I agree as well, It sounds all cool at first that you'd get to see like 5 or
6 bands, but they each play such short sets that it sucks. And I especially
hate it when those bands end up not doing their own tour, so it's either see
them on a big tour for 45 minutes or don't see them at all.Plus, you just
know they'll leave out a tone of songs ya want to hear. Give me a 2 to 2.5
hour show by one headliner and I'm much happier.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE from a seldom-posting but always lurking DT fan.
This was a good year for OFB. Like most of you, I was expecting a LOT from
SFAM and the band really delivered on this one!
Killer melodies and sparse but highly effective harmonies coupled with some
very cool Patricia / Jordan solos (especially when they transition from
guitar to keys and visa versa.) make this one their best so far, IMHO. Then
    add in Mike's performance!

    To my surprise there were:
No complaints about outside vocalists like there was on FII (Lines in the
    Sand).
    No bitching about album fonts.
Very few Derek vs. Jordan threads.

Now about how Mike cost me lots of money this year (next year looks "bad"
    too).
I turned my son on to DT in 1994 when he was 10 and a budding drummer. Five
years later he is 15, worships the ground Mike plays on, and plays only
Sabian, DWG, Tama, and wants a Starclassic set this year. $$$$
I've already bought 5 copies of SFAM, Mike's new video, and John's Rock
Discipline Video. Add $60.00 each month for drum lessons, more for drum
sticks, heads, even MORE cymbals. Add to that the DTIFC dues, the vacation
day I take when DT plays here in Portland and other hidden costs even I don't
    know about yet.

    IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!
One reason to get Mike's video is that he explains some of the rhythm
patterns they used in SAFM...as a guitar player I wouldn't have seen the
    patterns without the explanations.

Note to MARK METZGER...I hope your surgery went well and you are feeling
    better. I admire you.
It takes a LOT of GUTS to have a SEX CHANGE operation...Hope your "wife"
appreciates you now...I forgot his name :>( Maybe I should start calling you
    MARCIE now!

    Back to lurk mode...

    Warren Williams

    DT's OLDEST non-band-family-member FAN.
    MIKE, how's that?

Well, I figured I'd sneak out of quasi-lurk status to say Mary
Axe-Mass and Happy New Year/Decade/Century/Millenium to all
Ytsejammers -- I'm a longtime Jammer (5 years or so) but don't post as
often these days, and it's only right to post THIS holiday greet at
"six o'clock on a Christmas morning."

To all my old friends, some still here and some who have since
(apparently) drifted on (Bafuuuu, where are youuuu), hi and have a
great new year. To the newer folks....the same thing. :)

    Cheers,

Maybe I have an age advantage, but unless my 35 yr old memory is failing, it was Harry Chapin who originally wrote and recorded Cats in the Cradle.

O-P, you might be thinking about the "Blue Man Group," an "avant-guard performance rt/music" troupe from NYC. They've had an off-Broadway show for quite a few years now (I first saw them in high school). The full show is very hard to explain, except that it involves audience participation, about two stomach-fulls of marshmallows, spitting paintballs, and tons of toilet paper during the finale! :) Needless to say, if you're in the NYC area, skip all the "Lion King" crap, and head into the village to see this show....and yes, they do have a CD available.

    Yep, they were cool!

So, I walk around in one local shopping center, freezing on -10 Celsius ones, so I came by the most expensive pirate CDs shop. <BTW, ALL music shops in these countriues are with pirate CDs, no originals. Ask the Bulgarian Hipodilski, he knows it BEST ;>

So anyway, I look the shop window filled with CDs, nothing much for someone like us, and I noticed few white papers sticked on the door that said NEW!!! They had few lists of new CDs they got. On the first one it said:

    - Metallica - S & M - Dream Theater - A Scenes From A Memory

:))) WTH??? DT mentioned on the top new CDs list? And as the surprise wasn't big enough, 10 centimeters (inches and yards SUCKS) below was sticked big, huge, (size like an LP cover) the cover of SFAM!!! :)

I heard that in this city, the CDs shops sell quite much DT CDs. I guess some folks got into it so DT is starting to be at least a little known in certain circles.

OK, another moment was, I go thru one new computers magazine, local one, and suddenly my eyes got wide open. I saw the whole AWAKE cover!!! I was confused at the moment, why is it here? And then I noticed some words above that said "CD SHOP VISION". :) They used the Awake cover as a background for their shop banner in the magazine.

OK, that would be all for now.

It's actually not a "band", per se; more of an "experience". They're called Blue Man Group and they're a performance troupe that has a show in 3-4 U.S. cities. I've had the pleasure of seeing them live, and it was the wildest, most entertaining thing I have ever seen. Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to describe - there are equal parts music, dance, humor, art, and audience participation. To anyone in or near a city where they perform, I HIGHLY recommend it. One of my New Year's resolutions for 2000 is to go see them again. (I like achievable goals. :-))

They have one album out (just came out a few weeks ago, actually), called "Audio". It is available through CDWhenever, or through their website at www.blueman.com
