If it's a universe, that price is impossible, since they go for over $2,000

Well first of all..get all your facts straight because YES ibanez did make a
Sabre-based 7 string guitar , as i am holding it right now on my hands (more on
that later) . I went to see it..and all they said was true, the plastic adhesive
on the trus rod plate, and the back plates are still there..although brownish
looking, which imediately i fixed by removing the adhesive... oh and yeah it is
SWEET. Very light...but at the same time it sounds great...and wow ...lotsa
sustain!!

Just a clarification. 89.5 FM in NYC metro area is WSOU. It's
a college radio station based out of Seton Hall University. It's
located in South Orange NJ. The call letters were SOU because
SHU was already registered or something. It's called Seton Hall
Pirate radio because the Pirate is the school mascot.
And their basketball team sucks now...just had to throw that in

So yeah, as the subject says, two bands (one of which this list revolves around) were mentioned in the latest edition of Modern Drummer. So I was bored and figured I've got a pen and paper, so what the fuck.
Article #1 - A Review Of Once In A Livetime by Mike Haid Does Mike Portnoy really deserve all the attention that he gets? Well, the best way to judge a drummer is usually by his live performances, and Portnoy gives a very solid performance on this two-CD set of "the best of" Dream Theater material. The live setting certainly gives more "life" and intensity to some of the newer tunes. Classic Dream Theater tracks like "Take The Time" and "Pull Me Under" are also very strong here, with each member allowed the oppurtunity to display his individual virtuosity. In particular, Portnoy's solo is like a Peart-meets-Bozzio hybrid, as he incorporates lots of flashy double bass chops while utilizing the entire kit. Portnoy *does* deserve all the attention that he gets, simply for the fact that he makes drumming exciting to listen to. And like one of his great predecessors, Neil Peart, he isn't afraid to go out on a limb and insist on being more than just a time keeper. This release is a "must have" for Dream Theater and Mike Portnoy fans.
The CD received 4 stars out of 5.
Article #2 - Rick Miller from "On The Move" Hagaman, New York's Rick Miller began his drumming career at the age of twelve. Over the next several years he played along to bands like Iron Maiden, Triumph, Boston, and Whitesnake. At nineteen he joined his first band, playing mostly 1980s rock/metal cover tunes. After drumming in several bands, Rick's interest shifted towards writing original material, so with former bandmates and a few new individuals he formed Sidewinder. The group played mostly original music, influenced by such bands as Dream Theater and Queensryche. In 1994 the band recorded their first demo tape. At the same time, trademark conflicts required a change of the group's name to Aztec Jade. Following the release of a six song CD-EP recorded in 1995, the band was signed to CMG records. Their first full scale CD, Frame Of Mind, was released in 1997. Since then Rick has done additional recording projects for CMG, as well as playing on two Aztec jade singles. Rick tours various clubs in the northeast with Aztec Jade, playing a combination of powerful grooves and challenging prog-rock patterns on Pearl drums and Zildjian cymbals. His goal is to increase the visibility of the band. "Frame Of Mind has been receiving rave reviews in international publications and on the internet," says Rick. "We're known almost everywhere except the States. I want to see us on a major label, where - with the proper promotion - I feel our music could be a frontrunner in progressive rock today." (For further information, surf to www.klink.net/~aztecweb.)
So that ends the articles. The rest is purely my opinion. Article #1 was accurate I thought. Article #2. Hmmm....You know, I've heard aztec jade and seen them live (powermad 98) and well, I'd say they were good, but to have potential to be a "frontrunner in progressive rock today" they've really got to lose that guitarist. Their singer however, is something else. He looks like he's 19....frankly I have no clue how old he really is, but the guy can SING. I'd venture so far as to say that he was *the best* vocalist at powermad 1998, but you know....now that I think of it, that's not saying too much. But anyway, he rocked. And I don't think the band really does have too much potential. Comments welcome. (Doesn't the bass player read this?)
And finally, madsman spouted: "People like you should be set on fire and forced to go door to door selling candy bars." I KNEW IT!!!! You're really a Bad Religion fan aren't you! I am. And proud of it :)

Yo, I was there today, and couldn't find jack squat. Obviously now I will be going back to the site again (avoiding all my work is getting remarkably and disturbingly easy these days). Just one question (to add to the list): how is the CD listed? So I can find it easier and stuff. Is it listed by that title? B/c I was in all the "P" sections and no dough... pointers would be appreciated.

