    Hi Guys,

Has anyone heard of Rama, a project by Andy West also featuring Jens
Johannson, Derek, Mike P and Toshi Iseda. I have only read about it on
Andy's (soon to be revised) Web Site (http://www.xen.com) but he's being
pretty economic with the details and I couldn't find any details at CDNow.

    Hi all

the last time Dream Theater did a major tour through
Europe, they took a European support band with them
(Vanden Plas). How about doing it again next year? And
how about making that European support band either
Superior or Lemur Voice? I'm sure Bernd or Marcel would
love to come along... How do other Eurojammers feel
    about this?

Keep those top ten albums of 99 coming to me. Some of
the entries I've received so far have been interesting
    and, in some cases, unexpected.

    stay safe and happy listening

Isaac Trumbo, in his infinite wisdom, said:

    >the greatful dead were horrible.. period dot com.. you might like em and
    >that's fine, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it was really a
    >horrible band. i grew up around them.. donna jean was pretty much my mom
    >(her son was and is my best friend) so i was inundated by the music and the

    >people arround the music and i can safely say that they all suck ..

So, if you were "inundated" with their music and were very close with Donna,
why can't you spell the band name right? :) And I'm not sure what live
recordings you're listening to, but there are many, many (, MANY) excellent
performances from the Dead where they don't miss a note. In the later
years, especially, it depended on how lucid Jerry and the others were, but
check out some early-mid 70s stuff. Great playing, though fairly simple.
They could put a whole set of songs together flawlessly and they changed
setlists nightly (something I'd love to see DT do once in a while - sheesh),
so you've got to expect some errors here and there. A trained monkey can
play the same setlist night after night, given enough time to prepare. It
takes real skill and far more imagination to weave a different story each
night. Some people don't dig it, which is fine of course, but to say the
Dead "all sucked" is just ignorant.

Well, somehow I made it through my youth without ever seeing Pee-Wee's
Excellent Adventure, but based on the line you provided, I know the TS song
you're talking about. It's "Burn In Hell" from the classic "Stay Hungry"
album. As far as albums go, I had some great stuff on it... if you can just
get past the picture of Dee Snider in drag on the cover. ;-) I can
remember many a night rocking out to both "Stay Hungry" and "Metal Health" by
Quiet Riot. Ahhhh.... the memories... :-)

    Regarding the dude commenting on G N' R, I couldn't agree more. It's a
shame they're hardly a footnote in rock and roll history anymore because they
could write some AMAZING songs. "Estranged" still has to be one of the most
intense songs I've ever heard. And it's a damn shame that radio completely
played "Appetite For Destruction" into the ground, because every song on that
    bad boy was killer.

Regarding the new live G N' R, I haven't poked around CDNow yet to listen to
sound clips, but I saw it in the store and the track listing looks awesome.
How's the sound quality and performance quality? Worth picking up? I'm
getting chills just thinking about "Estranged" LIVE... ;-)

    Hey Jammers,

Recently the subject of Phish has come up...yeah, I know, come up like vomit
for some of you :-) [...and then we made fish puddles with our mouths....]

I bought "Lawn Boy." Please tell me this is the weakest Phish album, no I'm
not saying it "sucks" or it's "bad," I'm purposely using the word "weak" and
please don't flame my butt blisteringly if I throw in "lame" as well.

This is all *my unschooled opinion* and I would like some help enjoying
Phish! I just get nearly nothing out of "Lawn Boy," except I chant "bag it,
tag it, take it to the butcher in the town" every hunting season ('cept we
do our own butchering since town is a long way off).

I know these guys have loads of talent, a friend has played boots of their
White Album cover. But their original material is just -- here's that word
    I warned about -- lame.

Of course I love Dream Theater. I can handle about 30% of Zappa on any
given day (which 30% changes depending on how I feel). I think Grateful
Dead studio albums are a waste, I don't care that they flub on stage, I can
still enjoy their live material. Never done acid while listening to the
Dead, but I still like 'em live.

I seem to be missing the "jazz gene" and just don't get that stuff, which is
a shame since my friend Baf is a Phish-head and a monster jazz pianist so
whatever Phish he exposes me to bounces right off my hard head.

I like Yes, Rush, King Crimson, Mike Oldfield, Fatez Warning, and
Savatage...Mahler too (yay ASO's gonna tackle Mahler next season). I like
Pink Floyd, just taught myself APP's "I Robot" last night, and blast Living
Color to loosen up the earwax. I guess that's enough for y'all to get a
bead on my wide musical tastes.

So, what Phish album would y'all suggest for a proglodyte like myself? Any
    MP3 sites where I can preview y'all's suggestions? Don't worry, I'll buy
the albums I like, I quit pirating when I could be tried as an adult ;-)

Help me like Phish! Private emails welcomed.

The new live GnR isn't all that...IMHO. Yes it has a great track listing, but it
was thrown together, and sounds VERY thrown together. When I hear a live album I
want to feel the show...that's half the live experience, and this album just
sounds like a bunch of various live songs thrown together...which it is.

