Hey all,
Long time since I posted... I wanted to wait until this whole SFAM thing
blew over a little.. I was getting like 26 digests a day and was unable to
keep up. Anyway, glad to hear that everyone seems to be doing well.
Now, as for RUSH. Wow, am I ever glad that Neil has finally "recovered"
although I'm sure that no one really can recover from such a tragedy..
losing your daughter in a car crash and then losing your wife to cancer, all
within the same time frame. I'd be crushed and I can understand the grief.
However, after some time I can see that he has realized that he has to do
what he has done all along.
I'm disappointed that they won't be touring and I'm sure that the
touring could be good "therapy" for Neil. Meeting people and seeing things
can take some of the tragedies out of his mind. But, I'm sure that it is
one of his stipulations for playing again. He already hates touring, so I'm
sure that he is happy about his stipulation. I'm very grateful that the
band is back in business and I can't wait to hear the products of a long
recess... I just hope that the lyrics aren't too dark and depressing
considering Neil writes 99% of them. Do I sense RUSH getting a little
heavier? I don't know. Well, I can't wait. Talk with y'all later. J

Hey fellow jammers,
I have to admit that I have never listened to the whole 'Wall'
and don't know about most of the other albums you're talking about,
but the best Concept Album IMHO is 'Nightfall in Middle-Earth' by
Blind Guardian - at least for fans of the fantasy genre! (For those
who don't know) it tells the story of 'The Silmarillion', the book
which is the 'prequel' to Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings', the
greatest fantasy epic of all time. It is one of the most
atmospheric CDs I've ever heard.
anyone agree?

You don't need to. The ONLY way to really understand the entire thing is if you watch the movie (preferably on a HUGE stereo). If you've never seen the movie, DO IT. It's incredibly well-made, but VERY spooky; It is severely disturbing at times.

Now then, would this be before or after "The Hobbit?" These stories rule, although I've never read the Lord of the Rings trilogy all the way through. I tried to read The Two Towers when I was in eighth grade for a Language Arts (that's what they called English class in my middle school) assignment, but I had to stop because every time I'd read it for more than five minutes, I'd fall asleep. Heh. Maybe I should try them now that I'm older and can understand it better.

Fellow YTSEJAMMERS,
I was wondering what you guys (and gals) all thought about Bjork. I was in my car and heard one of her songs on the area's college radio station. I had heard it before and had even seen a video for it but wasn't sure of the name of the song. I just checked out CDNow and found that it was "Human Behaviour" off of her debut solo album, which is titled oddly enough "Debut".
Do any of you have any opinions of her work? And what album of hers would be good to start off with, her debut album? Any info would be appreciated.

On PF's, The Wall... > You don't need to. The ONLY way to really understand the entire thing is > if you watch the movie
Totally agreed. I just watched the DVD last night (watch it on DVD if you can, they did a VERY good job cleaning up the picture from VHS, I think.) and was once again blown away by it. I've seen it several times before (even own the VHS, too) and this, for some reason, was the first time I ever really marveled about how incredible the cinematography is and how great the story is, as well.
My only gripes about the movie are that the songs are out of sequence (no biggie), they left off Hey You (another no biggie, the section for the cut Hey You is included as an Easter Egg on the DVD), and they should not have let the guy who played Pink (Bob Geldof) sing, PERIOD. Damn, that guy is a shitty, shitty singer... But it's only for two short moments through the film, so it's quite tolerable. :)
Another thing about the movie is that there are different versions for alot of the songs. Either extension to them, little changes not worth mentioning much, or HUGE changes (like with Mother). All of it is good. :) And "When the Tigers Broke Free" is still one of my favorite songs from the movie. :)
Anyway, I'll quit razing your ears about a movie alot of you have already seen before. :D Go watch it again for the very first time. Or whatever. -- KorgX3 starts readin his new issue of Motor Trend...

I bought Versital's new CD last night (against my better judgement on my credit card) but the CD is pretty good. The lead singer has pretty good range from getting low and melodic with more emotion to singing high, reminiscent of early-Alder at times. I would wait until you are really desperate looking for something new before you buy this. I give it 6.5 out of 10.
Does anyone have Attention Defecit from Magna Carta? What's it like? I liked Skolnick with Savatage, but this seems way different.
Lisa, I am going to mail your blank Cd's this week, I have swamped with finals, work, going out of town to visit my sister. I am sorry it took so long.
