I'd put Another Dimension as my favourite, and Baxident close bhid it.
AD has the flow - it's really a WHOLE song, as opposed to The Acid Rain
which seems to e consisting of sveral parts that do not always comply with
each other, and Mike bashing every drum possible sometimes is annoying,
like it is on TAR. Somebody else got the feeling that MP sometimes
overcomplicates the stuff he's playing?

If I remember correctly the Piltdown man was a hoax. It was "found" in
England at the beginning of 20th century by two British anthropologists.
Basically it was constructed of a few human and orang-outang bones. It took
a couple of decades before scientists realised that it was a fake. Usually
people think that it was done by these two anthropologists or there were
even rumours that it was a joke by Conan Doyle, who lived at the same area.
But I remember a recent study that suggested that it was done by some of
their students who wanted to kick their arrogant asses big time and make
them look stupid in public. Of course, I might be thinking of an entirely
different thing here and I'm making me look stupid in public...
But it really doesn't matter. When I made the original DMCM of the 70s
comment I was referring to the vocal style. Quite amusing IMO. Can anyone
figure out what he's saying, except "BLaargh, Rhuorghg" or something?

Hey all... I read the post suggestion a tree be set up for the LTE video
boot. This sounds like a good way to get it to everyone with no one person
having to do too much work.. BUT... keep in mind that video, particularly
VHS, degrades in quality VERY quickly over multiple generations.
I had a thought, which may or may not be such a good one... but let me
know. The 1st generation tape, or a copy of it could be forwarded to
someone who can digitize it and make a CD containing an MPEG video file.
Then anyone with a CDR can distribute copies to others with NO loss in
quality, even over hundreds... thousands of generations... it could be
played by just about any Pentium or higher PC... and it could even be in
VideoCD format so those of you who own the devices, or DVD players etc...
could watch on TV. 45 mins would EASILY fit on a single disc.
Well... whaddya think? I'd be happy to do the deed and mail off CDRs to the
first layer of the tree... I'm probably overlooking some fundamental flaw
in the plan... let me know :)

Here's my take on bootlegs:
First off I do buy them and trade them. If there is a manufactured boot
I'd rather have it than a CDR, only because I am collector.
Now if Mr. Xanadu records was only in it for the fans he'd charge a lot
less
than what I have seen on his page, $45 for a DT boot' Totally
Instrumental'
That's at my guess around, $35-38 clear profit which is totally
outragous. Which
is far more than DT would make from, say 'OIAL' ?
I am sure DT themselves would like to make that kind of money off their
official live album.........
He ever offer's FII demo's for a quite reasonable $15, but we went thru
all this
shit about a FII demo boot last year, no need to go over that again :)
Ever heard the say 'hello pot calling kettle' ?