OK, well, I'm not going to start on how we really do need a live album of
the wall, because on my bootleg of it, the live shows were pretty different,
not to mention fucking awesome. I'm even going to bite by tongue and hold
fire over anyone not being in tears by the end of side 3 having no soul.
Because to be honest, I really agree with the last bit enough to skip over
the flames that the rest of he post would normally provoke. Roger Waters
keeps saying in interviews how Gilmour has no songs, nor any real ideas of
any description; and every year, whether it brings a new PF album or not,
adds further credence to what Roger claims. Waters has got even better
(albeit gloomier) since TFC; while PF have got...Well, Division was patchy
and frequently uninspired - esp. when stood next to "Amused to Death" which
was pretty good. I can forgive them for that, 'cos when it was good it was
great. But its about time they got off their collective arses, and gave Guy
    Pratt some work again.
Am I the only one vaguley amused to see that even after all this time, all
four ex-floyds still hate each other to greater or lesser extents?

    Al 'n Andrew,

My headphones are rather good -- Sony MDRV200's -- on the ear, best
headphones I've owned, have lasted for five years now, realistic-ish
sound (compared to my other headphones... ugh!)... but that distortion
isn't from them... it's like a sizzle, and only when the keys are
prominent, like in The Accolade, and only when skip protection is
turned on, and regardless of the volume or how new the batteries are.
No skip protect, no distortion. The manual said it used compression
techniques (probably to save money on RAM) in its skip protection. Of
course, I've since lost said manual.

The sound is like that crackle sizzle you get when you compress
something in 4:1 IMA ADPCM WAV file... it's fine until you hear the
    really light keys.

It does happen to other albums, but I can't remember which ones. It's
usually on those airy key sounds. I think it happens on Cynic, but I'm
not sure (the batteries finally died, and I'm broke and at home
    anyway...)

It's no biggie to me, as I don't listen to SX while I walk... I
air-keyboard to the new DT if anything. ^_^ (which doesn't distort,
    btw.)

That's not why they make closed ear cup designs.. It's so outside sounds don't
interfere with what you're listening to.

Well... Since you stated "Studio phones" I'll limit my suggestions to closed
and semi-open air designs. (the only way to go if you value sound over comfort)
I'd first look at AKG and Grado. I assume you don't want to spend a fortune
so I'll only list models that retail for around $100.00.

    AKG 240M $99.95 http://www.performanceaudio.com/akg/akg_k240m.html
    AKG 240DF $104.95 http://www.performanceaudio.com/akg/akg_k240df.html
    Grado SR-80 $95.00 http://www.audiofx.com/grado/SR-80.htm

Any one of these three phones would do a great job. Miles ahead of your old
Koss phones. There are several headphones in this price range. The ones I've
listed are ones I would considering purchasing if I was in the market for
headphones that were within the budget of the sane. I promise you would be
happy with ANY of the above headphones.

Taaaaaaaaaaaaake this promise... Hi Bernd! / Al waves

    Good evening!

A friend of mine has made an analysis of Voices. You can check it out at http://linusworld.cjb.net/voices.html. It should be interesting. He has also made a training-programme to Paradigm Shift. I'm sure he'll let you have a look at it if you ask him nicely.

On a different note, are there any Pestillence-fans out there? I have the Spheres-album. It took me quite a while to get into, but now I really appreciate it. The question is, which album(s) would you consider to be their best?

I just recently acquired Buckley's "Grace" album and it is nothing short of pure genius. I find myself needing to be in an incredibly sullen mood in order to completely enjoy his music, though. Go figure. Grant Lee Buffalo's "Mighty Joe Moon" is up there as well on the genius scale, and it too is a supremely morose sounding album.

HOLY WOW!!! I never thought I'd see my all time fave movie, "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" mentioned on the jam! I SERIOUSLY reccomend everyone check this one out, even if you saw it back when it came out. It's soooo TWISTED. (no twisted sister pun intended =^). What was the name of the song for which Twisted Sister (?) was filming the video when Pee-Wee Herman rode through on his bicycle (in the excellent, excellent movie "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure")? Went something like...

LOL. This is one of my all-time favorites also. The tape was stolen from me two years ago, and I'm still in shock. I think that the Elfman score to this one kicks total arse...

Sorry, no clue as to the name of the Twisted Sister tune. I'd always assumed it was called "Burn in Hell"....

Weird, although a huge PF fan, I really hate Pulse. It does nothing to me.

    > but after waiting for ....oh six years I was > actually hoping for a studio album from them.

I for one don't expect any good stuff from them anymore. Let's face it people, artists have good periods and after that it's all gone. It's even natural damn it. Look at Jethro Tull. I simple ADORE this band. BUT, I can't pretend and I must say their few last albums totally suck, not because they're not good, but because they just don't do nothing, the fire is gone, the spirit is gone.

What the hell Rolling Stones try to do??? ;( I like them, but ... Go die peacefully punk, don't have a heart attack out on stage. DO they have something new to say? Nope! U2, similar thing. IMHO, Achtung Baby was awesome album, and should've been last. All the rest is garbage.

    > As for me, right after Run like hell' I do not listen to the disk 2 > at all. its' just too gloomy and negative, even when one's > not paying attention to the music.

Huh, buddy do you realize what do you state actually? Damn it, after Run like Hell there are only 4 more songs, out of which the last is silent outro, so it's 3 actually. :( You make it sound like half album sucks. And you actually listen the whole CD up to RLH.

Oddly enough, the name is "Burn In Hell." It was on their Stay Hungry album IIRC.