There had been a discussion about this a few days ago, and I thought I might add something that I just found out about it.
If you're using DOS to combine two or more MP3s into one big file, make sure that the MP3s are the same bitrate. For example, if you have a file that is encoded at 112 Kbps, DO NOT try to combine it with a file that is encoded at 128 Kbps... I found out the hard way. I was trying to combine two files (I didn't know the bitrate at the time), and when I got to the point where they had combined, *poof* Winamp crashed rather oddly. It started counting down the bitrate (kinda like if a file transfer stops in an FTP program or some such but it doesn't know that it's lost the connection), but wouldn't respond. I had to use the magical three-fingered salute to end the program manually.
Just thought I'd warn you. Maybe I should bring that up to the Winamp people - maybe they could fix it.

Don't be so sure! Issue 12 or 13 of Transformers: after a fall damages his circuitry, megetron falls slave to a whimpy 2-bit hustler human. Megetron is vulnerable. And last I checked, Zartan was a cunning, and very skillful, skillfull ninja. He killed the old master, he killed the blind master, he's taken on hordes of red ninjas. He can alter space to screw w/ his opponents. He's cunning. And what killed Megatron in the end? Cunning. Shockwave got him to kill himself. Zartan could definitely do the same.

For us Yankees, the TT gregor refers to is Take That, yes? I know of them because my teenage cousin from Israel used to love them. Now she loves Def Lepard, and I've been trying to wean her onto DT. In fact, just today she told me she saw one of their videos over there. the exact conversation was
her: I saw a dream theatre video 2 weeks ago, it was pretty nice. something with time? me: take the time? her: yep! that's the one, nice song, kinda long. guess they 'took the time'..LOL
She takes after me... I love to watch European and Asian MTV when I get the chance, and this is exactly why. It seems metal is making a comeback, but even so, I've NEVER seen a DT video on american. MTV.

Ummm....son, what have you been smoking?! Listen everyone's fingers are wired a different way. That is why every guitar player sounds a bit different from the rest. You could have the exact setup as Vai or Satch and you would still sound like you do now. It's all about how your fingers and the strings connect. Yes, effects do alter the sound but the core tone will ALWAYS stay the same!!!

Satch&Vai = Soul, Technical ability, and brilliant musical minds. That is why they are the BEST at what they do.
Perhaps you are not ready for this kind of music and that is fine. It may be that you will have to acquire a taste for them and that is fine also. Just think before you speak next time and think twice before posting it on the 'Jam:))

Thanks to Bogie for posting up the live LTE mp3 's. After giving these a listen all I can say is, wow. I have the first LTE cd and while it's good, it does seem to get a bit stale. Live, however, the tracks seem to acquire the type of energy they should have had on the cd. Whereas before the only song that really got me going was the fast part of Paradigm shift, now I really enjoy listening to Universal Mind and Kindred Spirits. Also, State of Grace sounds a lot cleaner, to me anyway, on this recording. After hearing these samples I would say that this is the ONLY way to hear their material. The new songs rock, especially Another Dimension, and Jordan is fucking amazing on keys throughout. I see now why DT dropped everything to snatch him up, and if his playing at these concerts and the new songs they've been writing is any sign, I think we're in for a real treat with the next DT album. Just my thoughts.

In my opinion, to sound prog, you need a keyboard player. Keyboard sounds are not really present in "Fireworks". The longest song in Fireworks reaches hardly 7 min 30 and the guitars do not sound prog too. If Holy Land can be considered as a prog album (i do not agree with that idea), Fireworks is definitely not a prog album. Angra plays, for me, a metal melodico-symphonico- lyric (i am not sure of the spelling) and should be "classified" in the traditionnal heavy "positive" metal family. sebast
