Released April 15, 1997 in North America
(Standing Pavement Recordings - SPR 97001).

Released September 29, 1997 in Europe
    (InsideOut/SPV - IOMCD 014).

Released December 17, 1997 in Japan
    (Teichiku Records - TECW 25642).

Tiles are Mark Evans on Drums and Percussion, Chris Herin on
Electric & Acoustic Guitars, Mandolin and keyboards, Paul Rarick
on Lead & Backing Vocals and Jeff Whittle on Bass Guitar. They are
all talented musicians. Paul Rarick is a powerful singer, Chris
Herin a splendid guitarist, Jeff Whittle a skillful bassist and
    Mark Evans a competent drummer.

Tiles are playing tight progressive hard rock / Prog Metal in the
same vein as Rush, Dream Theater, Queensryche, Leger De Main and
Yes. This is their second CD and it's technically amazing and
complex, with mood shifts and odd tempo changes. It also got a
    very good and clean production.

Here you can find fine tunes such as "Patterns" with its jazzy
intro and Yes influenced riffs, "Beneath The Surface" is a good
rock song, "Cactus Valley", "Another Hand" with its marvelous
instrumental passage, acoustic guitar based ballad "The Wading
Pool", "Gameshow", the instrumental classically inspired "Falling
Pieces" that is played on a moog synth, the symphonic "Changing
The Guard", the instrumental acoustic "Gabby's Happy Song" and the
15-minute progressive masterpiece "Checkerboards" with its many
time changes that is closing the album.

This is a record for all fans of Dream Theater and Rush, and a
milestone in progressive rock. An extra + for the great cover and
the 12 page CD booklet. I recommend you to buy this album right
    away.

actually, it is fairly well known that tori only plays, and swears by her beloved bosendorfer (the bosey). back when earthquakes was released, she was too poor to handle the six-figure price tag, so she used a yamaha instead. while it is true that she used a kurzweil k2500XS and a K2500R on the plugged '98 tour, she did not use any of the built-in piano samples (or any external ones, for that matter) and only used the kurz for the non-piano patches.

however, for all you toriphile jammerz out there, it is a somewhat less well-known fact that her tour bosey was actually MIDI'd and sometimes _it_ was triggering piano samples....

There is nothing more to be said, really. I would have liked to have seen that wanker Gers get the bootsky, but, I can't complain. I will walk to New York or LA to see this concert, if I have to.

On a semi-related note...has anyone heard if Anthrax will be touring? They were apparently supposed to be with Bruce on his now-cancelled U.S. tour.

Another semi-related note...DT has opened for Iron Maiden in the past, in New York (and possibly elsewhere, I don't remember). Hoever, DT seems to be moving away from the metal slightly, so I'm not sure how likely this would be, even if they are done with the album and in touring mode later this year.

After looking all over hell, I finally found 1 copy of Platypus at a Best Buy (not the one practically nest door to me, but one a 1/2 hour away). No Chroma Key though. It's quite unique. It has a kind of ambient mood to it that relaxed me on my way home from working out (but I was already tired). Pretty good stuff. And whoever thought that DT should tour with the new and improved Iron Maiden is a genius. That would rule, and get DT big time exposure. Especially since the reunion of IM will bring in hordes of fans. It would really be cool if they were co-headlining, although DT would probably be an opener, though. If they did co-headline, they could have a much longer set and kick everyone's ass. This would be great for spreading the music of DT. While I'm continuing to ramble, I hear that Platypus will most likely make another album. That's cool. There's some speculation as to whether Myung will be on it, but I don't think there's any problem between John and Derek. It would be uncool if Myung opted not to be in it. Also, whoever was hoping Myung would sing, I did too! That would be funny as hell, considering he's "the Silent Man." I've never heard his voice before, and I think it would be interesting for him to sing at least one song on the next platypus album if it happens. Maybe then Myung would be more open to it, and would start doing back-up vocals at DT's concerts and he'd talk more! Another thing about the Platypus CD, the quality that Velvel did was crap. The font looks like crap (European version looks better), the little things that hold the CD in place were already broken, it's an old style case (black edge thing), and the CD looks plain as hell. Some of it's not really that bad, but all in conjunction just made an impression on me. The music is good, though. Alright, I'll shut up. Death Lord

I was checking out the schecter webiste for 7 strings (I don't like the pointy-ness of the Ibanez models) and EMG pickups are available for their 7 strings, so you may want to check that out. also, they've got some pretty cool ones. My favorite looks basically like an ESP Horizon, and assuming it sounds and plays decent, I'm going to order a custom job within the year. Does anyone have any experience with Schecter guitars? I'd hate to spend multi-thousands of dollars for a guitar that isn't perfect.

    Hi!

Wow... seems like I've been lurking for quite a while... :)

    > Hey Bernd, What's the story on "Until The End?" Well, concerning the piano, Jan had some really great piano sounds but there was Roko with his BIG reverb and delay sounds and he just destroyed it... We really like more dry and direct sounds. But as it was our first production, we listened maybe a little to much to Roko who was engineering it... I think the sounds on Younique are much more direct and clear. Well, there we knew more clearly what we wanted and so we told Roko exactly what he had to do and what not... Concerning the story of Until the end... well, Jan had some problems with some girl... :)

    Greetings...

    Bye

Nah, What you heard was: The Bee Gee's have a 22 octave bandwidth. That claim can be proved using the following formula: 234 / 1342.177 MHz = 0.17434' x 12 = 2.092" This is the 1/4 wave resonant frequency of Barry Gibb's erect penis. Thinking he was quite the "Ladies Man" he had his penis bronzed in Feb. 1976. The .060" bronze coating added some much needed girth, it's been rumored that the added material increased his overall thickness by 20%. Anyway... Since then he's been considered a viable conductor.

Maurice Gibb's *Morning voice* (prior to clearing the phlegm) has been known to dive down as low as 320 Hz. :)

With one Gibb brother barking at a earth-sHaKiNg 320 Hz, and another brothers "unit" singing at 1.34 GHz, I see that as 22 octaves.

Anyone care to speculate Dream Theater's bandwidth?

P.S. Are you aware that high frequency RF can cause dain bramage?

I have mixed feelings about the Iron Maiden reunion. On the one hand, there's a chance that Maiden might be able to come up with some great new music to rival their swansongs from Powerslave, 7th Son, etc, and undoubtedly the live shows will be worth dying for . . .

BUT, does it mean an end to Bruce's solo career? His recent efforts, Accident of Birth and The Chemical Wedding, are two of the best metal albums of the decade, and far outshine anything Maiden have been involved in of late. The songwriting team of Bruce Dickinson, Adrian Smith and Roy Z is a killer combination, and I really hope we haven't seen the last of it. Having seen Bruce live with Adrian recently, it's gloriously obvious that few bands can come close to the intensity and power of this music; perhaps Maiden need to recruit Roy Z too? If you're gonna have three guitarists, you may as well get a fourth just for the hell of it. :-)

Other news: this morning, I received in the mail Superior's "Younique", and Ayreon's "Into The Electric Castle". I have managed to listen to 1.5 Superior songs so far (good first impressions), but no Ayreon yet. I am really really really looking forward to Ayreon, and anything else featuring the sublime Anneke van Giersbergen.

I just got a 40% pay rise. Hehehe.

I'm trying to figure out if the book from warner bros. has the complete scores (including solos, etc)? I have a really old hal leonard book that only has the rhythm parts, and even those aren't very good.. (is the warner bros. book the same thing?
