you are buying it for. Or else I could by myself a scud from Saddam, and if I got caught, say I was buying it for Al @ Switchcraft :-). I don't think I ever would be able to prove it though. Another example would be if you hire someone to kill off somebody. The hitman would still be charged with murder. So my guess would be that it is illegal to buy for someone else.

Well, I didn't exactly provide any answers, just throwing in my thoughts on the subject.

    Cheers!

I like the idea of bootlegging. If a band won't release the live performance legit, why not find a way to get it myself thru non-legit vendors? Anyway, it's not like you're somehow taking away from the band since they never stood to gain money on a concert event after the fact. Studio cuts are a different matter altogether IMHO. I know you said ethics aside, but hey... Anyway, having said all that mess, it's not illegal to own or buy bootleg music. It's illegal to *sell* it. The RIAA can't touch you for buying or ownership. No one else can either. They can pick on you a bit, but no legal action can be taken. You can cop ignorance of knowing what it was that you were buying (surely all Pearl Jam CDs are authorized by the band, right? :o) )and there's nothing anybody can do. So there ya go. === *Trent

Have you ever gone to an MP3 site where it says something like, "This material may only be used to backup purposes, and if it is't yours you can only keep it for 24 hours or else you're breaking laws?" Well, first of all, you can't download MP3s off the web and then claim that you were retrieving them from a backup... Because the ONLY way you can use backed up MP3s is if you have backed them up yourself. It's illegal, plain and simple, no 24 hour grace period, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Unfortunately, owning ANY material that is copyrighted by somebody without their explicit written permission is illegal. Any material that a band plays in a concert is still copyrighted by that particular band, and may not be used in ANY way, whether for home use or for re-broadcasting purposes. Nobody (and I've even talked with people who work for copyright police on this one, too) will care if you copy music - whether it be from the radio or off somebody else's CD or whatnot - for your own use at home. When you want to sell it, that's when they get upset - but owning it is still illegal, whether they care or not. It's illegal to record songs off a radio station, download them off the web, copy them from a friend... All illegal methods.

So that's the lowdown on copyrighted material. The good news for Trent is that since DT officially endorses bootlegged material, it is legal for you to own bootlegs of their concerts - even to sell and trade it, I believe, as long as it's not for profit. But don't quote me on the selling/trading thing (I'm almost positive that trading is legal, but I'm not sure on the selling CDs thing).
