I beg to differ. I can't recall where I saw it exactly (I think it was
The Learning Channel, which is a reputable source), but Mariah Carey
supposedly has a 6 1/4 octave range, second only to some opera singer
who's name I cannot recall.
As for some Dream Theater content, anybody care to take guess about
James Labrie's range?

On my local rock station, 93X out of Minneapolis I've heard PMU,
Burning My Soul, and You Not Me. They play PMU once and a while
now. It was that hard ass grooves of Burning My Soul that got me
into DT. Then from there I was blown away by the rest of theur stuff.

that, I couldn't find anywhere and japanese versions are expensive for

But, you see, that was Mariah's big gimmick. She has that range. Why on
earth would she fake such a horrendous sound (I personally think anything
higher than A good John Arch high blast is just too high) using a
harmonizer. Listen to "Vision of Love", I beleive that's the one where
she goes from the bottom to the top of her range in one fell swoop, and
it's insane. She's said in interviews that she used to sing that high in
lead vocals, and then when people told her it was annoying, she moved it
to backing vocals, and then when she was basically forced by the black R&B
community to choose to sing either "white" R&B or "black" R&B, she lost
it completely and got Bone Thugs N Harmony to help her.

I've got a 12-note range. I can be in a band waaaay more successful than
Queensryche. So it just. Doesn't. Matter.

i saw her prove that she does have a 7 octave range ( and now im SICK of
seeing her face on tv ). and i think life sucks. i got my new issue of Bass
Player, and JM's designed a new bass. its just like the Yamaha RBX series that
he uses, but his design has 4 pickups, and it looks exactly alike, except its
green, and i think he has his signature on each bass ( well er..a copy :) ).
the reason why i think life sucks is, that i tried to my most careful ability
to pull out the picture of JM and his bass, and it tore pretty easily. it
really pissed me off,but i am going to buy a second copy of BP ( same issue )
for my collection of BP mags.

Most people generally use very weak Most of this is right. I just wanted to add that, in theory, you don't need a loud voice to break a glass. Having the voice at the correct frequency is good enough. The thing this, at low volume, it would take you a really long time (maybe on the order of hours or something, but that's just a guess on my part) to excite the glass to the point where it breaks. That is, as soon as the voice begins holding a note that matches the glass' resonance frequency, the glass will begin to vibrate. With time, these vibrations will become more and more violent (amplitude gets larger) to the point where the stresses in the glass cause it to fracture ("structural integrity is breached"). If you have a really loud voice to begin with, the glass will begin vibrating more violently and it will take less time for it to break. Ummm...there's one other major side-issue that comes to mind (component frequencies of signals that appear to be out of resonance), but I'll spare you all the boring theory:).
I can't believe a topic that I actually KNOW something about popped up on this list.

Christ, how you recomend II when you never heard the I????? :) Boy, I tell ya THE mastrepiece is Tubular Bells I! The II is kinda cheesy and has that little taste of commerciality! And 90% of the themes in II are taken from the part I!!!!
You've never been more fooled if you say II is better than I! II is a result of I! :) The freak wrote Tubular Bells I on the age of 18 I think! :(( I don't get it, I just don't get it! When you listen the album you just can't comprehend how ca a human write that music!

Hi all
sorry for sending my last mail full of MIME shit (I just saw the digest in question this afternoon). I got switched to a new domain and a new server on Friday, everything got screwed up and I was just happy that anything was working again. Hopefully I've got the settings all correct now - if not, some technician here might spend a considerable amount of time tomorrow head-butting my Doc Martens.
The reviews I promised are on their way, and will be augmented by another one, so look out for the following:
ACRON - Labyrinth Of Fear ARTROSIS - Hidden Dimensin MY INSANITY - Still Dream In Violent Areas
All very interesting albums by new and promising bands.
Soccer result of the decade - USA 3 Germany 0 !!!
stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Hawkwind - A Space Ritual
