I agree the majority of AOL'ers are not very clever about the internet.
But in France we do not have all the network problems that exist in the USA.
For example, we do not have the message "it has been a long time since you got
connected, why the fuck don't you go away ?!".
We are not obliged to use the AOL browser. It is not very "beautiful" but it
runs faster when you want to download things. AOL is not censored and we can
get newsgroups too. The thing is that with AOL you do not have to get a lot of
programs like ICQ or something, all is compiled into one program. And if you
want to chat, it is far more easier to chat with people from all around the
world with AOL than with ICQ.
Well, i do not get money from AOL to say that, but the truth had to be told.
France is late about the internet (we do not have fiber optics or cable or all
these stuff), but AOL is still not considered as crap here.
Now, musically, i did not manage to get Acid Rain (in fact i did not search a
lot...). Can anybody tell me the address where i can find it?
And finally, about the last Shadow Gallery : i was quiet disappointed when i
bought it. It sounds like the 80s songs! (the choirs in particular. I think it
is "old-fashioned" to sing the way they sing. Choirs can exist without
sounding old. For example Symphony X or Rhapsody or sometimes Angra etc. And I
think Shadow Gallery sometimes play complicated music just to play
complicated... I do not feel their feeling. DT is sometimes complicated, but
it is beautiful which is not the case -in my opinion- with SG. I do not hate
SG, but did you look at the cover photo of the band?!
    bahhhh....ridiculous!!!!.
A last thing : I do not know anything about Royal Hunt. Which album is the
    best for a first taste?
    that's all!

What can I say about the LTE show last night in L.A. other than it was one
of the best shows I've ever been to? Other 'jammers will be posting about
this show, and some already have, so I'll keep it brief. Let me just say,
ladies and gentlemen, that the future is bright: the new LTE album is
coming out in May, and from the preview we got at the show, it's going to
be album of the year for many people, including myself. I gained a whole
new appreciation for Jordan's immense talents on the keys, as I got an
edge-on view of him torturing the keyboard to do his bidding. Tony Levin
mesmerized me with his fluid, funky licks on the stick. And I don't even
need to mention how amazing Mike and John's playing was.

Overall, it was a concert experience to remember for a long, long time...
and if they don't release an 'official' live album of this show, I expect
to see some kind 'jammers offering high-quality CDRs of their recordings. :)

I hereby nominate John Myung for "..........................". This was truly a classic moment, not to be confused with his hillarious outburst of "......!!!!" or the also infamous "-------". On a serious note, I saw LTE yesterday, and i gotta say I was blown away. Well, my eardrums were anyway, as I was right under the house speakers and pretty much directly in front of Jordan. I almost started crying, imagine what DT is gonna be like with this AMAZINGly talented keyboardist. It was really great to see people supporting him so much. I think the highlight of the show was during Another Dimension (??) when Petrucci was mouthing the key to the other guys, looking like he wanted to scream. Levin kicked butt as always, and Mike was his usual fun self, even dropped a drum stick in there, and tried to sing that whistly part of Chris and Kevins excellent adventure. Matt B.-- fudge, baby. Lots of it. ;) AOL users: Ive been there, I feel your pain. All I have to say to anyone who ever used AOL is this: pinting, punting, porn invites, spam mail up the ass. End of discussion. Nightwish: Oceanborn

Review by Ties Goebel, written for the online progressive music review archive "Through Different Eyes" (http://hem2.passagen.se/caxen/)

This CD blew me away from first listen. Nightwish's debut album "Angels Fall First" was brilliant so I expected a lot from the follow-up, but honestly I didn't expect it to be THAT good. They made a huge step forward, after listening to nothing else than this album since I got it a week ago I have to say that this is one of my favourite albums of all time. A rough description of the music would be a cross of Angra, Symphony X and Stratovarius, thus symphonic, melodic and fast, executed with the same technical skills as the mentioned bands, yet developping their own sound. On top of that, what makes Nightwish's style absolutely unique, the performance of Tarja, a female opera singer with an angel-like voice. Her singing perfectly fits in with the music, in slow quiet parts as well as in fast ones with heavy guitar rhythms. You'll find a lot of great melodic keyboard parts with piano and strings sounds on this album, combined with heavy guitar riffs and fast double bass drumming. Most of the songs are up-tempo, yet including slow atmospheric parts. There's one instrumental song, "Moondance", that sounds like a heavy version of a scandinavian folk dance (and that's probably exactly what it is). The beautiful ballad "Walking On Air" perfectly rounds off the album. The production is crisp and clear, the only drawback of the album might be the short running time (48 minutes), although there's something new to dicover with each listen. Every song is a highlight, no "fillers" are to be found. Nightwish will make their way with this album. There's no excuse, check it out!

You mean turning an MP3 to a Wav file? Just got to mpeg3.com (I think that's the one) and hit their download section. I just picked up a simple one called MP32WAVPro or something very similar. It works great for me. Decoded a 112 kbps Speak to Me and burnt it to CD. Sounds great. :) (to me anyway).

No flame here! Korn sucks. When I think of bands like that, names like Marilyn Manson and Limp Bizkit pop into my head...just pure crap. I think bands like that are just MTV and the whole 90's scene trying to cater to the metalheads of the 80's and failing horribly at it. I can't believe people have to piss all over the name of metal and label it as just that. And what were you replying to? Did someone say they heard John Petrucci sent Korn an audition tape? That's a good one!

Could you (or anybody with a fast net connection) please upload this song to some site/page (perhaps to Mosh's site?), please? I simply can't find the Rudess & Morgenstein Project CD and there was a time when I tried ordering it from CD Connection and they spent one month trying to find it for me, without any success. So, I still want to listen to this CD, but I can't find it anywhere. :-(

Petrucci has implied in the past that he has no plans to ever record his clinic material onto an album. His exact words were "Ah, it's a lotta material..."

    > being faced to 100 pens and CD liners to sign and some freak has just > blinded you with his camera flash!

    That would be me. :)

    > As Bafu said (I guess that's what he was trying to), the artist should > be glad to have those moments of signing, taking photos, chats etc. > Because he receives "love" from the audience and in a way he is obliged > to have respect toward them.

That isn't what I said, nor was it what I was trying to say. I said that if the artist doesn't feel comfortable during those moments and views them as an unnecessary or painful duty, they shouldn't force themselves through it. I know I feel like an obstacle when Petrucci (or anyone) is signing things WHILE walking away from the venue, and in those cases I usually just step out of the way. I don't think an artist has any real obligation to grant his or her fans a portion of time after performances for discussion or blessings.
