I wouldn't classify FF as thrash/death/speed or bluegrass, they are
definitely on the edge of 90's metal, which tends to defy these
old term classifications. Just like Meshuggah and Sevendust, these guys
can't be easily termed into 80's metal terms...

Again, classifying Fear Factory as a death metal band is just wrong. In
fact, Obsolete has more in common with Industrial than death metal... with
the electronic triggers, and sequenced keyboards... I would have to agree
that this album is pure HEAVY with melodics though, unlike the latest
Meshuggah which is just INSANITY... even for a avid hardcore/technical metal
listener like me, Chaosphere is just riddled with too much monotonous yet
highly polyrhythmic noise...

the last rash of MIME shyte that hit the Jam prompted me to write a couple filters. i passed them to Skadz. last i heard from him, he hadn't tried them out yet. but he's a busy man. leave him alone ;)
but if it annoys you that much, just setup your own filters. it's not rocket science. maybe computer science :) if your mailer does not use filters, change mailers. duh.
any UNIXheads that want aforementioned procmail filters can email me (i guess i could setup an auto-fetch filter...nah).

Greetings, I have been privy to a sneak preview of Braindance's new albom Redemption. Guys, this albom kicks juast as much ass as Frear itself. This is possibly my vote for most innovative band of the 90's. They'd be at least in the top three, the other two being DT and Angra. If you haven't checked out their first two alboms, do so. They are emotional and technical masterpieces of dark progmetal. They need all the support they can get, sa well, because Redemption cannot be released now due to financial difficulties. This band deserves great things. That woman is the most original phrase-constroctor on a guitar that I've ever heard. The keyboardist weaves such amazing textures and the vocalist has a rich and powerful voice with a wonderful range. The bassist is a great-sounding fretless player and the drummer, who replaced their last one, plays tublas (if that's how you spell them) on this albom. Nah... you're not the only one. I'll freely admit to being a fan, and I'm sure there are some closet Ben Folds fans kicking around here :) I don't know if I agree about Brick... it did fairly well commercially didn't it? Surely there'll be another album. And the first album had a ballad or two too.... or have I missed your point?

I think that's the key... who really cares what's popular anyway? As long as I can acquire and listen to the music I like, I don't care what get's played on the radio. I rarely listen to it anyway.

You know, after hearing some new demos with Chris on vocals, I think HE should definately sing for them (as well as drum, of course!). His voice really fits the description of what they're looking for in a vocalist; at least to me. (Chris if you're reading this, I hope your're not embarassed by my saying so). Whatever they decide to do, I can't wait for their next album. These guys are great.

There are two songs that I'm into that the local high school station (yes, believe it or not, they have an FM station) plays continuously, but the NEVER say who they are after the song finishes.
Song #1.
Hard, driving, and electronic. The drums are kind of a shuffle-type beat, and the singer sounds like a younger Billy Squire.
The verses use that compressed sound effect like the singer is singing through a telephone. The choruses go something like:
'Never a knockdown, Never a knockout, Come on, take it all the way... Never a knock, knock, knock, knock, knock, knock, Take it all the way...'
Kinda dumb, but a good song.
Song #2 (and the stronger of the two):
I sang some of the lyrics all the way to work, and I still can't remember them. The singer sounds like an older guy, like a deeper Greg Allman. He sings it like a soulful, straightahead blues song, but the band under him - WOW.
The drummer sounds like Portnoy/Zonder, and the rest of the band is doing some overtly progressive-sounding stuff as well. Strange combination of blues and prog - almost like the Allman Brothers meets King's X.
Any takers on either?

Check out their first -- self-titled -- album, good rock tunes, with a small bit of punk overtones here-and-there. Their latest -- Devil in the Details -- is fantastic, start to end. Listen to 'em some more, you might change your opinion.
