There was a video for "Take The Time"? I thought there was only "Pull Me

Cool deal... I just ordered 2 more Symphony X CDs (of course imports) for $27. Can't beat that with a stick (it says so on the labels.. no stick beating).

<<Ummm....son, what have you been smoking?! Listen everyone's fingers are wired a different way. That is why every guitar player sounds a bit different from the rest. You could have the exact setup as Vai or Satch and you would still sound like you do now. It's all about how your fingers and the strings connect. Yes, effects do alter the sound but the core tone will ALWAYS stay the same!!!>>

Ive always heard that the player's fingers have the most impact on his sound, but Ive never quite understood how. I know its a big factor, but how does it relate to the tone? do certain fingers have more midrange or bass or treble? Or is it in the tone of how a player phrases a lick or whatnot? Like, is the tonal reference in actual tone frequencies (bass, mids, treb) or in feel, phrasing, vibrato and such?

<<In my opinion, to sound prog, you need a keyboard player>>

Id like to point out that for a LONG time Fates Warning did not have a keyboardist, in fact, if Im not mistaken, APSoG was the first album with a keyboardist. Also, early Rush didnt have keys, and when they were used, it wasnt to the point where you could call Geddy Lee the "keyboardist" because they weren't used all that much.

    Hey Everyone,

You could probably skip this if you aren't a baseball fan. I'm sure those of you that would be interested in this have already played roto-ball, so an introduction wont be totally necessary.

I've set up a private league on commissioner.com (cbs sportsline's site) for this years baseball season. I'm hoping that the league will be predominantly jammers, although if we have trouble filling all ten slots -- I would be glad to open the league to others.

I know there's a bunch of folks here that either subscribe to sandbox or espn. I hope everyone understands that I'm not trying to upstage anyone. I simply feel that commissioner.com has the most to offer (live drafts, real-time stats, good servers and lots of cool amenities for the user).

D-Man and I are going to be involved with this league, so we have 8 more spots left. We're both looking to make sure that whoever gets involved, wants to really get involved and have fun. No one likes a dead beat in a roto-league. So if anyone is interested in joining the league, please email me at fmb@frontierlogic.com. I'll give you the league password and name.

    Hi there!

Aren't many of you interested in things like this? Just thought I'd let you know...

    RA2WAV v1.5 [1.4M] W9x/NT US$30

    http://filedudes.ionsys.com/win95/mencode/files/ra2wav.exe http://www.2bsys.com/products.htm

You can grab a WAV to RealAudio converter straight off of Real's website. But what if you need to get a RA file back into WAV format? It's nearly impossible... without using this tool. This version also supports batch conversion and varying sampling rates. You can use a fully functional version for 15 days; audio fanatics should register it immediately. While you're downloading RA2WAV, be sure to check out their MagicSpell utility (a killer ICQ add-on) as well as X-FileGet (for downloading streamed RealAudio files).

    take care

Bzzzt. :) S series, RG, UV, archtop, and an acoustic, let alone the prototypes they have out there...

    > Even custom ordered 7's can't be S series because of it's properties.

Bzzzt. Custom 7 strings can't be S series because Ibanez will NOT make most of its old guitars. For the same reason, you can't order the old USA Custom with the graphic of the car driving down the road, etc. You can't get a custom Universe that isn't the exact same as the new black one or the black and green one (meaning, it's not custom) unless you're endorsed AND they like you a lot (Fear Factory, JP, etc).

    > Second, used guitars are very risky to buy (I assume this is a used 7 > string since you can't get a new Ibanez 7 for under $1000).

Bzzzt. Used guitars are where you'll get your best deal. If you are able to look at the neck closely, and check for cracks, examine the body for damage and make sure the pickups work, you run no risks. Most guitars are simple big pieces of wood with a little bit of metal and some very simple circuits that you or any repairman can fix easily. The most important thing to look at is the neck. If there's no damage and it doesn't fret out anywhere, the guitar is generally a safe buy. Even with some fretting out, if you can do a truss rod adjustment and clear that up, you've still got a winner.

    > If it's a universe, that price is impossible, since they go for over > $2,000 new. I'd say you have to go over there and take a good look at > the guitar before you even start thinking about the price.

I got one of the more rare UV's (The UV7PW... the white one like on the inside of Passion and Warefare, with a pre-LOW PRO trem, and serial 000121) for $1000 cash, used, in absolute mint condition. The S series I believe are a touch MORE rare (being surpassed only by the MC swirl and the prototypes which come in a million different visual designs on the same body, with or without the monkey grip) than the standard UV7PW. They are sought after by 7 stringers, though they're considered by some to be a step below the UV (this is what I read on a collector's page a while back... and it's probably because the guy running it was a Steve Vai freak). You can get a black and green UV NEW for $1300. You can get a black and chrome UV new for $1500. Used UV's should almost NEVER go for more than $1200, even in mint, unless it has some rare properties. The black and greens are the cheapest (not in quality) because they made the most of them. Never pay more than $1000 used for one. The S series is a bit of an enigma. I would probably try to pay $1000 for it, unless I thought I could get away with paying less. I think I'd cap off around $1200, and to get me to move above the $1000 mark would take a crowbar and some WD40.

You should either buy it, or forward me his e-mail address and I'll buy it instantly. That's better than the best deal you're ever going to find for an Ibanez 7 string from that era (before they went to complete shit... which they are recovering from now) You need to go examine the guitar VERY closely. If it's in a store, chances are the guy knows what it's worth. Make sure everything works, and then play every string at every fret, and bend a note on each one, to see how level the guitar is. But in general, even a banged up 7 string that's not an RG is worth more than that.

All the info you could need about the various 7 strings that are available can be found at http://www.jemsite.com/ though there used to be a great 7 string site devoted solely to Ibanez 7 strings... I think it was run by Ken Burtch. Haven't been able to find it (it's not his personal site at Kenburtch.com). Still, go get em'!

And no, I'm not a Bad Religion fan... I just needed an appropriate punishment, and that's what came to mind, Punkass. :)

I suggest that you check out Misplaced Childhood, which is better than Script For a Jester's Tear. On SFAJT there are songs I'm not so fond of but Misplaced Childhood hasn't got any weak spots. I also have heard a couple of songs from Fugazi but I'm not sure if I like it. Sounds like a bit too 80s to me but I guess that I should give it a thorough listening before giving any recommendations. Speaking of Hogarth era Marillion, I own a single called Beautiful. Even if the songs are very different compared to the stuff they did with Fish I like it a lot. Could someone tell me that on which album/albums I can find the songs Beautiful, Live Forever, Great Escape and Hard as Love?

Phaugh! Anyone could have killed that old fart with the bow Zartan used and blind master was a fool, a fool I tells ya. He should have known Zartan had a swithblade. Idiot. Red ninjas were nothing more than cannon fodder and nobody really believes that "he can alter space to screw w/ his opponents" stuff. It's so unrealistic, things like that don't really happen. So how could Megatron get killed by somebody who doesn't even exist?! ..Methinks this conversation might be going a bit too far...

I would have to disagree with anyone who classifies Angra as metal. Listen to songs such as Lisbon, Make Believe... very soft, poetic songs. A metal band would be a band such as Pantera, Slayer, etc. Very loud, very unmelodic, and absolutely nothing that anyone could, by any stretch of the imagination, classify as ballad-like. If you don't think Angra is prog, then they must be hard rock, but not heavy metal.
