(and gals) here have heard Pain Of Salvation's 'One Hour By The Concrete
Lake' - without a doubt the BEST concept album I've ever heard and an
all-time fav of mine behind I&W and Awake. Watch out for POS in the,

definitely. i have been meaning to post about this cd but havent gotten around to it. i fuckin love it. there's so much there - ive had it since early summer and am still discovering major things about it. like i didnt even read the lyrics till a few weeks ago, because i was always concentrating on the music... spend a month paying attention to the drums (amazing - i still can't figure out some of the patterns he does, like the one at the beginning of track 5), then you realize the guitar playing is really cool - he is an awesome guitarist yet incredibly tasteful (how abotu that vai-sounding solo in track 6 around 1:40 into it if memory serves?). then you notice the keys and guitar have really cool interactions. you get the picture. anyways, i can't think of a single thing to complain about on this cd. he sings in the lower register, awesome voice, yet he can really go up there when he wants to. and i like how he does that a few times but not all the time. the lyrics are kickass. basically everything about the CD rocks, so everyone should get it right now. :) moo.

"Clone", for me, is a return to form for Threshold. "Extinct Instinct" is a weak CD compared to the rest. Glynn Morgan is still the best vocalist they've had, so IMO "Psychedelicatessn" (spelled wrong) is my favorite. Great band!

YES it was one AWESOME show. I sat near the back and was just blown away. Every comment noted above is 100% true.
It was unfortunate that the jam was f'd up a bit or we could have met. I guess I should have posted it before the night before the show, but god have I been busy.

i'm gonna throw out an off-beat (for this list, anyway) candidate top one of my top albums of the year, just to see if it resonates with anyone....
"Gay Dad" is the band, and the album is "Leisure Noise".....one of those Britpress-hyped types, and that should send up a warning flag, but the album is absolutely great, methinks.....
anyway.....Tyranny is definitely a step up from Carved in Stone, and for me, it may be something as simple as the absence of those damn mellow interludes between EVERY song that totally ruins CiS (imo of course)
as far as the concept albums go, i'd vote for APSOG's inclusion
and my best musical discoveries of 1999? (not that you particularly care, but i'm in a sharing mood) mine are marillion/fish and porcupine tree

That's the one. However, he's actually not French! He's from Spain, and made several films in a few different countries (including France), including Un chien andalou (Andalusian Dog I think) which is the famous short with Salvador Dahli with the montage of an eyeball being sliced, against the backdrop of a cloud. I'm actually not that big a fan of his work.. but I haven't seen much of it either. I just like the quote, and it is representative of the kind of dry wit that he is known for.

I always have the feeling that they should have chosen either <shot out of the blue> to rhyme with the other ..ew's, or make it <pathway out of sight> to rhyme with night. Usually I don't care for the rhyming which makes sense in order to not be a slave to words, but let the words be your instruments, but here I somehow feel different. Believe me, it's not a matter of style. Besides Isis and Osiris I dig things as Evil Devolution, Valley of the Queens or Time Beyond time. And I love the flute passages (the second half of Amazing Flight I hummed a lot too). And I don't think the album is crap, but, IMO is chock-full of crappy tidbits here and there which makes almost impossible to hear more than a good three minutes part. Lucassen is a AWFUL singer, and he sings a lot in the album. Some songs have no melody at all and are just half spoken. In The Tunnel of Light (nice song) those backing vocals in the chorus into Elisseum the isle of Avalon... are awful as well as and voices in the sky shall cause the soul to die... in The Garden of Emotions, and much more.
So...Maybe there's enough stuff here to make an awesome OOONNNEEE CD album, and the production is awesome already, but I was pissed off because all the crap this guy Lucassen has included just to fill 120 minutes of music for AN SPACE OPERA!!!
HUMILITY (if that's the correct word)is what this guy needs to learn, 'cause talent and skills I admit he has more than enough.
Sorry, maybe you can understand that sensation of WOW THAT'S GREAT, GOOD MELODY, GREAT INSTRUMENTALS!!! followed by a continous UAGHHHHH!!!! WHY IS THIS HERE???
For me ITEC was a big dissapointment after the samples I'd heard and what the jammers said about it, but it's not so bad really. Just don't expect much and edit your own version with the computer.

that game has been out for a while, and yes, its awesome. most of the music is cool and gets stuck in your head, but i dont recall any shredding - i remember Garbage does one song i think... "if flesh could crawl my skin would fall right off my face and crawl away from me..." hehe or somethig nlike that. after a few races you subconsciously just start singing along without realizing you even knew the words :) moo.

Hein, I have a subscription that I jsut got for Christmas from my mother inlaw... how freakin cool is that! Anyway, I don't think the article is online anwhere. If I get the scanner I want for Christmas then I will scan the article from the December MD issue and send it to you. I don't believe there wan an article in the August issue. Can't remember though... Anyway pick up the Dec Issue if you can...

Gran Turismo is THE best PSX racing game I've ever played, hands down. It's got great graphics, good rendering capabilities, and the soundtrack is just some incredible heavy stuff. A lot of it is kinda like what I would call 'techno-metal', if that makes any sense.

I hadn't realized this act was touring at all.....have they done so before, beyond the talk show circuit (weren't they on Rosie O' Donnell last year?)

Vai played a free show last night at my school (Full Sail) here in Orlando last night. Holy Freaking Crap that man can play!!! Also got Vai's, Mike Keneally's and Mike Mangini's autographs after the show. I got tix to see him at the House Of Blues Friday night. If you get the chance to see him this time around DO NOT PASS IT UP!!! The band smokes.
