the song "loving you" always brings me back to the south park
episode where the south park cows are playing the middle park cowboys. if
i remember correctly, the episode featured "big gay al's big gay boat
ride" and a half-time show featuring John Stamos's brother singing, of
    course, Loving You. :)

Mariah Carey does NOT have a seven octave vocal range. MAYBE there are 7 octaves between her lowest note and highest note, but she doesn't have everything in between. Yes, her voice is amazing. she's a freak. but not 7 octaves.

The high note in "Loving you" is an f, as reported on South Park. I know, because I know Richard Stamos can't hit it. :)

James LaBrie's lowest recorded note is (I think) a Bb an octave and a whole step below middle C (in the song "Saved by Love" from the Winter Rose CD). His highest recorded note is (I think) an f# an octave and an augmented 4th above middle c (on the Killing hand from LatM). That gives him almost three octaves. but let's quit this because i hate talking about range. I can sing as high as James and almost an octave lower. does that mean I'm as good as he is? no way.

The jam at the end of metropolis on OiaL is just some new jam the boys included. It's not Pink Floyd, it's not Freebird (that's in TTT), it's not Cupid's Dead (although one part sounds a LOT like it), it's not part of The Way it Used to Be. I think it's called Barfbag. =)

Well, the official site is - you almost got it - http://www.tori.com

Get "Under the Pink" or "Little Earthquakes" first. "Boys for Pele" is too weird for most people to start out with. The first two are more piano-vocal-that's-it oriented, where as BfP or "From the Choirgirl Hotel" are more electronic, with a band, etc. Also, get the Crucify and Hey Jupiter EP's. "Boys for Pele" is by far my favorite Tori album, but it all started with UtP.

The new Collective Soul disc, "Dosage", fucking rocks! If you like this band, or don't, it doesn't matter. Great songwriting (as usual), and they do a little "Nightmare Cinema" action: Drummer playing bass, bassist singing and playing drums, lead guitarist singing and songwriting, etc. Also, very, very cool guitar work from another Berklee alumnus (Ed Roland, vox, keys, guitar)....

Anybody ever heard of a band called s-y-s? Particularly those in the Wisconsin area (apparently they're from Portage). I heard part of a song on the radio (some local music show) the other day, and it was off the wall wild instrumental progressive metal with a touch of goth sound. It was freakin awesome. I was just wondering if anybody else has heard these guys or knows any more about them.

At one of the Rudess/Morgenstein clinics I attended right before RPM was still a demo disc (Jeremy can back me up I hope, he bought one too! :)))), Jordan stated that one of the important factors in his decision for going with Kurzweil was that it had THE closest approximation to a true Grand Piano sound. I couldn't tell the difference and this is coming straight of his rig.

And the other sounds that thing made! I have the RPM disc, and that barely scratches the surface of what he showed off at the clinic. The best is yet to come...

    Appreciate THIS: [:)]

About 20 miles outside Boston in Gloucester is Hammond* Castle right on the Gloucester coastline. As the story goes, sections of it were transported from Europe. The castle was supposedly built as a weeding presentto his wife. Nice gift, eh ladies :)

There's a room called the Great Hall. It's about 80 feet tall, 30 feet wide, and it must be at least 150 feet long, with an old pipe organ in it. The pipes run up the walls and there's a false ceiling near the top. There is nothing which can match being in this room when a single note is struck. Let Jordan loose in there sometime!!!

http://www.hammondcastle.com/ for those of you into castles, goth, neo-whatevah, medieval, ghosts and shiz :)

WTF this have to do prog?

    hmmmm.......processing, please wait......ok

Hammond was into remote control shiz around the turn of the century. Pretty progressive at the time!! Ok, now you probably know about all the ghost stories and general bad luck and superstition stuff around that area what with fishing ships disappearing and the crews lost for all eternity. The town of Salem ain't to far from Gloucester either :)

Well, he was testing remote control of a boat in the bay. He got a remote control boat to work and was scaring fisherman in the Bay by schwingin' the unmanned boat by them.... hehehehehehe

Pretty progressive inventor that Dr. Hammond :)

Too bad people aren't scared by that shiz anymore :( With GPS, one could have a ball chasing them around the harbor, with one of Al's 800 megawatt speakers on board blaring out "Burning My Soul".... heheheheh

    * No relation to Hammond, the organ manufacturer, although rumor had it that the poor guy was getting complaint after complaint when the first series of Hammonds were released and had all kinds of problems :)

    It has Platypus for 12.99.

Also under Magna Carta it has 2 new titles: 1. An album by Simon Phillips the description says it is a Jazz instrumentalist (drums) album. Anyone know about this? The name sounds like a Duran Duran member. Its not out yet though... 2.Tribute to the Titans-who are the Titans? The description says Mar 9 for a release date, with Members of Magellan and Shadow Gallery + others.

Also I thought Angra got signed domestically? No domestic cds available from cdnow at least.
