No one, I repeat, no one has a 7 octave range. If you can cover more than
3, you're better than anybody. Heck, even the most demanding opera aria out
there only requires 2 and a half octaves and I bet the delivery impresses
the hell out of anybody with a set of ears and enough common sense to leave
the equalizer knobs alone at 0. The acoustic guitar covers 3,5 octaves and
even that is an impossible feat to do with one's voice. Try it. Let Mariah
try it. :-)
Kind of reminds me of the post in rec.music.queensryche where someone who
had a vague understanding of numbers and had just learnt the term "octave",
claimed that Geoff Tate had a 12-octave range.
Castrato singers possessed the biggest ranges in musical history and even
they covered max. 4 octaves. Farinelli il Castrato as the most famous one
of them had 3 and a half documentally proven octaves under his belt. (Now
that may be taken literally.) :-)

Screwed up in my last post. Pianos cover 7 octaves. :-)

Hey Jammerz -
With all this talk lately about RTK, WAYN, and the original MET2, I feel
compelled to bring up again something that was posted on the Jam a while ago,
but was buried within a post, so it would have been easy to overlook.
Some Jammer was apparently talking to MP after a gig and was asking him about
the unreleased DT tracks. According to the post (I think, cuz we're working
from memory now), MP told him that he was trying to coordinate a way to make
ALL unreleased DT tracks available through the Fan Clubs! Now, whether that's
true or not, I'm not sure because I don't even remember who posted this. But,
if so, we may be fortunate to see the light of day of WAYN, the original CMS,
and RTK, maybe not MET2 cuz they're rerecording it, but you never know... and
dare I say... maybe Don't Look Past Me and Cry For Freedom?? I know, it's a
stretch. :-)
So, we can hope, anyway. Mike, if you're reading this, can you confirm or
deny that this is in the works?? Does the fact that Jordan's in and Derek's
out throw a monkey-wrench into the plans?
Which leads me to another philosophical question... I can totally understand
and respect that OFB wants a complete fresh start in the studio in regards to
the DT99 material with the new blood in the band, and everything. However,
what about in the case of single B-Sides? Do you think the band would be more
willing to release B-Sides with Derek, or do you all still think that's a no-
go? I think that other bands in the past (although I can't think of any right
now off the top of my head) have released some older B-Sides with different
personnel. Anyway, just a thought, so if the Fan Club thing falls through, we
may be graced with some FII demo B-Sides with DT99.
On a totally unrelated note, is Angra's "Evil Warning" EP worth it to buy?
How different are the '94 versions of the tracks as opposed to the versions
that appeared on "Angels Cry"? Private e-mail, please. Thanks.
Oh yeah, and a little more DTC for y'all: Pick up the new Metal Edge. They
got some great articles this month, including a 2 page article about DT with
photos of their Irving Plaza X-Mas show!
'Nuff 4 Now..... Laterz!

That's nothing. Where I live, in Vermont, there's actually a sign on the
Interstate that says "<suchandsuch> school for the blind, next exit."

Anyone know if it's true that Bruce Dickinson shattered a glass globe

heard that once but never knew the validity of it.

For MP3 encoding I recently started using Music Match Jukebox (also Xing codec based) and I think it rocks. As mentioned previously, it is fast as hell! Less than 30 minutes to convert a long disc to MP3 format, with no HD-consuming wav files in the process.
I haven't compared different codecs in order to determine relative quality, but all the MP3s I have ripped (12 CDs so far) with MMJ sound great - almost perfect. The only drawback is the software costs $29.99 to register. Still, I definitely think it's worth it.

Anyone ever see the movie "The Tin Drum"? German flick, i forget who the director was, but it's based on a book by Gunter Grass....kid doesn't like what he sees in adults, and decides to stop growing at the age of three, so he grows older without ever growing physically
his other cute little trick is to be able to scream and break glass at will, usually when anybody tries to take away his tin drum
great stuff

Anybody know anything about the latter? and anyone know why i didn't know anything about the former?

Here's a scary parallel that I just thought of. Back in 1993 or so, we were treated to a song called A Change of Seasons. When we finally got it on a CD, DT had changed keyboardists and retooled the song. Now, we hear rumors ofa metropolis part 2 which had been written with Derek. When Jordan replaces Derek, the song gets retooled. The only difference being that we have never heard met 2 as opposed to having the original ACOS available on bootlegs all over the place. Just an odd coincidence. At 09:33 AM 2/4/1999 -0800, you wrote: > > > ]From: Bert Baldwin <rcb@vectorbd.com> > >does. But guys, HE'S NOT A VENDING MACHINE. Tom. Thanks for letting us know. I work in a technology center for the blind and this has been buzzing around my line of work for some time, even in the beta stages of the program. It sounds great, but everything sounds great on paper. I will be a believer when I see it. This is not the first talking web browser around. There is a product that I use called WebSpeak that is similar to the text based Lynx, but it talks. Nice program, when it works and is not being tootally bitchy. We have made Internet explorer 4.0 work with speech access packages so they talk now. I hope the IBM's program is better. I understand it works off of Netscape browsers.