I've been reading long obnoxious post-show posts from other ppl for years
on this list. I figured, now it's my turn.
So, I left my place around 5:45 or so, expecting to be at the Roxy at
around 6:15 or so. As typically happens, when I have no idea where in the
hell I'm going, I got lost, spent some re-treading my steps, and
eventually got to the Roxy about 6:30 or so. Got in line, and that's
where I met Alfredo and Andy, the brothers from Mission Viejo (located
somewhere between L.A. and San Diego). Also met Kyle, who flew in from
Texas earlier today to get here for the show. This guy rented an SUV so
he could spend the night in it before heading back tomorrow. Christ,
hehehe. One of the treats of this conversation was hearing the "Shadow
Gallery" escape another person's lips. Quite a shock for a loner jammer
like me, let me tell ya!
Doors open at 8, we get in, grab some seats ("let all the hard-core dudes
stand for the show"). I was sitting in probably the closest seat to
Jordan Rudess (which doesn't mean it was THAT close, because the floor was
kinda big). Band takes the stage at around 9:20 or so.
Set-list (to the best of my memory):
Some instrumental shit
Paradigm Shift
Kindred Spirits
Another Dimension
State of Grace
Freedom of Speech
Chris and Kevin's Excellent Adventure (with lots of embellishments from MP
and TL)
A track from LTE II (can't remember the name)
Universal Mind (with an extended section from a Rudess Morgenstein Project
track)
encore: Acid Rain (everybody was standing for this one)
I think I screwed up the order of a couple of songs but, in the words of
Charles Manson, "Hell, I was so stoned, I can't remember." Anyway, gimme
a break, I was busy studying the roof decorations.
Only complaints about the sound at the show: bass drums could've been a
little louder. As it was, they sounded so weak that our table failed to
vibrate when Mike would launch into one of his double-bass patterns. At
the end of the show, Matt B. pointed out that the keys sorta got lost in
what was a very bass-heavy mix. I have to agree with Matt B there; at
some points, TL was literally shaking my entrails with the sounds he was
getting out of his stick. Can't complain, though; I gotsta have my bass.
One other complaint: I got to bring some ear-plugs next time. Never
occurred to me to bring them along. Well, this was my first concert, so I
guess it was fitting that I got the "full experience."
Couple of funny moments:
Jordan tries to introduce the next song, but can't get his mic to work.
MP helps him out by grabbing one of his cymbal-mics and saying into it,
"This is what happens when you put a bunch of non-singers onstage. Nobody
knows how to use a fucking mic!"
During Chris & Kevin's Excellent Adventure, Mike stops playing the drums,
grabs one of his mics and starts singing, "Laaa-la-la, la-la" over and
again, singing over TL's bassline. Mike's vocal efforts were so awful (it
was clear he was just fucking around, anyway) that we had to laugh.
Show ends at just after 11 or so. We all part company, Alfredo and Andy
go back to Mission Viejo, and Kyle goes back to his SUV. I go on the
floor and introduce myself to the guy wearing the "Ytsejam Mailing List"
T-shirt (turns out it was Trevor). I meet Matt Schnoor, Matt B. (never
did find out what his last name was, hehe), Chark...um...Charkroesankwan
(SP?????) AKA "sis" on IRC, Amanda, and Chris Oates. Eventually, we exit
the club and go to Denny's.
At Denny's, I had a very stimulating conversation with Matt, Amanda, and
Chris. We start out talking about feces (those who have chatted with me
on IRC know this is one of my favorite topics), touch on dicks briefly (in
particular, the song by King Missile (?) about the detachable penis),
delve into lesbian seagulls (I think Amanda started this off by talking
about seagulls having oral sex, or something like that).
Just like on IRC:).
Anyway, after watching Matt B. thoroughly enjoy "eating his fudge", we all
break up. That's when I meet Rick Audet and Lisa Marie.
All in all, a memorable night. I lose my concert virginity by going to a
special performance by some great musicians, capped off by an encounter
with a bunch of people that, until now, were little more than IRC nicks
and e-mail addresses.
Now, I have to go to bed. Class starts in less than 5 hours.

Well, then he must have a different definition of "up to date" than I

Hi there!
Please don't support the "Trial of Singles" CD, since it's no bootleg. It
contains commercially released material and thus is a pirate CD. I heard
that it's got the logos of the label all over it, but EastWest never
released a singles collection or a promo CD of that kind.

*JP is actually a musician (as opposed to a noisy little *-)
*JP can actually play the guitar

Not sure if anyone has heard this CD yet, but I just picked up Electric
Skies by Event. It's a kick ass prog CD that you can pick up for 10
bucks plus S&H off of mysticfishook.com . Granted, I have some bias
becuase they're from my area, but the CD is good none the less. The
music still has a little bit of the 'local band' sound, but that's becuase
they produced it all themselves. There's a full length MP3 of
Perfect Illusion off of their site, so check it out.

In other ytsefodder, Nic posted a confused message about keyboards,

If the request was for advice in learning the song, the best way is
breaking it down in pieces. Listen many times, playing along with it. Good
luck. Note: I'm not a keyboardist, but could play one on TV.
Meanwhile, on the homefront, my neighbor is having problems with AOL, and
I've got to assist her. Her problems are probably more linked with not
understanding how to access email, than any server related issues. So this
proves, AOL, while probably the best provider for her needs, can still
confuse. Fortunately, I don't have to deal with them: I use concentric

I doubt that even Portnoy would be cool with the sale of this bootleg.
Those are studio recordings for the most part. There's no release of this
collection, other than by booters, to my knowledge. This is the kind of
thing I hate to see for sale, personally. Man, I'd love to see Petrucci's
reaction if he went into a cd store and saw these! I wonder if he'd just
start snapping them in half. :)
