I was down in the Student Tech Center here at UCLA the other day,
being my usual computer nerd self and talking out of my ass when
something came up that i was unfamiliar with, and one of the guys
mentioned DVD burners. From what he said, i understand that they are
not being released for sale to the public until about 2 months from
now. Apparently, so goes the urban legend, some guy that worked at Sony
or something took apart his DVD player, tweeked it, reassembled it, and
figured out how it works. And supposedly there is some kind of chip
that you can put in another machine, possibly a CD burner, to give it
the capability to write DVDs. At any rate, Ill have acccess to one in
    about 2 months.

/me has been writing a philosophy paper for 5 hours and begins to doubt
that reality exists. nah, I couldnt think of those Rudess keyboard
    solos on my own.........

I want to apologise for my last unfair assault to Rick Audet. Obviously, I
    didn't catch the
sarcasm in his words. But, without trying to find an excuse, I didn't find
the sarcasm that obvious (as Doc POMPOUSLY implies it was), and that's
    because I've heard many people
saying that kind of crap, you know, an unexplained rejection of any kind of
music other than "theirs".Anyway, that was stupid of me and I'm sorry I
    wrote that.

    Hey guys,

I've been listening to a great deal of LTE of late but last night I watched 5YIAL, with headphones (always better). And I must say it was most excellent to hear KJLB's singing again. I'd forgotten how completely fucking awsome he is and how well the whole DT thing hangs together - it was very refreshing. I did feel a little sad during the "Derek bits", particularly the FII sessions, they seem to be having such a good laugh...ahh well....I know Jordan is gonna rock and that it is more than likely the right move for DT as a band. Quick question - where was the version of Metropolis recorded for the video (name of the festival or whatever - it's not vitally important I just wondered).

Quick thoughts on the Iron Maiden thing, it just smacks of money and gimmicks to me (can we say Met@llic@?). I can't wait for the first single "Pray for the Beast with your Boots On", oh yeah - every 10 year old spotty male who thinks he ought to be into "Metal" will go trotting down to the shops to buy that - Top of the Pops, here we come (UK reference there). I just wished that Bruce and Adrian could have stuck with their own stuff - let's face it, it was always way better than the shite Maiden have been producing of late.

    Just IMHO...

Dave (a UK jammer - now in Alabama).

About Tori live, Ilya (PhReEkY dEeK) wrote; > her tour bosey was actually MIDI'd and sometimes _it_ > was triggering piano samples....

Why??? i claim almost total ignorance when it comes to computer/musical instrument interfacing as well as performing live. i just can't understand why you'd use an incredible work of art (the bosey) to trigger sampled piano sounds. Any ideas?

    >IRON MAIDEN! ....Bruce is back! so is Adrian Smith....3 guitarists!!!!

Oh, man. OH, MAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My balls are tingling in anticipation, already. I've got mixed feelings about the reunion, too. Should they hurry up and get a record out TOMORROW. Or take some time and make sure they put out the best possible record. Oh, the wait.

Speculating about a DT/Maiden tour, though...i don't think it'll happen. i'd drive down off this mountain i call home and travel many hours to see that show, but it ain't gonna happen. Someone, please prove me wrong... But speaking of DT touring...as i live in a pretty rural area and have never gotten to see them perform, i was wondering: On there last tour or two, how close did DT stop to the area around Charlotte/Greensboro area. That seems to be the closest part of the country to where i live that anybody worth seeing stops at.

Some of it (Spacejam in particular) I would swear was Steve Vai if I didn't know better. And I'm Alright by Neil Zaza. Great Van Halenesque riffs. I was surprised how many bands put their music there, Strapping Young Lad, King's X, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Opeth. Maybe DT should get a couple songs on there... couldn't hurt. I guess I'm feeling a little silly about having it now, I figureed noone would care and maybe oneday some DT fan would honk their horn, and give me the thumbs up or something. You know, you can insult a man's family, his music collection, even his looks, but when you insult the only reason for owning a radio here in the US, well, them's fightin' words!!!

Stern rules. Not only is he funny, but he also often uses the beginning of "The Mirror" as a bumper for when they come back from commercials. One time he referred to the music as "what will be playing when the gates of Hell open" or something along those lines (hey, I can't remember my own name half the time. You expect me to remember something some guy said on the radio years ago?).

I still think either DT and/or LTE should go into the Stern studio and scare the crap out of the gang with their musical talent. No way would something like that ever happen on Imus. That coward...

the previous was more or less a bunch of sarcasm for the humor impaired. Although I still think Stern is funny. So There.

I was checking around cdnow for "Dream Theatre", since some place awhile back would have some titles for "Dream Theatre" and some for "Dream Theater", well CDNOW ($10 off at http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/redirect/leaf=from=sr-783946 through feb 23) takes Dream Theatre and converts it to Dream Theater.

I did order Platypus and Angra-Fireworks. Both of course are backordered. How can a new cd be backorded when it just came out? Unless they had like 2 copies and sold out already.

I was at magnacarta.net and they are selling a sampler cd for 4.98 or free with 3 cds. It has some songs from some of their cds, but it also has some remixes including one "the Radio Hack Mix, of Impact 3, from the Explorers Club album".

'Tribiute to the Titans" is a sampler of tribute albums and comes out on March 9.

Simon Phillips-Another Lifetime comes out Feb 23.

The ELP tribute album comes out Apr 6.

Dali's Delimma-Manifesto For Futurism comes out Apr 20

The second LTE comes out May 18. They have the title as "Liquid Tension Experiment".

Ice Age-The Great divide comes out June 1.

It also mentions James Labrie's album which it says is yet untitled.

Although I don't know what he's up to musically, Carvin Inc just released a new Steve Vai signature amplifier called the Legacy. Steve has been doing a lot of promotion for Carvin. You can see the amplifier at http://www.carvin.com . Interestingly enough, Carvin's gear was always 'affordable' but this amplifier is expensive. The combo version is a cool thousand!

OH NO! I hope that DT doesn't put anything on there because the two BLIND GUARDIAN songs I have up there now are number 1 and 2 on the metal charts. If DT came in BG just might get knocked down. I couldn't stand for that! :-)

Overall I think mp3.com is a good idea. They seem to have very fast download times and many many people that aren't necessarily into metal might download a bands song to check it out. I have gotten many positive mails (about 1-2 per day) from mp3.com people that have downloaded a BG song and now they want to buy the CD. I told this to the band and they were quite impressed (since they were apprehensive about mp3.com at first). The one this I don't like is that people can choose to burn your song onto a CD. Of course you CAN disable this (like I did for BG).

So those are just my thoughts. Adios.

    Jason

P.S. Coming soon to the BG page clips from BG covering the DIO song "Don't Talk to Strangers"! Watch for it!
